Anne Marsh Interview Intro:
Hello everyone! LITERAL ADDICTION and Book Monster Reviews are very happy to welcome Anne Marsh to our sites today!
Anne is a professional technical writer who found out that getting laid off could be a great thing. While she was looking for her next job, she grabbed her Mac and started writing. Quickly after, she discovered that it was uncomfortably similar to sit-ups; add a few more each day, wake up sore, but you WILL do it! Now she cranks out software manuals during the day and writes about Alpha shapeshifters the rest of the time…
Anne is the creator of the FALLEN series, which current consists of “Bond with Me”, “His Dark Bond”, and the recently released “Savage Bond”.
For those of you not yet familiar with Anne’s work, we thought we’d give you the synopses of the current books to get you up to speed.
FALLEN Series:
“Bond with Me”
FALLEN Book #1:
Fallen angels… They rule Moscow’s seedy underworld, promising untold pleasure to the females who dare to mate them. That promise – and Brends Duranov’s own raw sexual power – has hopefuls mobbing the velvet rope outside his elite club G2’s.
But Mischka Baran has no intention of hooking up with one of the Fallen. Not even after Brends gives her an unforgettable taste of the sin and seduction he can deliver with those wicked lips. She’s after information, not a stint as some Goblin’s toy of the month. What she doesn’t know is that with a sadistic killer carving up his brethren, Brends is playing for keeps, hunting the one woman whose bloodline can end the mayhem, whose bond can restore his lost wings.

“His Dark Bond”
FALLEN Book #2:
He Hungers For Her Body. . .
Zer is no angel--well, not anymore. He's explored every flavor of sin imaginable, drinking in the pleasures of humanity. But now he must find the woman who carries his salvation in her very blood. . .a woman like Nessa St. James.
And Her Soul
Nessa has considered the bargain the Fallen offer. Anything she wants in exchange for accepting Zer's bond? No way. Not her. Not when she finds out about the mind-blowing ritual involved, and the marks of surrender that will ink her skin. But with a serial killer to stop and centuries of experience on his side, this is one job Zer's going to nail.

“Savage Bond”
FALLEN Book #3:
As a former Dominion warrior and Fallen angel, Vkhin knows how to fight. How to track his prey. And when to deal out death with brutal efficiency. Redemption isn’t part of his plans—until he finds himself chasing Ria Morgan through a wasteland.
Now, he’s hunting for the woman who could restore both his lost wings—and his soul.
Ria Morgan was just doing her job, shooting recon photos of a secret Fallen prison. When her chopper goes down, however, she figures her days are numbered. Until the dark angel hunting her offers her a temptingly seductive deal: bond with him and he’ll keep her safe. Safety’s tempting—but Vkhin is even more so. Now, Ria must choose between long-held loyalties and the wickedly sensual pleasure of Vkhin’s touch.
Well, we’re fairly certain that was enough to peak your interest and get you frantically checking your favorite bookseller for purchase information, but we have more for you. What do you say we get to the Interview and learn some more about Anne and her books?

LITERAL ADDICTION/Book Monster Reviews: Hi Anne! We’re very happy to have you here today. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to chat with us.
ANNE: Thanks so much for having me! It’s always nice to poke my head out of the writerly cave and talk with people J
LITERAL ADDICTION/Book Monster Reviews: We always start by getting to know our guest author a little bit better.
Q1): Can you tell us 3 things about yourself that we couldn’t find out easily on the Internet?
ANNE: BOND WITH ME opens with a club scene. I had an absolutely terrific time writing it… and then realized, after I submitted the finished book to my editor, that I’ve actually been in a club a grand total of once in my life (but, hey—it was in Moscow, so that has to count for something, right?). I’m a complete introvert and the last thing you’d ever find me doing is clubbing and dancing… but I absolutely loved writing about it and living vicariously.
When I’m writing, I like to stock up on self-help books from the library. Not for me, but for my characters! Those kinds of books are fabulous… all “Here’s the problem and here’s how you change!” It’s like insta-character arc. Of course, my local librarian and my husband are fairly concerned, but that’s a whole different story… (funny how husbands get when you start schlepping home self-help books about sex! They don’t know if they should post-it note interesting parts, volunteer as a research subject, or just run screaming for the hills)
I’m a really bad but very passionate gardener, so I celebrate every book “moment” (getting a new contract, starting the book, finishing the book, page 1, page 2…) by buying flowers and bulbs for the garden. This makes the Dutch bulb companies very happy, but has my neighbors fairly convinced that I have a very weird fetish for flowers.
Q2): What are 3 things that always make you smile?
ANNE: Cats, pictures of tropical islands, and anything recognizable growing in my garden.
Q3): If you could have 1 superpower, what would you want it to be and why?
ANNE: I’ve taken this question seriously ever since reading Christine Feehan! Right now, I’d choose invisibility—maybe it’s that introvert thing, or maybe it’s running into one too many really strange people in San Francisco.
Q4): What are some of your hobbies and/or things that you enjoy doing when you’re not writing or taking care of other author business?
ANNE: I went on a job interview a few years ago, for a position as a technical writer, and the interviewer asked me at the end of the interview what I liked to do when I wasn’t writing and I just kind of stared at him. I’m not sure I was aware there was life away from the keyboard. I have two kids, five cats and a husband—any or all of those are loads of fun to spend time with ;) I’m also the mad gardener and running is always fun once I’ve finished. Tropical vacations are good, too—I just spent two weeks in the South Pacific and went without the laptop… after fourteen days of floating over coral, I was sold!
Q5): Do you have a personal favorite fallen? Why?
ANNE: I always like the one who is next. I’m fickle. Usually, while I’m writing, bits of story start to tease me for the next guy. Right now, I’m trying to decide if I should write Nael’s story next, or write the story for the Fallen who makes a very small cameo in SAVAGE BOND—he’s been sent to find the other person who crash-landed in the Preserves with SAVAGE BOND’s heroine… and I think there are going to be some fireworks there.
Q6): Who were some of the authors that inspired you and perhaps helped to mold you into the writer you are today?
ANNE: I started reading paranormal completely by accident. I’d read Christine Feehan’s Gothic LAIR OF THE LION. I absolutely adored it so I did something I’d never done—I tore the “Order more books!” coupon out of the back of the book, wrote a check and mailed it in. I was absolutely horrified when the box of books showed up… they were ALL vampire books. I’d never read a vampire story in my life and had no desire to do so—but, since I’d just sunk an appalling amount of money into the books, I forced myself to try one. And fell in love. Even better, the publisher I mailed that check to? Ended up being my first publisher.
Q7): What are your favorite types of scenes to write (i.e dialogue, action, sex, etc)?
ANNE: I’m actually starting to really enjoy writing the sex scenes. I used to dread it—my first book, my editor kept saying “These sex scenes are too short! Make them longer!” (I’m much more sympathetic to male performance anxiety now!) Now, I’ve realized that the characters have emotional reasons for why they’re in the beds they’re in. They’re learning about each other with each kiss, with each touch. So it’s not all “Wham, bam, thank you, ma’am!” You can tell a lot about a hero by how he makes love.
Q8): What is a typical writing day like for you - Do you have a routine that you follow? Are there specific things that you have to have with you to get the creative juices flowing, etc? Do you have any unique writing quirks?
ANNE: I get up around 4 a.m. (five hungry cats help here) and write until 6 or 6:30. Then, I switch into Mommy mode and day job mode. I usually steal another hour or two at lunch time, and then finish up in the evening. Coffee is essential. A laptop is essential. Otherwise, the only essential thing is getting my butt in the chair.
Q9): Was there any specific inspiration behind the creation of the FALLEN series?
ANNE: Yes. Occasionally, I’d pay attention when I was in graduate school. One of the things that really stuck with me was the Slavic version of the Fall. Old Church Slavonic doesn’t pull any punches—it’s extremely graphic, very blunt. The description of the Fall and what happened to those former angels was unforgettable. I built on that (albeit in English!) for the Fallen series.
Q10): How many books do you have planned for the series?
ANNE: I’m honestly not sure. As many as Kensington will let me do? As long as you all keep reading?
Q11): What can we expect as the series progresses?
ANNE: I’d like to focus more on the stories of individual Fallen, rather than the overarching battle in the Heavens. There are at least two more soul mates out there, and my bad boys need to go searching for these women and a second chance at heaven.
Q12): What has been your biggest surprise so far in your writing career?
ANNE: Discovering that I had a voice for contemporary romances. I honestly don’t read much contemporary romance, other than the occasional Blaze. But, I had this crazy idea for a book with a smoke jumper hero and I pitched it to my agent while I was procrastinating on a book and… she liked it. And Kensington Brava liked it. So now I’m writing both sexy paranormal and sexy contemporary.
Q13): What were some of the challenges in bringing the FALLEN series to life?
ANNE: The enormous gap in the publishing schedule was a challenge. I originally sold the first Fallen novel to Dorchester Publishing. At the time, they were one of the oldest independent publishing houses in the U.S. and they had a fabulous reputation for taking a chance on new authors. Unfortunately, whoever was handling their finances wasn’t quite as savvy as their editors… so they ran into an enormous bad patch and shut down. I was able to move the series to Kensington Brava, but that meant a wait of eighteen months between books for readers… and it also made it hard to not upset the continuity of the books inadvertently because, frankly, my memory for details gets fuzzy after a couple of hours… so months and months and months between books can lead to a few continuity issues. I’m much happier with SAVAGE BOND following so closely on the heels of HIS DARK BOND!
Q14): What’s next for Anne Marsh? What do you have going on in the immediate future that your readers and fans should know about?
ANNE: I have my first contemporary single title release at the end of October 2012. BURNING UP is about one very sexy smoke jumper. The making of the cover for this book was actually featured in Time Magazine, in their December 5th, 2011 issue, so I promise… he’s worth looking at ;) Kensington is also releasing a very sensual contemporary novella with a cowboy hero—ONE HOT COWBOY. Basically, I’m working my way through all the yummy heroes.
Q15): Is there anything special that you’d like to say to your readers while we have you here today?
ANNE: Just a heartfelt thank you! Before I started down the crazy New York publishing path, I’d read these little notes from authors thanking their readers and think “That’s so sweet.” Now, four books in, I get it. You all are what makes publishing so meaningful. I could write story after story and keep those stories to myself… but it’s just so much fun to share my heroes and hear from you all and know that, ups or downs, good covers or bad, someone’s waiting to read a story I wrote. So I thank you J
