Dr. Melanie Lipton is no stranger to the supernatural. She knows
immortals better than they know themselves, right down to their stubborn little
genes. So although a handsome rogue immortal seems suspicious to her
colleagues, Sebastien Newcombe intrigues Melanie. His history is checkered,
his scars are impressive, and his ideas are daring. But it's not his
ideas that have Melanie fighting off surges of desire . . .
Bastien is used to being the bad guy. In fact, he can't remember the last time he had an ally he could trust. But Melanie is different - and under her calm, professional exterior he senses a passion beyond anything in his centuries of experience. Giving in to temptation is out of the question - he can't put her in danger. But she isn't asking him . . .

Thank
you for joining me on the first stop of my Phantom Shadows Blog Tour! I’m very excited to be here today! PHANTOM SHADOWS, the third book in my
Immortal Guardians paranormal romance series, will be released tomorrow, so I
thought I would celebrate by sharing a little bit about my immortals with you.
The
Immortal Guardians in my series all boast special gifts and abilities, which
really come in handy and often give them an edge when they’re hunting and
battling psychotic vampires. Vampires,
you see, aren’t the good guys in my series.
They’re humans who have been infected with a very rare symbiotic virus
that dramatically increases their speed, strength, and regenerative
capabilities and produces an unfortunate need for blood. They also swiftly suffer brain damage as a
result that drives them mad and compels them to prey upon humans, viciously
torturing and killing them. Immortals,
on the other hand, are gifted ones, men and women born with advanced
DNA, who have been infected with the same virus. Their advanced DNA protects them from the
more corrosive aspects of the virus (namely the madness) and bestows upon them
their special abilities. The older the
immortal, the stronger and more varied his or her gifts.
Those
gifts can be a bit disconcerting to those around them who don’t possess
them. Some immortals can read
minds. How awkward would that be, your
every thought passing straight from your mind into that of the powerful warrior
sitting beside you? Some can see your
future, a good thing if the future is bright.
Not so good otherwise. Some can
see your past, including all of the little embarrassing moments you’d like to
forget. Some can heal. Some can shapeshift. Some can teleport, which often is quite
startling, since you can’t hear them coming.
And some, like Bastien – the hero of PHANTOM SHADOWS – can feel your
emotions with a touch.
This
causes some awkward moments for Dr. Melanie Lipton, whose heart races every
time Bastien draws near. While almost
every other human, gifted one, immortal, and vampire on the planet would
like nothing more than to see Bastien dead, Melanie raises eyebrows by
championing him. She is fiercely
attracted to him, both physically and emotionally, despite his dangerous
reputation. Having worked closely – in
her search for a cure – with the only surviving members of the vampire army he
once pitted against the Immortal Guardians (Did I mention he has a rather dark
past?), she knows more about him than most do and has fallen hard, something
you can’t really hide from someone who can feel your every emotion.
Excerpt
She stared at him in
silence for so long he began to feel a bit self-conscious. “You can feel other people's emotions?” she
asked finally.
“Yes. And Stuart's told me he was lying to try to
save his ass.”
Again she stared at
him.
“What?” he asked
when the silence stretched.
“You can feel my
emotions? Right now?”
“No. I have to touch you to feel them.”
“So . . .”
He could see her
considering it, trying to remember every time he had touched her or she had
touched him. At the network. In her car.
At David's. Trying to remember
what she might have inadvertently revealed.
“You might have
mentioned it. Given me a little
warning.”
“Such didn't occur
to me.”
More silence.
“What do you feel
when you touch me?” she asked.
Bastien's attention
dropped to her full lips as she licked them anxiously. “Sometimes I feel your concern. Sometimes uncertainty. Clinical detachment. Fear the first time we met.”
“Well, our first
meeting was rather . . . explosive.”
That was putting it
mildly.
“What else?”
He knew what she
sought. “Sometimes my gift tells me you
feel what I feel myself every time I look at you. Or think of you. Or touch you.”
Her soft, smooth
neck moved with a swallow. “You're
attracted to me.”
“Yes.”
“I'm attracted to
you.”
“I know.”
“What are we going
to do about it?”

It would be the ability to read minds or to see the future. I think that that would freak me out. You never have a private thought. The ability to see the future would be hard on anyone. Thanks for the giveaway!
luranker@hotmail.com
I would not want anyone to be able to read my mind.
Mind reading or even empathy it should be hard on anyone because with so many people he/she would feel confused and attacked all the time so i wouldn't wish that on anyone

I would have to say the ability to read minds.
I think it's a toss up between mindreading and being invisible.
Pyrokinesis - wouldn't want to get on their bad side.
Thanks for the giveaway.

mindreading
Dream walking! I want to keep my dreams to myself!
Being able to read my mind. Thought are private and I wouldn't want anybody to know them.
e.balinski(at)att(dot)net
I really wouldn't like someone to be able to listen to my thoughts
The first thing that jumps to mind is telepathy but then I think I would like that as I could ask them to give me some insight into my sons mind, he has Autism and I'm awfully curious about his thought processes.

I'm with the majority here, mind reading would be difficult to deal with. This sounds like a delightful series.
It would be mind reading for me too.

reading minds, def. adamsgirl4602@yahoo.com
Unfortunately, I have to agree with just about everyone else, mind reading would feel like a personal violation! Thanks for the awesome giveaway! I love the series!
I also think mind reading would be very unnerving, it would be really stressful to try to guard my thoughts.
Mind reading is the one...I don't want anyone to know what I'm thinking...good or bad..
thanks for the contest!!
dragonflychic@tampabay.rr.com
I'd say reading minds.
I am pretty vocal about what I am thinking so mind reading wouldn't bother me so much. Emotions are very personal for me though so an empath would be hard for me to deal with.

I would hate for them to have x-ray vision:)
Id have to say mindreading. I often keep a lot to myself and would not want to hurt someones feelings.
Mind reading. WOuld be creepy.
I would not want them to be able to have the power of empathy. I have some very passionate feelings sometimes and would not want to share them with another for the life of me. sdylion(at)gmail(dot)com
Dream walking!
Lisa, Laura D., miki, Rose, Joanne, Katie Woodman, Kristall, Glittergirl, Victoria, adamsgirl4602, Barb P, Barbara E., Wendy Higgins, bn100, CRansom, donnas : Mind reading is the top response so far. :-) I wouldn’t want anyone to be able to read my mind at will either. I’m working on the fourth book in the series now and it features a hero who is telepathic, so the heroine is rapidly having to grow accustomed to his hearing her thoughts. :-)
Rebe: I didn’t think of being invisible. I definitely would NOT want to be around someone who could do that. Yikes!
Lauren B: LOL! True!
burbanette and Filia Oktarina: Dream walking WOULD be disturbing, for both the dreamer and sometimes the one doing the dream walking. There are two telepaths in my series who lose their ability to shut out others’ thoughts when they sleep and sometimes find themselves in others’ dreams, landing themselves in uncomfortable situations.
Michelle: That’s true. Telepathy would actually be a real plus then.
Kassandra and SdyLion: I wouldn’t want someone to be able to read my emotions either. Too personal.
*yadkny*: LOL! Me, too!
If they could read minds, I would be uncomfortable.
I'd like to be able to mind read if it could be turned on and off easily but I would not like anyone else to read my mind :)
I would have to say i would not want them possessing the ability to duplicate themselves, you wouldnt know if you had the real one or the fake one :)
Marlene Breakfield and Grace Lavender: Mind reading is by far the most popular response. :-)
xander_316: I hadn't thought of this one. Good choice. That WOULD be disturbing.
I would have to agree with others on the mind reading thing. It would just be too weird an uncomfortable.
Like many posters, the ability to read minds. DANG! I would be in a world of trouble. LOL
Thanks,

For a friend, it would be xray sight, i don´t want them to see through my clothes, =/ for not so close friends i´d say mindreading, because i´m always saying to much in my mind, and not nice things, either. =) Don´t always mean it, but it feels better letting of steam that way.
Love the giveaway and looking forward to the release!

mmmm....Mind reading... Never good: not even on a friend.
I'm going with mind reading, I would have not a friend in the world if they could read my mind. Thx for the giveaway. Great question.
