Kate Douglas Interview Intro:
Hello everyone! Book Monster Reviews and LITERAL ADDICTION are very excited to welcome Kate Douglas to our sites today!
Kate has a great bio of herself on her blog so we borrowed it and posted it below so you can learn more about her.
All About Kate:
since you've come this far....
...the least I can do is tell you a little bit about myself. I am a writer. I think I've always been a writer. It's woven into my fabric in some inescapable manner so that it defines everything I think or do. I'm also a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a fairly decent photographer and a pretty good cook...over the course of my sixty-plus years I've been a student, a florist, a bookkeeper, a newspaper reporter, a cartoonist, a hostess in a winery tasting room (now THAT'S the place to find stories!) and a teacher~~but first and foremost, I am a writer...though I must admit, Gramma--or Dabba, as I'm called--is a close second!
I have an interview up at ARomanceReview.com if you're at all interested in some of the details of the writing life. I enjoy doing interviews as they make me actually think about why I do what I do...and why I enjoy it so much!
My husband and I have left the northern California wine country for the peaceful mountains of Lake County. We live in the beautiful little community of Cobb, which is a great place to retire...except I can't imagine not writing, so retirement isn't something I'm planning on at all. My husband, however, has taken to his newly unemployed state with great glee...and I'm loving the fact he's doing some of the cooking for a change!
Our son and daughter are grown and on their own--thanks to our daughter and son-in-law we're grandparents to two absolutely perfect grandsons and a granddaughter who is in constant motion. Our son is married to the lovely young woman he's got his arms wrapped around on the cover of Cowboy in My Pocket--we're glad he was smart enough not to let go of her! Their daughter, Ella, son Owen and brand-new daughter Alice are just as perfect as the others, so our family continues to grow in the most wonderful way.
Other than our little "tree incident" as I'm calling it, life would be pretty carefree for us, but Doug and I once made the foolish mistake of saying, out loud, how much we enjoyed our freedom. That's about the time Rufus tumbled into our lives, a furry little castaway who, in a very short time, has achieved complete dominion over our household.
He's a fairly benign despot, but we’ve acknowledged we no longer live in a democracy.
I don't do the cycling photography I used to and the webpage of cycling photos is currently inactive. My link with the cycling community is through the website I maintain for our son's friend, Ross Dillon, who is recovering from a very serious brain injury. He was hit by a car while riding his bike and remained in a coma for many weeks. He still has a long way to go, but his courage and the courage and dedication of his family and friends are a constant inspiration to all of us.
As far as my professional life, writing consumes me now, something I always wanted. It was time to get my creative priorities in order. With twelve novels and ten novellas released through Kensington's Aphrodisia line as well as four books (counting CrystalFire, the final book in the DemonSlayers series) and one novella with Kensington’s Zebra imprint, and two more manuscripts completed for the Aphrodisia Dream Catchers series, I'm busier than I ever imagined doing the job I love. Please take a look at my erotic romances with first chapter excerpts of all (but only if you're over 18!) at my erotic romance website.
I love to hear from readers, or better yet, subscribe to my monthly newsletter. I run a contest each month and always have something neat to give away, either a book, an ARC (advance readers copy) or something else that's either fun or edible. (click here to subscribe!)

Book Monster Reviews/LITERAL ADDICTION: Hi Kate! Welcome to Book Monster and LITERAL ADDICTION! We are very honored to have you with us today!
Kate: Thank you so much for inviting me to talk about my stories. I’m so excited about this final book in the series, and I can’t wait to see what readers think of my hero and heroine—and the final outcome of the battle between good and evil.
Book Monster Reviews/LITERAL ADDICTION: We like to start out by getting to know our guest author a bit more, and then we’ll dig into the books.
Q1): Can you tell us 3 things about yourself that we can't find out on the internet?
Kate: LOL...that might be tough. I’m pretty open with my readers and really don’t have any secrets. Between Facebook and Twitter (which I’m still trying to figure out) and my regular postings on blogs, I think all my secrets have been told!
Q5) If you could have 1 superpower, what would you want it to be and why?
Kate: Only one? You’re no fun! I think I would love to fly. I’m a serious bird watcher, and I think part of my fascination is pure jealousy!
Q7): How many years have you been writing for? Did you ever believe you'd be where you are now?
Q8): Do you have any interesting writing quirks or something you must have with you to begin your daily writing process?
Kate: I need my laptop, my recliner, a big glass of ice water (or coffee first thing in the morning) and quiet. I wear my comfy flannel jammie bottoms and an old tank top or sweater, sit down in my recliner and let my mind flow.
Q9): What are the best and hardest parts of writing for you?
Q11): For those who have not read the WOLF TALES series, can you please tell us what the series is about?
Q12) Can you please give us a little information about what the DEMONSLAYER series is all about?
But to answer your question, the premise of the series is that demons are infesting first statuary and then animals on earth as a demon tries to take control. Eddie Marks, a newspaper reporter with a fostered mutt named Bumper (a pit bull/poodle mix) ends up helping a reformed demon turned demon fighter in the battle against the demons. They enlist the aid of some Lemurians, and of course Bumper gets into the fight, especially after Dax the demon hunter’s helpful will ‘o the wisp Willow ends up taking refuge in the dog’s mind when her body gets eaten by the demon king. All the characters from the stories continue to appear throughout the series, so it’s fairly tightly connected. I always suggest that readers start with DemonFire, then HellFire, Crystal Dreams in the Nocturnal anthology, StarFire, and then CrystalFire.
Q13): What can we expect in "CrystalFire", the final story of this series?
While she’s figuring out how her parts work on this much larger scale, Taron is trying to figure out how to handle a gorgeous woman who somehow pushes all the right buttons for him. And then there’s the issue with the demon king who has taken over the body of a dear friend and is intent on finally tipping the balance over to the side of evil.
Taron and Willow don’t realize the extent of the problem—fate has decreed that the two of them will be the champions for both heaven and earth—if they can’t defeat the demon king, the evil of the abyss will win and life as we know it will end. It’s a heavy load for a guy who’s falling head over heels for a gorgeous woman still learning how her parts work. And it’s not much easier on an immortal scholar who’s led a celibate life. And yes, I had way too much fun writing their story!
Q14): You have an eBook series out called DEMON LOVERS. Can you please tell us a little about this series? Do you plan to write more than the three books currently in this series?
Q15): If you could spend the day with any one of your characters, who would you pick and what would you do?
Q16): What has been the biggest surprise in your career?
Kate: That if you have a dream, no matter how impossible it seems, never, ever give up. If I’d quit writing when the tenth or the twentieth rejection came in, I wouldn’t be where I am now. I wanted to write and I wanted that as a career. It didn’t happen until I was 55 years old (I’d been published by small press/epublishers since 1998, but my goal was NY) and I’m 62 now, but I still feel young, my ideas are still flowing, and I know that if I hadn’t stuck with it, hadn’t reached my goal, I would always feel as if something in my life was missing. Stubbornness and determination really can pay off!
Kate: I would love to say a very heartfelt “thank you!” I never realized how much fun my readers would be. Their emails make my day, and I’ve had a chance to get to meet so many of them on our trips around the country. I had no idea how much fun it would be to get to know so many of the men and women who read my books. They are the ones who really make this entire job work, not only because they buy my books, but also because they’ve extended such open and honest friendship. That’s something no one can put a price on.
Book Monster Reviews/LITERAL ADDICTION: Thank you again Katefor taking the time out of your busy schedule to sit down and talk to us. We would love to have you on Book Monster and LITERAL ADDICTION again in the future when you're ready to promote your next release. J
