Author Ambush with Donna Grant!

Happy Weekend Book Monsters and Literal Addicts!
Book Monster Reviews and LITERAL ADDICTION are very excited to welcome the super sweet and fantabulous Donna Grant back to our sites today.

Donna Grant is the award winning author of more than twenty novels spanning multiple genres of romance – Scottish Medieval, historical, dark fantasy, time travel, erotic, and paranormal.

Donna was born and raised in Texas but loves to travel. Her adventures have taken her throughout the United States as well as to Jamaica, Mexico, and Scotland. Growing up on the Texas/Louisiana border, Donna’s Cajun side of the family taught her the “spicy” side of life while her Texas roots gave her two-steppin’ and bareback riding.

Her childhood dream was to become a professional ballet dancer and study under the amazing Mikhail Baryshnikov. Though she never got to meet Baryshnikov, she did make it to New York City and performed in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Later, Donna’s love of the romance genre and the constant stories running through her head prompted her to sit down and write her first book. Once that book was completed, there was no turning back.

Despite the deadlines and her voracious reading, Donna still manages to keep up with her two young children, three cats, and one long haired Chihuahua. She’s blessed with a proud, supportive husband who’s learned to cook far more than frozen chicken nuggets.

Donna sold her first book in November 2005 while displaced from Hurricane Rita, a storm that destroyed portions of the Texas Gulf Coast. Since then, Donna has sold novels and novellas to both electronic and print publishers. Her books include several complete series such as THE DRUIDS GLENTHE SHIELDSTHE ROYAL CHRONICLES, the SISTERS OF MAGIC, DARK KINGS, DARK SWORD and the spin-off to DARK SWORD series: DARK WARRIORS.  For a complete look at Donna's backlist of incredible books click HERE

They sound fabulous, right!?  Make sure you add them all to your TBR and get them ordered and/or pre-ordered your favorite bookseller.  For now though, let's see what Donna had to say when she took over the site for the day…..

I love writing books in a series.  I always have.  Even before it became the “thing” to do.  There’s something appealing about seeing past characters I feel in love with show up in other books.  I love getting to see more about their lives past the HEA and how they interact with the new characters.

A lot of readers ask why I began my Dark Sword series set in Medieval Scotland.  The simple answer is because I love medieval Scotland.  The swords, the Highlanders, the untamed land.  All of which are still around today, but for me, there’s something very sexy about a man who will defend those he loves face to face with another man and only a sword between them. J

The long answer is that there were all these amazing series that I gobbled up as quickly as the authors/publishers put them out.  Yet most were set in modern times.  I wanted and need that historical aspect.

Imagine my surprise when my editor and I were chatting back in early 2011 and she threw out the idea of me moving my Warriors to modern day Scotland.  I was so taken aback that for a minute I didn’t say anything.  Then, ideas began to swirl fast and furiously.  Two hours later I agreed to continue the Dark Sword series as the Dark Warriors series.

It was a major leap for me, because while I had dipped my toe in writing time travels (heroine goes back to medieval times) and a novella set in contemporary England, the thought of a full length book – multiple full length books – now in a contemporary setting scared the hell out of me.

Which is why I did it.  I like to push myself as a writer.  Many readers were upset when I left the historical setting for modern day.  Many more had no idea why there were no more Dark Sword books.  After the first two Dark Warriors books (MIDNIGHT’S MASTER & MIDNIGHT’S LOVER) released back to back earlier this year, I still get emails asking if I’m going to continue the Dark Sword books.

To confuse readers even more, I’ve fallen in love with this new setting so completely that my publisher asked me to set up a spin-off series with three novellas.  Since I’d been waiting for a chance to write dragons, the Dark Kings were born and will be heavily connected to the DS/DW series.

With the next set of back-to-back Dark Warriors books set to release, I’m excited to tell you about MIDNIGHT’S SEDUCTION.

This is Camdyn’s book.  Camdyn first shows up in FORBIDDEN HIGHLANDER, and I knew even then that he was going to be interesting to write.  He didn’t disappoint.  I had no idea what kind of backstory he’d have, but when his heroine, Saffron, popped onto the scene, both were screaming for me to get to their story.

Writing their story was a labor of love.  Each day they drained me emotionally and mentally, but the next morning I couldn’t wait to get back to them and see where they took me next.  They constantly surprised me, which makes writing so much fun.

Without further ado, let me introduce you to Camdyn and Saffron…

Seduced by Passion

Captivating and enticing, Saffron Fletcher is a rarity in the Druid world – a Seer.  She is the ultimate prize in an epic battle.  After suffering horrendously at the hands of evil, her thirst for justice is all that keeps her going.  Can she put her trust in the sinfully gorgeous, wonderfully dangerous Warrior who haunts her dreams and promise retribution for the common enemy?

Enslaved by Desire

Camdyn MacKenna is hungry for revenge…until he falls prey to Saffron’s seductive magic.  She enchants him like no other.  But if Camdyn yields to her allure, will he be strong enough to defeat their sworn enemy – and resist the rising forces of evil that could destroy their love forever?

I'll read a good romance anywhere. I really love to listen to the audiobooks when the narrator is good. Of course, that can sometimes get a bit awkward too - like when there's a 'good part' and I'm driving the kids somewhere.

I'm reading your question differently than everyone else has, so my answer is very different. The setting I most like to read about is historical Scotland.

I love all kinds of settings. I think it really depends on the story being told. The great thing about reading so many books is they take me to many different places/worlds that I would otherwise never see!
