Bayou Heat Series

New Year. New World. New Species.

LEGEND OF THE PANTERA

Hidden in the depths of the Louisiana bayous, the Pantera, have become little more than a legend to most humans. It’s rumored that in the ancient past twin sisters, born of magic, had created a sacred land and claimed it as their own. From that land was born creatures who were neither human or animal, but a mixture of the two. Faster and stronger than humans, they have hyper acute senses, and when surrounded by the magic of the Wildlands they’re capable of shifting into pumas. It was also whispered that they possess other gifts. Telepathy, witchcraft, immortality, and the ability to produce a musk that could enthrall mere mortals. Mothers warned young girls never to roam alone near the swamps, convinced that they would be snatched by the Pantera, while young men were trained to avoid hunting anywhere near the protected Wildlands. Not that the warnings were always successful. What girl didn’t dream of being seduced by a gorgeous, mysterious stranger? And what young man didn’t want to try his skill against the most lethal predators?
As the years passed, however, the sightings of the Pantera became so rare that the rumors faded to myths. Most believed the entire species had become extinct. Sadly they weren’t entirely mistaken...

Raphael & Parish
Book #1 and #2 in the Bayou Heat Series
Available Now:
ONLY $0.99

The brilliant and dangerous diplomat of the Pantera shapeshifters, Raphael has devoted his life to discovering the key to the infertility that is threatening the extinction of his puma race. Creating a vast network of spies worldwide, he never expected to discover that the answer might be beneath his very nose. But when Ashe, a beautiful human female, crosses his path, his most primitive instincts are stirred.

Unable to resist, he takes her to his bed, and is shocked when she becomes pregnant with his child. It’s a miracle that might prove to be the salvation of his people, but only if he can keep her safe from the mercenaries determined to kill her.

Untamed and undeniably sexy, Parish, leader of the Pantera hunters, rarely leaves the magic of the Wildlands to deal with the humans he despises. But with the prized and risky Pantera birth on the way, puma shifter, Parish must travel to New Orleans to find and bring back a human doctor. The moment he sees the lovely, talented and all too human Dr. Julia Cabot he cannot resist the wild, potent drive to make her his. Betrayed and destroyed by love, Julia will not let her heart choose her path again. But as she and Parish fight to save the life of an unborn child, a fierce and overwhelming bond develops between them, threatening her frozen heart with the secret hope and ultimate temptation of love and family.

FIFTY YEARS AGO...THE LOUISANA BAYOUS

The two Pantera males glided through the shadows of the bayou with lethal silence.   One as golden as the sunlight and the other as gray as a stormy bayou sky.  At a glance it would be easy to assume they were complete opposites.

It would be a mistake.

They might have different looks, and even different temperaments, but they were both lethal predators.

With a shimmer of silvery light the two cats abruptly shifted to reveal two tall, powerful men.  One golden-haired, and the other with hair as glossy as black satin.  Both still lethal with eyes that glowed with the golden power of their inner cats.

Glancing around the tangled foliage that hid the spongy ground and the tall cypress trees that surrounded them, Raphael gave a lift of his brows.  He spent enough time away from the Wildlands to appreciate at least a modicum of civilization.  Certainly his cat loved to hunt through the untamed swamps, but his preference on a damp night was a warm room, a fine bottle of Chateau Lafleur, and a beautiful woman in his bed.  Not standing in muck that reached his knees with the unpredictable Parish as his companion.

Parish was one of the Hunters, a protector of the Wildlands, and far more pleased than Raphael to be wading through the wetlands.  Crazy bastard.

“Did you bring me here to admire the mud?” Raphael muttered.  “Not that it isn’t very fine mud,  mon ami, but I have better things to do with my night. “

A growl rumbled in Parish’s throat as he pointed a finger toward the canal choked with floating water-lilies.

“Look.”

Raphael swallowed a sigh.  He was beginning to wonder if Parish had been eating the funky mushrooms that grew in the caves.  They could make even a Pantera see things that weren’t there.

“I’m looking.”

“Closer,” Parish snarled, crouching down to shove aside a clump of milkweed to reveal the quagmire of brown sludge that consumed a frightening amount of land.  Christ, everything around the creepy bog was dead, as if the brown slurry was some sort of toxic filth.

Raphael hissed, wrinkling his nose at the sour stench that choked the air.

“Mon dieu,” he grated.  “What is that?”

“Our borders are rotting,” Parish said, his flat tone unable to disguise the murderous fury burning in his golden eyes.  He took the assault on their homeland as a personal insult.  “With every passing year the Wildlands deteriorated.”

A knot of fear lodged in the pit of Raphael’s gut.  “Have you informed the Elders?”

Parish made a sound of impatience.  “Of course.”

“And?”

“And they’re depending on us to figure it out.”

“Us?”  Raphael’s brows snapped together.  He was a politician.  One of the Pantera’s finest diplomats.  “Do you have a mouse in your pocket?”

Parish narrowed his gaze.  “No, but I have my Kukri blade, so don’t piss me off.”

Raphael parted his lips to continue the argument, only to give a sharp shake of his head.  This problem was too big for just the Hunters, or even the Elders, to solve.

It was going to take all the Pantera working together to stop the deterioration of the Wildlands and to make sure their kind survived.  “There’s something wrong.  I feel it in my bones.”

“Yes.”  Parish gave a slow nod, his gaze trained on the creeping sludge.  “ Something wicked this way comes...”
