Q&A Interview and Contest with Cathryn Cade

Cathryn Cade Interview Intro:

Hello everyone!  Book Monster Reviews and LITERAL ADDICTION are happy to have Cathryn Cade with us today!

Cathryn CadeCathryn lives in the Pacific Northwest near the Columbia River and only an hour from the coast and enjoys the standard 3 seasons of the Pacific Northwest – gorgeous spring, long and lazy summer, and… rain.  It’s that season that gets Cathryn indoors to spin a new tale for us fans.

While she lives in the PM, she was born and raised in Montana and grew up in the cowboy culture.  You can see this influence in her sci-fi space captains.  She also adores Hawaii and will be sharing that love of the tropics with us in her new series.

Mostly, Cathryn just gives us red hot romance with action, danger, and laughter thrown in.

She’s the proud creator of the ORION and new HAWAIIAN HEROES series.

ORION has 4 installments – “Tyger, Tyger Burning Bryght”, “Her Commander”, “Prince of Dragons”, and “Deep Indigo”.

Her new HAWAIIAN HEROES series currently consists of “Walking in Fire” which was just released TODAY and which we’re here to help Cathryn promote and celebrate today!

For those of you not yet familiar with Cathryn’s work, we thought we’d give you the synopses for the ORION series books and the new HAWAIIAN HEROES release to get you up to speed:

“Tyger, Tyger Burning Bryght”
 ORION Book #1:

Half -man, half-beast, untamable.except by the one woman born for him. The Orion series As a novice interpreter aboard the space ship Orion, Calla Fellura is in uncharted territory. Especially when it comes to figuring out how to approach the ship's sexy navigator, who seems to have no shortage of willing women vying for his attention. Tryon Jag is an alpha male tyger, one of the few who possess the instincts to guide a ship safely through the deadly Cattarus system. Handsome, wealthy, and of royal blood, Jag controls his universe-and most of the females in it-as easily as he navigates the Orion. But when Jag unexpectedly undergoes his mating shift on board ship instead of safely on his home planet, he must have a woman or go mad with rage and lust. With an eco-saboteur somewhere aboard, there couldn't be a worse time for him to lose his mind. For the sake of duty, Calla forces herself into Jag's lair. And finds herself blossoming into a true Tyger lily, a woman born to enchant a powerful beast. The only woman who can save Jag-and the entire crew-from certain annihilation. Warning: Submitting to a big cat can lead to a tongue-lashing & steamy sex at his command.

“Her Commander”

 ORION Book #2:

She destroyed his resistance. His ship could be next... The Orion, Book 2 As commander of the Orion, self-control is Captain Steve Craig's mantra. He'll do whatever it takes to keep his ship safe from predators, including keeping his romantic liaisons off ship. The women of his crew are strictly off limits-especially those among the lithe, lethal Serpentian Guard. Tessa Alligon is trained to kill with her bare hands, but nothing could prepare her innocent heart for the likes of the iron-willed captain. When she unexpectedly catches him with his barriers down, they share a night that melts the deep-space cold. Craig tells her it was a mistake-their passion must be controlled. But once unleashed, Tessa's sensual nature is not easily cooled. Neither is her thirst for revenge when he insists they have no future together. A future for any of them becomes iffy when they discover there's a saboteur on board. One that could be lurking within the ranks of the Serpentian Guard itself... One that Steve knows may even be Tessa. Warning: Contains love scenes so hot they'll melt the heat shields on your space suit, a heroine willing to die to protect her ship, a hero strong enough to command her heart, and martial arts violence used against dastardly saboteurs.

“Prince of Dragons”

 ORION Book #3:

His beast will have her beauty-but only on his terms. Orion, Book 3 Sirena Blaze has left a string of smiling males across the galaxy-but she's not smiling now. After two attempts to sabotage her ship, it's time to call for backup. Her warriors deserve the best, and that means recruiting a member of the elite Serpentian guard as co-commander. One look at Slyde Stone, and Sirena's smile returns. She sets out to indulge in the sensual delights for which his people are legendary. Slyde would like nothing more than to bed the famous beauty, but a secret binds the hands that burn to take her. He is a half-dragon shifter, a race thought to be nothing more than a myth. He's real, and so is the code he must live by-he can mate only once. Sirena's fury at Slyde's refusal knows no bounds-until saboteurs loose a pair of deadly serpents on board the Orion. And the infuriating man has the gall to make a wager. If she finds them first, she can have him. But if he wins, she must agree to be his alone-for life. Warning: Space cougar on the prowl, a handsome virgin in her sights. Hot love scenes, and even hotter dragon shape-shifting.

“Deep Indigo”

 ORION Book #4:

Commander Daron Navos. Renowned Indigon intuit, respected leader...a man running from half of himself. He can control the mind of any creature in the galaxy, even lock his dark, human sexual needs behind a wall of icy self control. Until he meets a woman who tempts him into using his powers for seduction-the lovely, innocent Nelah Cobalt.
As Nelah's star rose with her burgeoning Indigon powers at university, she leapt at the chance to intern under Navos. But the hero of her fantasies fears her human half is too volatile to be trusted with the coveted position.
When they are forced to combine powers to stop a sabotage attempt, their incredibly intimate mind-meld turns a simple case of post-battle attraction into a night of passion neither thought possible. And, as Navos teaches her to use her powers to heighten sensual pleasure, he finds she isn't the only Indigon with much to learn.
Except it's clear someone is remotely using psychic powers to endanger the ship. Nelah may be the key, and Navos faces his greatest challenge ever-loving the woman who may have to sacrifice herself to save The Orion.

“Walking in Fire”

HAWAIIAN HEROES Book #1:

RELEASED TODAY – 4/10/12

Nawea Bay, a remote Hawaiian paradise, is just the haven Melia Carson needs to escape the chill of heartache. Instead, she finds herself swept up in a tropical heat wave, fueled by her unexpected attraction to a handsome native she meets on a snorkel tour.

He’s big, powerful, hot enough to melt her defenses—and he’s not all he seems. How else could he survive an injury that should have killed him…and why does she dream of him garbed in ancient native dress and wreathed in flames?

David “Malu” Ho’omalu is on the Big Island to find and destroy a cache of dangerous designer drugs before they can be sold to his people. Fending off amorous female tourists is part of the job, but one look in Melia’s blue eyes, and his instincts scream that she is his.

As Melia surrenders to the desire burning between them, she discovers more than a fiery heritage that defies modern logic. She discovers a man who would descend into the molten heart of the volcano to protect his island. And her…if she can find the strength to trust her heart to him.

They sound great, don’t they!?  Let’s get to our interview to learn some more about this great author and her books…

******************************************************************

LITERAL ADDICTION/Book Monster Reviews: Hi Cathryn! Happy Release Day!  We’re very happy to have you here today.  Thank you for entrusting us with helping you to promote “Walking in Fire”.

CATHRYN: :D Thank you very much for hosting me. I'm honored to be here.

LITERAL ADDICTION/Book Monster Reviews: We always like to start out learning more about our guest authors.

Q1): What are 3 things about yourself that we couldn’t find out easily on the Internet?

CATHRYN: I'm a Montana history nut, as my great-granddad Winnett was one of the early settlers in central Montana. Another ancestor built a sandstone mansion in White Sulphur Springs, which is now a museum. My husband and I will be moving back to Montana this summer, to build a house on property near Helena, the capitol city, and raise hay and a few cattle.
And I'll be writing full time, which I'm very excited about!

Q2): What are 3 things that always make you smile?

CATHRYN: New spring babies—the calves are out now. The Hawaiian Pidgin dialect, colorful and fun. And my sons' sense of humor—they crack me up.

Q3): What are some things that you enjoy doing when you’re not writing or taking care of other author business?

CATHRYN: Getting outdoors for a walk, or bike ride, or in our boat in the summer. I love to quilt, and will now have time to do it. I also love to sketch with pencil or pastels. Shopping—can't believe I saved that for last, lol.

Q4): What types of scenes (dialogue, action, sex, etc) do you most enjoy writing and why?

CATHRYN: There's a total high, like an electricity under my skin when my protagonists are playing off of each other verbally, and it works! That's the best feeling in my writing life. When I write love scenes, the same thing. It's about the interaction between two people who are rushing headlong into something that is powerful beyond their understanding. My characters tend to fall into bed and then into love, so there's usually a bit of a battle for power in the relationship.

Q5): If you could describe yourself in 5 words what would they be?

CATHRYN: Compulsive romance reader and writer. Ha! Nailed it.

Q6): What was the last great book that you read?

CATHRYN: Just finished reading Cara and the Draca, by Louisa Kelley. A very fun, fast read, with dragons appearing in Portland, Oregon! There's a
great scene on one of the bridges … but I won't give any spoilers.

Q7): If you could spend the day with any of your characters, who would you want it to be and what would you want to do?

CATHRYN: Hang out with the Ho'omalu ohana, family at Nawea Bay, Hawaii. Snorkel on the reef, work on a tan, have some mai-tais on the beach lanai and listen to Hawaiian music. Ask them lots of questions about what it was like to grown up Hawaiian, and go to college there. The brothers played football for the Rainbow Warriors—did they win games? What did they do on dates?

Q8): Was there any specific inspiration behind the creation of the HAWAIIAN HEROES series besides your love for Hawaii?

CATHRYN: Yes, my wild fantasy life! No matter where I travel, I spin stories. Last spring we visited Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, and saw a magnificent mural featuring the goddess of the volcanoes, Pele, and a gorgeous Hawaiian warrior making an offering to her. Here's a link to it http://bit.ly/FQf0rY. Seeing this mural for the first time on top of an active volcano gave me goose bumps! Being the writer I am, I immediately  unleashed my imagination. What if I were a young single woman and traveled to Hawaii by myself? What if I met a handsome Hawaiian, who turned out to be much, much more than he seemed? And so on … into sexy, volcanic adventure.

Q9): How many books do you have planned for the series?

CATHRYN: So far, three. I'm doing re-writes with my editor on Book 2, and outlining Book 3. They both have plenty of sexy adventure, and some fun twists.

Q9): What can readers expect as the series progresses?

CATHRYN: Hawaiian Heroes is the saga of the Ho'omalu family brothers, David and Daniel, and one of their cousins. It also revolves around three female friends who travel to Hawaii. I can't say more or I'll give away a surprise in Book 2. I will say that Daniel is a big, tough bad-ass dude, and his heroine is going to have a time with him in Book 2.

Q10): What about the ORION series, are there any more books planned?

CATHRYN: I've already begun a paraquel series in the world of Orion, based on Logan Stark, the space magnate owner of The Orion and her sister ships. He's intelligent, ruthless and manipulative. He has soft spots only for his two younger brothers and for his mistress. The action takes place largely on Frontiera, the planet I invented for 'Heart of Steel', and 'Heart of Stone', novellas you can find on my website.

Q11):  What were some of the challenges that you encountered while bringing “Walking in Fire” to life?

CATHRYN: Working to be authentic in portraying Hawaii and the wonderful people. And making paranormal abilities 'real' on the page. We'll see if I did it, huh?

Q12):  Is there a specific book of yours that you’re the most proud of or that you feel may be your favorite, maybe one that has special meaning for you, etc?

CATHRYN: Always the one I'm currently writing. I get so into my characters' worlds, and psyches that I breathe for them. If I don't love them, and feel their joy and pain, I can't write them. I hope I convey that on the page. That said, I  write fast-paced, fun romance. Not trying to change the world, just make it a little happier place to be for a while.

Q13):  What else do you have in the works outside of the new release that you can share with your fans?

CATHRYN: Groan, with me it's more what don't I have in the works. I consider sleep a waste of my writing time these days. But nothing to share quite yet, beyond the Orion paraquel series.

Q14):  What question have you always thought it would be great to be asked in an interview but have never been asked, and how would you answer that question?

CATHRYN: Well, I wish everyone was awestruck by my ability to stay so slim while spending lots of time at a computer, but so far … no one ever asks me how I do that, 'cause … yeah. Enough said.

Q15):  Is there anything special you’d like to say to your readers while we have you here today?

CATHRYN: Yes! Keep reading romance, because from what I'm reading, the quality of writing available just keeps getting better , and there are so many more romance genres—the epublishing phenomenon has blown the old traditional genres wide open. I just read a Steampunk erotic romance!

CATHRYN: Absolutely! Can't think of anyone I'd rather celebrate with. Thank you again for hosting me, and for allowing me to meet all your readers. I know I'll be back to meet other authors here, myself.
