Take it Like a Vamp

Vampire Nick Christos might have been born in the Middle Ages, but those days seem tame compared to the last eight years spent ruling the Supernatural Council. The only respite in his long days of governing is with his sweet neighbor Casey Meyers. Sure, he's forced to take a cold shower after every encounter, but no way will he risk anything more with a human. Not with his blood thirsty ex on the prowl and out to ruin Nick’s life.

But when said crazy ex shows up at the ball and flies her freak flag high, Nick has more to worry about than keeping his hands off his neighbor. He'll have to stay closer than ever if he hopes to keep her alive, but will she want to leave him forever when she learns the truth?

Sounds great right!?  Before you run off to download your very own copy, let's get to the interview so we can learn more about Candace and what else she has coming up...

Book Monster Reviews:  Hi Candace!  Welcome to Book Monster Reviews!  Thank you for sitting down to chat with me.  I'm so happy to have you here today!

CANDACE:  Thanks so much for letting me hangout. You guys are so much fun!

Book Monster Reviews:  We always like to start out by getting to know you a little bit better.

Q1):   Can you tell us 3 things about yourself that we can't find out on the internet, in your bio, etc?

CANDACE:  1. I was a dancer from age 5 – 19. 2. My dogs Harley (Great Dane) and Gizmo (Japanese Chin/Maltese) are more trouble than either of my children ever were, but I adore them. 3. I have a huge crush on Kris Holden-Reid from “Lost Girl,” which means if I ever have to interview him, it will be awkward. (Smile) He’s not my normal “type” but he’s so sexy on that show.

Q2)  What are some hobbies and interests you like to do when you're not writing?

CANDACE:  Writing is therapy for me, so I do it all the time. I’m not very crafty, but my Grandma taught my how to crochet hats for the homeless. And I’m determined to learn how to knit. It’s like math, I have a complete mental block. But I love the “idea” of knitting. Oh, and music. I love finding new artists, or old ones I didn’t know about.

Q3)  How long have you been writing and who or what inspired you to start?

CANDACE:  I’ve been a professional journalist for 24 years. But I started writing fiction in late 2003. My first book, Charmed & Dangerous came out in 2005.

Q4)  If you could have one super power, what would power would you want and why that one?

CANDACE:  I don’t care what anyone says, I want to friggin’ fly. I LOVE the idea of soaring around in the air. I took pilot lessons and learned how to do everything but land. Problem was, I don’t like small, tight spaces, which is what you have to sit in to fly. (Smile) So if I could fly like Superman, but look like Batman (love that guy’s, um, gadgets), I’d be the happiest chick in the world.

Q5)  Can you please tell us about your newest release "Take It Like a Vamp"?

CANDACE:  It’s a best friends to lovers story about Nick, a billionaire, and his carefree, curvy neighbor Casey. They realize there is more between them than friendship, but they don’t want to do anything to ruin this relationship that is so special to them. It’s funny, because Casey is a hoot. And it’s sexy. You’ve got to love a man who digs a curvy chick.

Q6)  Is this the first book of a new series?  If so, can you please tell us what's coming up next?

CANDACE:  Yes, it is the first of a new series. Linc’s story will be next. He’s Nick’s friend, and Casey adores him. In my head, he looks like Kris, who I mentioned above. I cannot wait to write that one.

Q7):  What's going on with your Caruthers Sisters and Bronwyn the Witch series? Will you be releasing any more books in these series?

CANDACE:  I’m finally going to have new ones in that series in late 2013. I honestly can’t wait to go back to them. Those guys are very dear to my heart.

Q8) What are your favorite types of scenes to write (i.e dialogue, action, sex, etc) and why?

CANDACE:  It varies from day-to-day. I guess action. I like it when there are many balls in the air and I have to keep them going. I like those big scenes like weddings or parties where you can have so much fun and growth for your characters.

Q9)  What's next for Candace Havens?  What do you have planned in the upcoming months?

CANDACE:  It’s a busy time for me. I have a new steampunk series, which is a female Sherlock Holmes that starts in October. She’s solving paranormal mysteries in Texas and New Orleans in 1897, and there’s a hot Marshal hanging around. That’s all I’m saying. If you like Bronwyn, you’ll love Maisy. I have another paranormal with Covert, that may be out in November, we are hashing that one out. I have a Harlequin Blaze anthology with Lori Wilde and Kathleen O’Reilly called “All I want for Christmas…” that is out in December. And 2013 is going to be a wild, wild year for book releases for me. (Smile) I’m loving every minute of it.

Q10)  Is there anything specific you would like to say to the readers out there or anything you'd like let everyone know about?

CANDACE:  Wow! That’s a loaded question. Let’s see. Lovely readers, you guys make my days. When I’m down and you send me an email about why you loved one book or the other of mine, you rock my world. I adore you. I would invite you all to dinner if I could. And… I want folks to know that the Covet line, at least these first few books, are light, fun paranormals. They’re shorter books so there isn’t as much world building. We’re trying to do something different. These are the kinds of books I love to read and there just aren’t enough of them. I like dark paranormal romance, too. But every once in a while, it’s nice to have a chance to breathe.

Book Monster Reviews:  Thank you so much Candace for taking time out of your busy schedule to sit down and talk to us.  We'd love to have you back anytime to help promote your next release.

CANDACE:  Thank you again! Smooch!
