Interview and Contest with Caryn Moya Block

Caryn Moya Block
Interview Intro:

Hello everyone!  Book Monster Reviews (and LITERAL ADDICTION)  are very happy to welcome Caryn Moya Block to our sites today!
Caryn loves romantic movies and stories – basically anything that ends in a “Happily Ever After”, but has always been intrigued by the paranormal.
She’s an avid reader and writer who currently resides in the Virginia Piedmont surrounded by her husband of over thirty years, two grown sons, a beautiful daughter-in-law, and a variety of four legged ‘kids’.
Caryn is the proud creator of the SIBERIAN VOLKOV PACK series, which currently has 2 titles – “Alpha’s Mate”, and “A Siberian Werewolf in London”.
For those of you not yet familiar with Caryn’s work, here are the synopses for the SIBERIAN VOLKOV PACK books to get you up to speed:

“Alpha’s Mate”, Book #1:

A trip to Moscow brings Siberian Werewolf, Dmitry Volkov, and his pack members out of hiding. He’s looking for answers to the pack’s breeding problems. But he never expected to find them in the delectable Violet Anderson. With rogue werewolves causing problems in the pack, can he bring a fragile human woman home as his mate?

Wildlife photographer, Violet Anderson is stopping in Moscow, before she goes on assignment to shoot the elusive Russian Gray Wolf. When she meets Dmitry at a local hotspot, the sparks fly. The animal magnetism tells her she might have just met the man of her dreams. But Violet has a couple of secrets of her own, and following a wounded animal to its lair has never been a safe thing to do.

“A Siberian Werewolf in London”,
Book #2:

Grigori Solovyov goes to London to track down a Russian mobster who is stealing from the pack. Then Melisande Reule walks into his hotel, bringing his wolf howling to the surface. He knows he has found his mate. But when she is targeted by a Russian assassin, Grigori must fight to keep her safe and at his side.

They sound fabulous right!?  How about we get to the interview to learn a bit more about Caryn and her books, shall we!?

LITERAL ADDICTION/Book Monster Reviews:  Hi Caryn!  We’re very happy to have you here today.  Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to chat with us.
CARYN: Thank you so much for inviting me. I love keeping up with you on Facebook and your website.

LITERAL ADDICTION/Book Monster Reviews:  We always start by getting to know our guest author a little bit better.

Q1): Can you tell us 3 things about yourself that we couldn’t find out easily on the Internet?
CARYN: Ah, you want me to spill all my secrets. Well, I am a Reiki master/teacher as well as a Theta practitioner. For those of you who don’t know what that is, I am an energy healer. I don’t do energy work as a business, but I will if someone asks me for help. I’ve actually been the catalyst for two miraculous healings. I also like to go ghost hunting.

Q2):  What are 2 things that always make you smile, and 2 things that never fail to piss you off?
CARYN: I love animals. My dogs always make me smile. Seeing any king of baby animal makes me happy. I just saw some baby goslings the other day and I knew spring had arrived. I’m actually a very mellow person. But I hate it when people ignore me or won’t listen to me.

Q3):  If you could have 1 superpower, what would you want it to be and why?
CARYN: FLYING! I love rollercoasters and the Tower Of Terror ride. Flying would be so cool. I’d probably giggle the whole time.

Q4):  What are some of your hobbies and/or things that you enjoy doing when you’re not writing or taking care of other author business?

CARYN: I like to paint, though I don’t consider myself an artist. I also like to take pictures of nature.

Q5):  Who were some of the authors that inspired you and perhaps helped to mold you into the writer you are today?

CARYN: I grew up reading Andre Norton, Anne McCaffrey, and Mercedes Lackey. But I also have to thank Terry Spear. I took several of her workshops before I published “Alpha’s Mate”.

Q6):  With fantasy being such a popular genre these days, what about it draws you personally?
CARYN: I grew up being different. I saw my first ghost at 3 years of age. I believe there is so much more to the world than what our five senses can perceive. Writing about the worlds in my imagination was the logical progression
Q7):  What are your favorite types of scenes to write (i.e dialogue, action, sex, etc) and why?

CARYN: I actually enjoy those tender moments the most. A moment of connection, a sign of affection. I love the friendship between Dmitry and Kolya. Writing about those moments was fun and touched my heart.

Q8):  What is a typical writing day like for you - Do you have a routine that you follow?  Are there specific things that you have to have with you to get the creative juices flowing, etc?  Do you have any unique writing quirks?
CARYN: I have to have my HP Mini laptop. The keyboard is just right for my hands. My Favorite place to write is in bed. I prop up the pillows, balance the computer on my legs and write. The master bedroom is my sanctuary. I like to nest in there. When I am on a roll I won’t leave the room. My husband and son are forced to find their own food and bring me nourishment as needed.

Q9):  Was there any specific inspiration behind the creation of the SIBERIAN VOLKOV PACK series?
CARYN: I love wolves. I have such a strong connection to my dogs and nature that writing about someone who could turn into a wolf was fun for me. I studied wolf behaviors and pack dynamics so I could write about them from a logical standpoint. I also researched Siberia and its native peoples. There is a legend of that area of a man who mates with Asena (a She-wolf) and has ten sons. One of those sons is supposed to be the first Khan of the Mongols.

Q10):  How many books do you have planned for the series?

CARYN: As long as I get story ideas and the characters speak to me I will continue. Right now I have ideas for 8 books.

Q11):  What can we expect as the series progresses?
CARYN: The Siberian werewolves will continue to spread from Siberia to other parts of the world while finding their mates.

Q12):  What were some of the challenges in bringing “Apha’s Mate” and “A Siberian Werewolf in London” to life?
CARYN: I did a lot of research. On the genre, on marketing, on e-books and different sites. I watched authors that I enjoy to see what they were doing. Then there was the writing. I hadn’t tried to write a whole story since college. I read books and took workshops to improve my skills. Joined a writing group. Researched wolves and Siberia and then London. Finally, it was getting my courage together and putting my stories out there for the world to see.

Q13):  What about the books are you the most proud of?
CARYN: Making those connections with the readers. I get e-mails and comments on my website from all over the world. I love knowing someone out there enjoyed the story I shared with them.

Q14):  What’s next for Caryn Moya Block?  What do you have going on in the immediate future that your readers and fans should know about?

CARYN: Both Anton and Brencis have stories to be told. I also have a new series I call “Shadow Walkers” that feature a Native American tribe that has paranormal abilities.

Q15):  Is there anything special that you’d like to say to your readers while we have you here today?

CARYN: I owe my success to my readers and I appreciate each and every one of you. Thank you so much.

LITERAL ADDICTION/Book Monster Reviews:  Caryn, thank you so much again for being with us today.  We’re very happy to help you promote your series and turn some new readers on to your work.  We’d love to have you back for the next release if you’re interested.
CARYN: I would love to come back and share what’s happening with both my werewolf pack and the Shadow Walkers.

Sounds like a great werewolf series! I hope that all 8 books are accepted. I love when authors research as it makes books richer and more detailed.
