Alyssa Day is back on Book Monster!!

Alyssa Day Interview Intro:

Hello everyone!  Book Monster Reviews and LITERAL ADDICTION are proud to welcome New York Times and USA Today bestselling and award winning author, Alyssa Day back to our sites today!

Alyssa Day is the pen name (and dark and tortured alter ego) of RITA award-winning author Alesia Holliday.  She is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of paranormal romance and urban fantasy novels.  She was born in Biloxi, Mississippi, and spent her childhood moving all around the world with her family and her dad, who was in the U.S. Air Force, living in such varied and wonderful places as Colorado, the Philippines, Alaska, Turkey, Texas, Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, and probably a few other places she has forgotten.  After graduating from The Ohio State University (go Buckeyes!) with a degree in sociology, she worked in the real world for a while but then went to law school, graduating summa cum laude from Capital Law School in Columbus, Ohio.  She practiced law as a trial lawyer in three different states before deciding that she had more fun with the voices in her head than the ones in courtrooms.  After marrying Navy Guy, she started on another round of adventures, moving from Ohio to Florida to Seattle to Florida to Virginia to Florida to Japan (so far!).

A voracious reader, Alyssa has a collection of research books on mythology and history that nearly makes the moving guys cry when they come to pack up her house each time the Navy decides to send her family on a new adventure.  When not writing or reading or driving white-knuckled on the left side of the road in Japan, she can be found watching reality TV, going to the movies (she adores really, really bad Sci-Fi movies), travelling, and trying new restaurants.  She puts pictures of her adventures as #blondeinJapan up on Facebook and Twitter.

Her Warriors of Poseidon novels are published by Penguin books, under the Berkley imprint.  Atlantis Rising was the first of the series, and was featured on the cover of the March, 2007, issue of Romantic Times BOOKClub magazine.   All of the Warriors of Poseidon novels have rocked the bestseller lists and have been featured in the Rhapsody and Doubleday book clubs.  The Warriors novels follow High Prince Conlan of Atlantis and his elite warriors as they protect humanity, save the world, and find amazing human women to fall in love with.  (No mermaids, gills, or fish tails; these warriors are 100% pure alpha male!).

Alyssa’s exciting new project is an urban fantasy series called THE LEAGUE OF THE BLACK SWAN that combines her love of the paranormal with a hot contemporary setting, and she’s so excited to share it with you.  Deets on this new series will be coming soon!

When she’s not playing in her paranormal worlds, Alyssa is the very busy mom to two brilliant children (chaperone the trip to Yokohama Science Museum? Sure!), the wrangler to a varying number of rescue pugs, and the wife of Navy Guy, who may be flying over an ocean near you in his mighty P 3 Orion at this very minute.

The WARRIORS OF POSEIDON currently consists of seven (7) books and two (2) novellas, Book 1 - "Atlantis Rising", #2 - "Atlantis Awakening", #3 - "Atlantis Unleashed", #4-"Atlantis Unmasked", #5-"Atlantis Redeemed", #6-"Atlantis Betrayed", #7-"Vampire in Atlantis" which was just released in June 2011 and the 2 novellas that can be found in the "Wild Thing" and "Shifter" anthology books.  The eighth and most highly anticipated release in the series "Heart of Atlantis" is scheduled to be released December 2012 and will be the final book of the series *sniff, sniff - wiping my tears as I type*.

Alyssa also has an eBook that is being released very soon called "Alejandro's Sorceress".

Let's take a look and see what these amazing books are all about…

"Alejandro's Sorceress"

Alejandro is the amazing character from ATLANTIS UNLEASHED who stole every scene he was in.  When he graduates from intensive training in the FBI's Paranormal Operations division, his first case finds him facing the love of his life--who is now an apprentice sorceress!!  Crazy cool magic, wicked hot sex, and an onslaught of hideous demons make this novella a fun, sexy can't-miss read! Coming next week as an e-special!

The USA Today bestselling first book in the new Warriors of Poseidon series! High Prince Conlan and Riley meet and Atlantis will never be the same.
Eleven thousand years ago, before the seas swallowed the Atlanteans, Poseidon assigned a few chosen warriors to act as sentinels for humans in the new world. There was only one rule--desiring them was forbidden. But rules were made to be broken . . .
Riley Dawson is more than a dedicated Virginia Beach social worker. She's blessed with a mind link that only Atlanteans have been able to access for thousands of years.
Conlan, the high prince of Atlantis, has surfaced on a mission to retrieve Poseidon's stolen Trident. Yet something else has possessed Conlan: the intimate emotions and desires of a human.
In the battle to reclaim Poseidon's power, how long can a forbidden love last between two different souls from two different worlds?

To rescue the world from an overwhelming evil, Poseidon's warriors have risen from Atlantis. Chief among them is Ven, serving as the King's Vengeance by birthright and by battle challenge. None can conquer him--except perhaps for one human female....

The Warrior... Ven's mind is filled with duty. He must serve as Atlantean liaison to the humans in a war waged against the vampires. A sword is his weapon--not diplomacy. But on a mission to recover the Nereid's heart--a ruby of immense power--it will take every ounce of strength he possesses to resist the sexual allure of the beautiful witch chosen to work with him.

And the Witch... Erin's heart is filled with vengeance. She lives only for the chance at revenge against those who murdered her family. Now she must partner with a legendary Atlantean warrior whose dark desire threatens to crash through the barriers built around her emotions--and her heart. Caught in the trap of shifting alliances, how long can Ven and Erin resist their awakening passion?

Dark forces beware: Atlantis is awakening.

A warrior scarred…

Alexios survived two years of unspeakable torture at the hands of a vampire goddess. Now he’s been ordered to team up with a beautiful warrior and take on the most dangerous mission of his life: to retrieve the Vampire’s Bane. Without it, Atlantis can’t ascend to the surface and take its rightful place in the world. But when evil threatens, will Alexios be led by duty—or his heart?
A descendant of Diana…

Grace is part of the rebellion against the vampires and shape-shifters trying to take over her world. She is deadly with her bow, because when she takes aim, she never misses her target. When two worlds collide…Atlantis is unmasked.

A woman with an eye for the truth…

But when she discovers human scientists conducting hideous experiments on humans and shape-shifters alike, only a wildly sexy Atlantean can help protect her from the those determined to see her fail—and die. When the future of the world is at stake, can she overcome death itself so together they can protect mankind?

Atlantis Betrayed
 Berkley Sensation
September, 2010

Poseidon’s warriors have learned that the battle to protect humanity produces unexpected enemies--and alliances. And one of the most powerful of all Atlantean warriors will soon find both…in one daring beauty.

A warrior’s mission, a woman’s desire…

What could Christophe, powerful Warrior of Poseidon, have in common with Fiona Campbell, prim and proper Scottish illustrator of fairytales by day and notorious jewel thief known as the Scarlet Ninja by night? Answer:  The Siren, a legendary Crown Jewel that Fiona has targeted for her next heist. It’s said to be worth millions, but to Christophe it’s invaluable. For the Siren also happens to be one of the missing jewels from Poseidon’s trident.
And the unnatural evil that could destroy them both.

But breaking into the Tower of London is a two-person job, so Christophe and Fiona team up to commit the crime of the century. As newfound passions fire their motives--and cloud their judgment--they realize they aren’t the only ones after the priceless gem. A dark force is shadowing their every move, and threatening to shatter their trust with revenge, betrayal, and a haunting revelation about the past.

Vampires in Atlantis
 Berkley Sensation
June 7, 2011

The most unexpected of all allies to Poseidon’s warriors has proven to be the fiercest—Daniel, a vampire and Night Guild mage. But even the strongest alliance can be destroyed when an 11,000 year-old desire is reborn…

A vampire’s oath, a maiden’s quest…

Daniel, vampire and ally of the Warriors of Poseidon, has fought on the side of humanity—even against his fellow creatures of the night—for more than 11,000 years.  But the crushing weight of futility and the reality of always being starkly, utterly alone has forced him to finally give into despair. He took the first step into the sunlight that would destroy him—and instead walked into Atlantis.

And the blackest of magic that could consume them both…

Eleven thousand years ago, Serai was one of a group who agreed to be placed into magical stasis to ensure the future of the Atlantean race. When a dark sorceress steals the gemstone that protects her sleeping sisters, she awakens to a vastly changed world—and the one man she could never, ever forget. And with an ancient evil tracking their every step, the long-lost lovers must battle both the darkest of magic and the treacheries of their own hearts.

If you have not read this AMAZING series yet, we highly recommend that you do, as it's one of our favorites.

Now that we’ve got you all checking out this awesome series, how about we get to the interview and learn more about the remarkable woman behind the WARRIORS OF POSEIDON shall we!?

Book Monster Reviews/LITERAL ADDICTION:  Welcome back Alyssa!  We're so happy to have you back with us today!
Alyssa {opening comments}: I'm thrilled to be here again!! And sorry for my disorganization! This "life with no furniture/working on a borrowed card table with no office supplies until everything I own arrives from Japan" has been AWFUL!!  (update as of 4/30: My stuff will finally be delivered tomorrow! Send me good unpacking vibes as I deal with 15,000 lbs. of household goods; most of that books, I think! LOL)

Book Monster Reviews/LITERAL ADDICTION:  Since you're a repeat offender and we asked you our standard interview questions last time, we thought we'd liven it up a little and ask some fun questions this time around.…

Q1):  Last time we had you here, we asked you what 3 things that never fail to make you smile.  Today we'd like to know, what are 3 things that never fail to piss you off?
Alyssa: Oh, boy, that is too funny!!  You could probably ask me for the top 300 things this month; I've been cranky!
1.  Bad drivers! Yesterday, a driver in front of me made a sharp right turn even though the pedestrians had the right-of-way, and he nearly took out two children on bicycles.  I was so angry I was shaking.
2. Bad customer service! I went through an amazing ordeal trying to get carpet installed last week that I thought would make my head explode.  I feel like people should at least pretend to care--it's their job.  I KNOW about bad jobs--I worked the all-you-can-eat burrito buffet at Taco Ole on Ohio State campus during the lunch rush.  Picture a roomful of very large football players eating plate after plate of BEANS.  Now imagine the SMELL.  I'm not kidding that I know about bad jobs.  I am still today afraid of refried beans.
3.  My own disorganization over the past couple of months! We moved to Florida November 30 after a year and a half in Japan, and international moves kick my butt.  I have two kids and a dog, and between jet lag, establishing new schools, all of us getting sick immediately, etc. etc., I have been behind on everything and not my usually compulsively organized self.  I am SO EXCITED to finally receive my household goods after 5 months of camping out in my own house with the bare basics.  (Although, when you only have 4 forks in a drawer, there are never a lot of dirty dishes . . . LOL).

Q2):  If you had the opportunity to spend the day with anyone of your choosing (dead or alive), who would you pick and what would you do?

Alyssa:  Oh, wow.   I might choose Plato, and ask him if he really DID make up Atlantis, or if he really DID hear about it from Solon.  Or I might choose Joss Whedon, just because I think he'd be a hoot to hang out with and I love the way the man's mind works.  (Cabin in the Woods was hilarious!) But probably my grandmother, who died too soon, so I never was able to get the whole story about her life.  She quit school during the Depression to pick beans and support her family. She was an indomitable spirit.

Q3):  If your house was on fire (everyone is already out safely) and you had the chance to grab one book, which book would you try to save and why?

Alyssa: Photo albums with baby pictures.  No contest.

Q4):  If you could have the starring role in one film already made, which movie would you pick and why that movie?

Alyssa:  Ooh, what a fun question.  Maybe a professor in the Harry Potter movies?  Or the evil queen in the upcoming Snow White? Charlize Theron looks like she's having a blast playing that role!

Q5):  What is your favorite guilty pleasure?

Alyssa: Sneaking out to see a movie when I should be doing something productive.  I'm going to see The Raven with friend and awesome writer Lena Diaz (kickass romantic suspense) this week.

Q6):  If you could be any animal in the world for 24 hours, which animal would choose to be and why?

Alyssa:  Always a tiger.  It's the most fascinating animal in the world to me--I'm getting ready to build an entire series around were-tiger Jack from my Warriors of Poseidon world.  *Hey - that's a Book Monster exclusive!!!  I haven't told anyone that yet!!!*

Q7):  If you could be invisible for a day, what would you do?
Alyssa:  Mwah ha ha.  Conquer the world, raid a really great chocolate store, hide from my children (but the dogs would find me, they're all about scent), probably just lurk about like a dork thinking how cool it was that I was invisible.  ROFL.

Q8):  What was your most embarrassing moment?

Alyssa: HA.  You don't have that kind of money, trust me. J

Q9):  Who is the person you admire most?
Alyssa: My husband, Navy Guy, who, like everyone in our armed forces, has sacrificed so much in order to defend and protect our lives and freedoms.  On Thursday he will have his official promotion ceremony to Commander, and I am so proud of him.  On a personal note, when I grew frustrated in the early days of writing and printed out resumes to go back to my career as a trial lawyer, he refused to let me give up and said he knew I'd be a great writer.

Q10):   What's up next for Alyssa Day?

Alyssa: My new series!! The League of the Black Swan will debut next year, and it's going to be a blast.  I'll tell you more and have giveaways including cool black swan jewelry, when I come back in December!

Book Monster Reviews/LITERAL ADDICTION:  Alyssa, thank you so much for taking the time out of your busy schedule to be with us today!  We can't wait to have you back in December to help promote the highly anticipated release of Alaric's book.
Alyssa {closing comments}: Thanks for having me--and thanks so much for your patience with me during my craziness.  Also, if anybody wants to come unpack a box or thirty, just come on down!!
