Lisa Kessler Guest Post

Hi everyone –
I’m excited to be here on Book Monster Reviews and

It’s late at night here, so I was able to corral the Night
Walker himself, Calisto Terana, for a quick interview.

Lisa:  Hi Calisto. Thanks for being here tonight.

Calisto:  You are most welcome.   I owe you everything.

Lisa:  *fanning myself*  Has anyone ever told you that you’ve got an amazing Spanish accent? *watching a smile pull at the corner of his sexy mouth… ahem* I’ll take that as a yes…
Moving on, can you tell the people here who haven’t
read your book yet, how you felt the moment you saw
Kate again for the first time in over 200 years?

Calisto:  Each year on the evening of Dia de los Muertos, the Day of the Dead, I brought fresh cut Romenya flowers to the Mission de Alcala in memory of my beloved Tala. I gave up my soul to the night shortly after her murder, and for over two centuries, I waited for her soul to be reborn.
I must confess that I had given up hope of ever
seeing her smile again.  *pausing he shakes his head*

Lisa:  But this time it was different?

Calisto:  Si.  *nodding*  After leaving the flowers at the base of the adobe cross in the courtyard, I noticed a woman slip out the sanctuary door before the Mass ended. She had her arms wrapped around her waist, and sighed as she stared up at the moon.
For a few minutes I stood frozen in the shadows, unable to breathe.  The profile of her face looked… familiar.  I watched her wander further into the courtyard, closer to me, and wrestled to keep hope at bay.  My heart pounded, begging me to speak to her, to see if she finally lived again.
I started to walk away, knowing I would only be disappointed again.
But there was something about this woman.
When she knelt to touch the Romneya flowers I left at the cross, my pulse raced.  The centuries I endured without her evaporated in an instant.  I needed a closer look.  I approached her and cleared my throat in an attempt to keep from startling her.
When she sprang to her feet and turned to face me, her cheeks flushed with color, but it was her eyes that caused my heart to stop.  In the lower corner of her right iris, I noticed the lighter crescent of color.  She had the moon in her eyes.
I fought to keep my hands from trembling, and slowly took in the rest of her face.  Her features were familiar, but not exactly as she had once been.  Her skin was lighter and the angle of her jaw softer, but her long black hair and her eyes were unchanged.
Tala lived again. I finally found her.

Lisa:  *dreamy sigh* Did she remember you too?

Calisto:  No.  And I made a vow that night not to use my powers to read her thoughts, or mesmerize her in any way.  Since fate had finally offered me a second chance to love her, I wanted to fall in love with her all over again.  I wanted to love the woman she was today and not the memory of who she had once been.

Lisa:  And did it work? *feeling my pulse race the moment he starts to smile*

Calisto:  Ah but I cannot tell you that.  The readers need to discover the ending of the story for themselves, no?

Lisa:  *rolling my eyes because I can feel myself blushing*  Okay, you’re probably right.  Thanks for joining me on the blog, Calisto.

Calisto:  The pleasure is mine, Lisa Kessler.

Lisa:  *trying not to giggle as he takes my hand and presses a quick kiss to my knuckles*  See you later!  *watching him walk out of the blog*

Shew!  Maybe I’ll start interviewing him more often!  That accent gets me every time…  Anyway, I hope Calisto intrigued you enough to pick up a copy of Night Walker!  It’s available in Barnes & Noble stores and in eBook format just about everywhere.

So do you believe in love at first sight?  Could it be that you’ve met before in a past life?  I’d love to hear your thoughts!  Thanks so much for commenting!
~ Lisa

She's haunted by dreams of her own death...

They've waited in the shadows for centuries...
Calisto has no doubt Kate is the reincarnation of his lost love, but the Fraternidad Del Fuego Santo has a new watcher with dark ambitions of his own. As old enemies reemerge and a new threat arises, the betrayal that enslaved Calisto to the night might destroy the only woman he's ever loved again.

All About Lisa:

I have always loved to make up stories.  My first published work was The Wonders of Unicorn Creek in 6th grade.  The 9 page epic was published by my tiny elementary school.
Since then I’ve published short stories in anthologies like: Dead Souls, Ladies of Horror 2009, Hell Hath No Fury, and magazines like: Sinisteria, Horrorfind, Twilight Times, The Writers Hood, Savage Night, The Murder Hole, Behold and Shadowkeepzine.
My story ”Immortal Beloved” was a finalist for a Bram Stoker award, and my story “The Third King” won second place in Behold’s short story contest.
I’ve completed the first two novels in my Night Trilogy, and the first two novels in my new Moon Series.
I’m thrilled to announce that Entangled Publishing has contracted my entire Night Walker series!!!  The first book will be released August 5, 2011!!!
I’ve also recently released an eBook short story Across the Veil.  I hope you’ll grab a copy!
When I’m not writing, I also sing.  (You can hear song samples on my website: )I’m a professional vocalist, performing with the San Diego Opera as well as other musical theater companies. I’m married to an incredible man who is also a great writer, and we live with our two teens in sunny San Diego, California.
Halloween is a fun time of year for me and all my ghouls.  I’ve always been fascinated by magic and what might be lurking the shadows.  Passion, love, jealousy, power and immortality also fuel many of my plots, but I’m not a villain…  I just enjoy writing them…
I hope you enjoy reading them!

Hi Lisa - Yes, I definitely believe in love at first sight. My parents fell in love with each other the moment their eyes met and were married for 65 years. They were so in love with each other until the day they passed away.
I loved the interview with Calisto - Happy Mother's Day.

thanks you for the interview and giveaway.
I believe in attraction at first sight but i think love takes more time. Attraction makes the people speak to each other then they can learn about each other and love each other ^^;; i'm romantic but also realistic i guess

all the best

I met my husband on a tuesday went out with him on wednesday and moved in on friday. Three months later he asked me to marry him. He could have asked 3 weeks and I still would have said yes. So you could say I believe in love at first sight ;)

Lisa Kessler said...

Hi Janna -

Awwww thanks for sharing your parents' romantic story! :)

My grandparents were like that! They were married after only knowing each other 6 weeks... They met planning a dance for military officers during the war.

They're still married almost 70 years later! *boggle*

I don't believe in love at first sight, though I believe there is lust at first sight. I semi-believe in reincarnation so I think it's possible to have met someone in a past life.

Anna said...

LOVED the interview! I've been wanting to read this book but now it's bumped to the top of my to-read pile! Thanks for that! :)

I do believe in love at first sight, i met my husband and knew immediately we'd be together always. He's my soulmate.

Lisa Kessler said...

Hi Amy -

I sometimes think reincarnation might be real... My daughter has always been an "old soul" and wiser than her years, so it's curious to wonder if she's gone around the life marry-go-round before... :)

Thanks for commenting!!!
