Author Ambush & Giveaway with Lisa Kessler

Hello everyone!

Book Monster Reviews and

LITERAL ADDICTION are very happy to welcome

Lisa Kessler back to our sites today!

Lisa has always loved to make up stories.  Her first published work was “The Wonders of Unicorn Creek” in 6thGrade.  The 9 page epic was published by her tiny elementary school. :)

Since then she’s published short stories in anthologies like: “Dead Souls”, “Ladies of Horror 2009”, “Hell Hath No Fury”, and magazines like:  Sinisteria, Horrorfind, Twilight Times, The Writers Hood, Savage Night, The Murder Hole, Behold, and Shadowkeepzine.
Her story, “Immortal Beloved” was a finalist for a Bram Stoker award, and her story “The Third King” won 2ndplace in Behold’s short story contest.

She has since signed on with Entangled Publishing to release her entire NIGHT series, the first book of which was just released in August, and the second book which will be coming soon.
She also released an eBook short story, “Across The Veil”. You can find that HERE.

When Lisa’s not writing she sings.  She’s a professional vocalist with the Sand Diego Opera as well as other musical theater companies.  In 2009 she released her first Christmas CD, The Magic of Christmas.  Her version of Christmas Vacation was one of the most added songs on Adult Contemporary radio for the holiday season.

She’s married to another writer, and they live with their two teens in sunny San Diego, California.

For those of you not yet familiar with Lisa’s work, we thought we’d give you the synopsis of “Night Walker” and "Across the Veil":

“Night Walker”

The NIGHT series Book #1:

He gave up his soul for a second chance to love her...

Two and a half centuries ago, Calisto Terana lost everything when a zealous priest murdered the woman he loved. Now, desperate for another chance to love her, he wants redemption for the mistake that cost her life.
She's haunted by dreams of her own death...

After catching her fiance with another woman, Kate Bradley returns to San Diego to clear her head. The last thing she needs is romance, but after meeting Calisto she's drawn to him in ways she doesn't understand.
They've waited in the shadows for centuries...

Calisto has no doubt Kate is the reincarnation of his lost love, but the Fraternidad Del Fuego Santo has a new watcher with dark ambitions of his own. As old enemies reemerge and a new threat arises, the betrayal that enslaved Calisto to the night might destroy the
only woman he's ever loved again.

“Across the Veil"

Princess Talia from Summerland has been hiding across the veil in the human world for the past five years.

Starring in a hit television show as human actress, Natalie Thurmont, her charmed new life is shattered when the past comes knocking on her door.

"Across the Veil" won Romance in the Backseat book review's Paranormal Fight Club short story contest.

"Night Demon"

The NIGHT series Book #1:

COMING in 2013

They sound incredible right!?  And did you see those covers??  Anyway, let’s get to the post and find out what Lisa had to say when we let her take over the site for the day...

LIVE CHAT:  Don't forget, Lisa will be available to chat Live with members, followers, fans and guests in our Author Chatroom from 8-9pm EST (7-8pm CDT/6-7pm MDT/5-6pm PDT) on Thursday.

Night Series Take Over – Muahahahaha!

Hi everyone –

Thanks to Carla and Chelle for letting me and my Night Walkers take over their blogs today! J

If we haven’t met before, I’m Lisa Kessler. I got my start publishing horror short stories, so my paranormal romances tend to be on the darker side. I enjoy villains who push the hero to the point that you’re not sure if our hero will win.

My Night Series features Night Walkers which are similar to vampires, but they’re descended from the Maya not from Vlad in Europe.  Night Walkers are immortal and drink blood to live, but they’re not “undead” like a vampire. The moment the sun sets in the sky, their hearts beat and they breathe.

Night Walkers also have a spirit animal that they can shift into at will. Each immortal has a different animal spirit, but they’re all nocturnal predators.

In book 1, Night Walker, we meet Calisto. He’s been a Night Walker for nearly 300 years.  Here’s the blurb:
As old enemies reemerge and a new threat arises, the betrayal that enslaved Calisto to the night might destroy the only woman he's ever loved again.

This month Night Thief, a prequel to Night Walker, bursts onto the scene. This is an eBook only novella and it’s so top secret at the moment that I can’t even reveal the cover! LOL

I can tell you that Night Thief takes place in Paris in 1840. You’ll be introduced to Kane one of the four original Night Walker brothers. He’s thousands of years old, but the night a mortal woman steals his gold pocket watch, his eternity will never be the same.

For those who attend the chat at 9pm eastern tonight at Literal Addiction, I promise to reveal a little more… Muahahahaha! J  LIVE CHAT LINK - http://www.literaladdiction.com/author-chat.php#/general/

The next full novel, Night Demon, will be out in the spring of 2013 and it picks up right where Night Walker left off. ..

So tell me… Do you like twists on traditional vampire mythos, or are you Bram Stoker purist?

One commenter on each blog will win a copy of the new Night Thief novella! J

Thanks for coming by and I hope to see lots of you in the chat tonight!  WOOT!

Lisa

Great to hear you're game for new twists to vampire mythos! :)

And Sharon, I do like an occasional traditional vampire too! Nothing wrong with a little Vlad in your life, right?

Thanks for commenting!

I love twists on the traditional vampire mythos! Without it all books would become the same no matter who wrote it. To me, learning the "new world" for whatever book you are reading is half of the excitement. =)

I love to read books with creative twists on the classic creatures of the night. As long as there is something there that i can hang my hat on so to speak like they have fangs and do drink blood then it's all good. :) Thanks for the great giveaway and fabulous post!

I think vampire stories need to have different twists otherwise there would be no point writing any more as they would all be the same.

I love the twists-well sometimes, I don't necessarily agree with the whole "Sparkly" vampire twist-but most I enjoy because other wise vamp stories would get boring.

Bram Stoker's Count Dracula wasn't particularly sexy (very good book, but not something I read aloud to my man). So I definitely like twisted vampires.
