Author Ambush with Stephanie Tyler

Book Monster Reviews and Literal Addiction are super happy to welcome Stephanie Tyler back to our sites today!

Stephanie is a bestselling writer of over 20 amazing titles. We say “writer” and not author because that is what she calls herself. Some may think that’s strange, but we get it. It’s the part she loves, it’s what she does, and therefore makes her what she is. She says she was born a writer, that she always knew it’s what she wanted to do, and took every step necessary to make it happen. She double majored in English Lit and Creative Writing, went back to get her Masters in English Lit and Secondary English Education, and even went so far as to get ½ of her PhD. She worked as a manager in a book store while going to school, and ended up teaching both at the middle school and college level afterward until family took precedence. Once that happened, she was able to really start writing, no longer having to split her creative focus between her students and herself, and she hasn’t stopped since.

It took Stephanie four years and 10 manuscripts before she got her first sales call, but after that, things happened fast and furiously. Within the span of a year, she was offered contracts for 11 books and just three years later hit the New York Times Best Seller list with “Hold on Tight”.

Stephanie is the creator of the
SEAL,  SHADOW FORCE and ETERNAL WOLF CLAN series, as well as the HOLD trilogy.

She is also ½ of the literary duo that make up Sydney Croft, the author of the ACRO series (the other ½ of which being Larissa Ione).

We’re here today to help Stephanie promote and celebrate “Lonely is the Night”, but please check out her website for additional information, synopses, and reviews for all of the books and series mentioned above and more: http://www.stephanietyler.com/index.php.

For those of you not yet familiar with Stephanie’s SHADOW FORCE series, we wanted to give you the synopses and some quick buy links to get you all caught up and peak your interests a bit…

Teddie Lassiter knows this lean, mean rescuer just saved her life, but the steel glint behind those soft gray eyes seem to be hiding something deep. The men after Teddie are deadly, but the man who holds her life in his hands and tempts her with his wicked touch is even more dangerous. He could make her dream about living and loving again. If you are not already a SHADOW FORCE fan, make sure that you add them to your TBR Lists ASAP and settle in as soon as you can.  For now though, let’s see what Stephanie had to say when we let her take over our sites to celebrate the upcoming release of “Lonely is the Night”…

The Shadow Force Series by Stephanie Tyler

The Shadow Force series was always meant to be four books.  I plan my series ahead, because I like knowing how many books I’m doing before I start writing.  Could I find more characters along the way?  Sure, but some of my favorite series to read have a set end, and I think that an ending point is important.  There are so many series out there that go beyond the point of no return – I like being in control of a ship I know how and where to lead.

That being said, sometimes characters don’t do what they’re supposed to.  Case in point, Reid and Grier.  They were NOT supposed to end on a cliffhanger.  They were supposed to find love.  Night Moves, the book before this one, was such a buddy book, with Reid and Kell being best friends from childhood, that I couldn’t write about one without the other.  They were both supposed to find their Happily Ever After at the end of Night Moves.

Except Reid and Grier weren’t going down that easily, and their ending was a bit shocking.  Needless to say, they needed more time.  Lonely is the Night (a Penguin eSpecial Novella) gave them their time together, and man, did they go through the wringer.  Again.  And, I think, came out stronger for it.

If you haven’t read Night Moves, you can still read Lonely as a stand-alone – on my site, there’s a character list to help you along, but the main focus of this one is Reid and Grier.  That being said, for peak reading experience, go ahead, read them all J

You can learn more about the series here:

Oh, and you’ll also meet a character who’s an integral part of Section 8, which is my new romantic suspense series that starts next month – Surrender comes out April 2nd.  You can find out more about it here:  http://stephanietyler.com/next.php#surrender

You can learn more about the series here:

I’ve got a link to the Chapter One excerpt below and I’ve given you a sneak peek into Chapter two below as well.

I’m giving away two eCopies  (Kindle or Nook) of Lonely is the Night (gifted to you on release day – March 5th) talk to me about series.  Do you like knowing they’ll have a set number of books or do you like them to sprawl?

***

You can read Chapter One of LONELY IS THE NIGHT (A Shadow Force Novella) here:

And here’s an excerpt from Chapter Two of LONELY IS THE NIGHT (A Shadow Force Novella)

Grier’s number. On his phone. For the first time in a goddamned year.

She hadn’t shown at Mace’s wedding, even after Kell had invited her behind Reid’s back. Reid could
understand why, probably better than any of the others. Grier didn’t mind being vulnerable, telling him about her past, her reasons for becoming a marshal, but she couldn’t shake off her sense of right and wrong. She was black and white, with no gray . . . and he definitely lived the majority of his life there.

She knew she’d wounded him by pretending to die. Good reason, of course, but he could’ve been let in on the plan. Should have been.

Dammit. Grier might not mind the vulnerable shit but Reid sure as hell did.

Now he sat with the phone next to him, Grier’s message unplayed.  But a year and six days . . . why now, Grier?

He stared down at the screen stupidly, ready to press the voice mail button.

He took a deep breath and hit redial instead. When a man answered, he clutched the phone so hard
he was sure he’d broken it. “Reid, is that you?”

“Jack?”

“Didn’t you listen to my message?”

“Obviously not.”

“Shit. Sorry, man . . . I didn’t think—grabbed her phone and figured you’d know it was important.”

Jack was Grier’s partner.

“Figured this was faster. Fill me in.” And fuck, this wasn’t good.

“She’s gone. It hasn’t hit the papers yet, but it will within the next few hours and then all hell’s going to break loose. I need your help.”

Reid shoved a hand in his pocket, the other kept the phone to his ear. He was convalescing at Mace’s bar—Doc’s orders after an unfortunate incident on his last job with Dylan.

Thankfully, the human traffickers had been hurt far worse than either he or Dylan had been. The girls they’d rescued were now recovering with their respective parents.

He and Jack had kept in touch over the year. Rather, Jack kept in touch with him. Reid wasn’t sure if Grier put him up to it or if he did it on his own. He’d also given Reid a few tips on some recent cases and leads to others that the law couldn’t get involved with. Even Dylan had to grudgingly admit that the guy was good.
“Is this another near death experience?”

“No, man, I’d know. She and I were charged with a witness. A few months of babysitting. She was getting him settled and now they’re both gone. The room’s trashed and there’s blood on the carpet near her phone. This is some bad shit, Reid. The FBI and the marshals are on it, but . . .”

Yeah, he got it. They could get places those agencies couldn’t. “How long?”

“I’m assuming five hours, give or take. I wouldn’t have known if I hadn’t gotten to the motel where she was staying earlier than expected.”

“Where are you now?”

“Heading back to my apartment. You gotta meet me.”

“I’ll be there tonight,” he promised. Time was critical. He packed—flying commercial with weapons wouldn’t work, so he planned to buy some in Texas. Dylan wouldn’t let him out if he didn’t leave before anyone noticed him. He heaved the bag over his shoulder, ignoring the sharp pain in his ribs and punched in flight times on his phone. He’d beg or bribe his way onto the next flight out.

“Where are you going?”

Teddie. He turned around slowly, found her leaning against his doorjamb with her arms crossed. Obviously, she was his babysitter today. As if he needed one. Most of the time. “Ah, just taking a ride downtown?” he offered.

“Try again.”

Geez, the women were worse than the men in this group. He had no choice but to come clean. “It’s Grier.”

“She called?”

“Not exactly.” When he finished telling her, Teddie was handing him cash, telling him she’d give him as much lead time as possible.

“Bring her back, Reid.”

“I will.”

“You love her, you know.” He opened his mouth to say that you couldn’t fall in love that easily, but he’d had half of a living, breathing example in front of him.

I personally am not sure which way I like it. I've read a few series with ends and when the end comes, sometimes it's not satisfying. It's like "that's it, what a freakin' disappointment!" then you feel like you wasted your time because you know there will be no more. Then sometimes when I start a series and know there's say only 6 in the series, I'm more likely to go through the whole series because I know it's not a huge time investment. Man I'm totally blabbering. So I guess my answer is, I don't know, LOL!!!!

Wow! So many books to add to my TBR list ! Thank you for introducing us to Stephanie Tyler.

I like it when they tell us in advance how much books are going to be in a series.

Thank you for the giveaway! :)

Love your books Stephanie, collect them all and they're in my re-read pile. I think I prefer at set number of books in a series but that being said some of those series that really work with along number of books are J.R. Ward's BDB books, there's 11 or 12 of those and they just keep getting better. Also Suzanne. Brockmann's SEAL team books, again having all those characters made the books better. So, yeah, it depends I guess

I do like knowing there is a set ending. It helps me pace myself and helps me determine what I read and when. It especially helps when a book ends in a cliffhanger.

I like knowing that the series is going to continue. Seeing characters pop up throughout is always good for me. Thank you.

I like the sprawl. If I know how many and I am at the last one then I will be sad. :'(

Thanks for the fabulous giveaway.

I can go with either although a series that has no end in sight kinda just wanders. I can think of a few that I think have run it's creative course and the authors should just give them an explosive end as they are about to loose me...I tend to read a series from start to finish with one book after the other. I will do that with your last series now that it's finished up. I like to immerse myself in the author's world and catch all the detail :-)

I like a set number of books for a series!

Amber Lovvorn said...

I like both. It totally depends on the story arc.

Thank you for the giveaway!

I like when there are a set number of books in a series. This way we know that the author has a set time to accomplish everything they want and this way the reader knows that the series will not go on indefinitely and will conclude with a hopefully happy ending.
Thanks for the giveaway.

Really its both. I like knowing how long the story arc is going to cover. But I also like them to continue as long as the story stays good.
