And if he seduces her on the way to hell and back?

Straight-laced preschool teacher, Lizzie Brown, never lies, never cusses, and doesn’t really care much for surprises. When her long lost Grandma Gertie shows up on her doorstep on a neon pink Harley Davidson wearing a “Kiss My Asphalt” t-shirt and hauling a carpet bag full of Smuckers jars filled with road kill magic, Lizzie doesn’t think her life could get any stranger. That is, until her hyper-active terrier starts talking and an ancient demon decides to kill her from his perch on the back of her toilet.

Lizzie learns she’s a demon slayer, fated to square off with the devil’s top minion in, oh about two weeks. Sadly, she’s untrained, unfit and under attack. Grandma’s gang of seventy-something biker witches promises to whip Lizzie into shape in no time, as long as she joins them out on the road. But Lizzie wants nothing to do with all this craziness. She simply wants her normal life back. When she accidentally botches the spell meant to protect her, she only has one choice – trust the utterly delicious but secretive man who claims to be her protector.

Dimitri Kallinikos has had enough. Cursed by a demon centuries ago, his formerly prominent clan has dwindled down to himself and his younger twin sisters, both of whom are now in the coma that precedes certain death. To break the curse, he must kill the demon behind it. Dimitri needs a slayer. At long last, he’s found Lizzie. But how do you talk a girl you’ve never met into going straight to Hell? Lie (and hope she forgives you). Dimitri decides to pass himself off as Lizzie’s fated protector in order to gain her trust and guide her towards this crucial mission. But will his choice to deceive her cost them their lives, or simply their hearts?

Demon-slaying powers should come with an instruction book…
Seriously. Why does a new hair dryer have a twelve-page how-to manual, but when it comes to ancient demon-fighting hocus-pocus, my biker witch granny gives me just half a dozen switch stars and a rah-rah speech? Oh, and a talking terrier, but that’s another story. It’s not like my job as a preschool teacher prepared me for this kind of thing.
So I’ve decided to write my own manual, The Dangerous Book for Demon Slayers, because no one tells me anything. Dimitri, my “protector,” may be one stud of a shape-shifting griffin, but he always thinks he can handle everything by himself. Only he’s no match for the soul-stealing succubi taking over Las Vegas. If I can’t figure out how to save him—and Sin City—there’ll be hell to pay.

Last month, I was a single preschool teacher whose greatest thrill consisted of color-coding my lesson plans. That was before I learned I was a slayer. Now, it’s up to me to face curse-hurling imps, vengeful demons, and any other supernatural uglies that crop up. And, to top it off, a hunk of a shape-shifting griffin has invited me to Greece to meet his family.

But it’s not all sun, sand, and ouzo. Someone has created a dark-magic version of me with my powers and my knowledge—and it wants to kill me and everyone I know. Of course, this evil twin doesn’t have Grandma’s gang of biker witches, a talking Jack Russell terrier, or an eccentric necromancer on its side. In the ultimate showdown for survival, may the best demon slayer win.

Lizzie Brown would just like to have one normal date. Instead she gets a towering inferno with a message: her long-lost dad is a fallen angel in danger of becoming a demon. Not good. Especially since she’s a demon slayer.

Her grandma advises her to stay out of it. Her sexy-as-sin shapeshifter boyfriend would much rather she devote her attention to more carnal pursuits. And her dog’s one demand is for more bacon. After all, he can’t train his pet dragon on an empty stomach.

But Lizzie knows there’s no other choice but to hop on her Harley and help her father – even if the search for the truth brings a bad-boy slayer back into her life and leads her into the middle of a war to end all wars.

We know!  They sound incredible and you just can't get enough!!  Before ya'll run off to start ordering the books, check out our interview with Angie to learn more about the incredible author behind the books…

with Angie Fox

Book Monster Reviews/LITERAL ADDICTION:  Hi Angie!  Welcome to Book Monster and LITERAL ADDICTION.   Thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedule to chat with us today.  We’re so happy to have you with us!

Angie:  Thanks! I’m glad to be here.

Q1):   Can you tell us 3 things about yourself that we can't find out on the internet, in your bio, etc?

Angie:  1) I’m a total klutz. Our entire family is – whenever anyone trips, spills or runs into something, we call it “Fox-ing up.”
      2) In college, I skipped class for a week so I could read Ann Rice’s entire vampire series straight through
      3) I am a total Parrot Head and have seen Jimmy Buffett in concert fifteen times. Frankly, I don’t know whether to be proud or slightly embarrassed by that.

2)  How old where you when you first realized you wanted to be a writer?  Was there anyone or anything in particular that inspired you?

Angie:  There was really no “ah hah” moment. I’m a huge reader, though, and I remember finishing books and thinking, “I wish I’d written that.” When the stars lined up, I tried my hand at writing a book and seven short (hah) years later, I sold my first book, The Accidental Demon Slayer.

3)  Do you have any interesting writing quirks or things that you must have with you to begin the writing process?

Angie:  I have to be on the green couch in the living room. That’s “the” place to write. My dog snuggles up next to me. Or, if she’s feeling nosy, she gets up on the pillow above me and supervises.

I also have to start a chapter in Times New Roman single space. That’s my font for creating. Then when I’m feeling like it’s come together pretty well, I switch over to Courier New double space and that somehow re-sets my mind and gives me a fresh look so I can edit and tweak. And I can’t move on to a new chapter until I’m feeling pretty set about the one before it.

4)  What is a typical day like in the life of Angie Fox?

Angie:  You mean after the pool boys wake me with breakfast in bed? Ha. Kidding. If I had pool boys, I’d never get out of bed.

It’s more like my dog gets me out of bed. She hangs with me while I write in the mornings. We go until about 1:00 p.m. Then in the afternoon, I’ll answer emails or work on promotions or (and this is my favorite) I’ll read for fun.

5)  What are some of your hobbies, or things that you enjoy doing when you’re not writing or taking care of other author business?

Angie:  My husband and I are big Mizzou football fans. I also follow Cardinal baseball and I get together far too often with the girls for cocktails. I’m trying to do yoga right now. The verdict is still out on that one. I really like it, but I don’t think you’re supposed to get stuck in certain poses. I tell my body to bend and it says, “Yeah, right.”

6)  What are some of your favorite TV shows and movies?

Angie:  I love True Blood, Game of Thrones, Castle, Mad Men, The Walking Dead and 30 Rock.

7)  I (Carla) come up with my best ideas while I'm laying in bed *trying* to fall asleep.  When or where do you come up with your best ideas?

Angie:  Any place that lacks a pencil and paper. I’ve had to pull over while driving and key ideas into my phone. I’ve ended showers early. Oh, and one time, the entire ending of a novel came to me while I was lifting weights at the gym. I snuck into the daycare area and asked the woman if she had a pen and paper. She gave me a purple crayon and a coloring sheet. Then, because I was afraid my kids would see me and want to talk (thus making ideas flee), I sat on the floor in front of the counter at the Kid’s Club and wrote out the ending of A Tale of Two Demon Slayers with that purple crayon. I got a lot of funny looks, but I didn’t care. I had the perfect ending and what I had on that coloring paper is pretty much exactly what’s in the book.

8)  Do you have a personal favorite book among those you have written so far?  Maybe one that holds special meaning for you, etc?

Angie:  Immortally Yours is my favorite so far. I never realized a book could be so complex, yet so character driven and humorous. It really stretched me as a writer. As I started writing Immortally Yours, I remember calling up an author friend of mine and telling her I’d made a mistake pitching this idea. How could I write a paranormal war drama, one set in a M*A*S*H unit, and make it funny? But then the characters took over and the rest is history.

9)  If you could spend the day with any one of your characters, who would it be, and what would you want to do?

Angie:  Well I feel like I already live with Pirate, so I think I’d grab a hold of the biker witches and see if I could get them to go on a road trip and show me that enchanted riverboat.

10)  So far THE ACCIDENTAL DEMON SLAYERS series has 4 books (not including novellas and anthologies).  Do you intend to write more stories in this world?

Angie:  Yes, I’m writing the fifth book in the series right now. Lizzie is going to be planning her wedding while doing her best to put down a rebellion in hell. Personally, I’m thinking that the wedding might give her the most trouble.

11)   How many books do you have planned for the ACCIDENTAL DEMON SLAYER series?

Angie:  I have the Accidental Demon Slayer books outlined through book five, which will be out at the end of this year. After that, it depends on what my schedule allows and what readers tell me they’d like to see.

12):   What are some of the challenges (research, literary, psychological, logistical, etc) of bringing THE ACCIDENTAL DEMON SLAYER series to life on the pages?

Angie:  Well the biker witches, not to mention Pirate and Flappy, can be a handful. You don’t know how many times they’ll take over a chapter without me realizing it. Then I have to go back and try and make them behave so that we can get to the meat of the story.

Occasionally, I’ll let a side story stay in there. Like in A Tale of Two Demon Slayers, Pirate adopts a pet. But he’s a dog. He’s a pet. A pet can’t have a pet. So Lizzie decides to get rid of the dragon. Only she’s busy fighting the bad guys and she keeps telling Pirate to find the dragon a good home. Only he’s hiding the dragon and every time Lizzie turns around, Flappy isn’t gone . Instead, the dragon is getting bigger and bigger and it’s all getting out of hand.

I felt her pain because I was trying to get rid of Flappy too. I didn’t feel like the series needed another character. Flappy was supposed to be in one or two scenes – tops. But he just wouldn’t leave. Now he’s a main character and I’m still not quite sure how it happened.

13)  Congratulations!  You have a new release coming out in August titled  "Immortally Yours".  Is this book a stand-alone or will this be the beginning of a new series?

Angie:  Immortally Yours is the start of a new trilogy. It takes place in a paranormal M*A*S*H camp. The heroine is a surgeon in the unit and the hero is a sexy-as-sin special ops soldier. It has a crazy supporting cast, like there is in the Accidental Demon Slayer books (I just love writing detailed supporting characters) and, thanks to a request by my editor, Immortally Yours has a lot more sex. I’ll be very interested to see what kind of heat ratings it gets.

15)  What other projects do you have in the works that you can share with us?

Angie:  Ask me in a few months. Right now, the next Accidental Demon Slayer book, along with the M*A*S*H trilogy are keeping me quite busy.

16)  What has been the most rewarding experience of your career so far?

Angie:  When readers email or stop by a signing and tell me that one of the books helped them through a tough time or made them smile when they really needed it. It doesn’t get any better than that.

17)  If you could have any one super power, what would you want it to be? Why that one?

Angie:
Teleportation. I’m not crazy about driving. I just want to get there. Plus, it would be fun to pop up behind people.

18)  If you could describe your life up to this moment in 5 words what would they be?

Angie:
Watch. Out. For. That. Tree.
(Bonus points if you know where that is from)

19)  What legacy do you hope to leave your readers with?

Angie: I just hope readers come to count on me for an amazing story, every time. I sure do my best.

20)  Is there anything specific you would like to say to your readers while we have you here today?

Angie:  Thanks for the love and support throughout the years! The emails and letters mean so much to me.

Book Monster Reviews/LITERAL ADDICTION:  Thank you again Angie for taking time out of your busy schedule to chat with us.  We would love to have you back again in December to help you promote the fifth book in THE ACCIDENTAL DEMON SLAYER series if you’re interested.

Angie:  You’re so sweet for having me. And yes, I’d love to come back later on this year.

Awww...thanks, Raonaid! Pirate is happy too. He's dying to get into some trouble.

That's awesome, Leann. That anthology for Werewives was a total blast to write. And I had to watch Desperate Housewives for research. Yes, it was tough, but I managed.

Glad to do it, Barb! It's great to hear you're enjoying the books!
