Caridad Piñeiro® is a multi-published and award-winning author whose love of the written word developed when her fifth grade teacher assigned a project – to write a book that would be placed in a class lending library. She has been hooked on writing ever since.From the start, Caridad’s novels have received acclaim and have helped redefine the landscape of modern romance novels. In 1999, Caridad was published by Kensington as part of Encanto, the first line of bilingual Latino romance novels. In 2000, Caridad was one of the first Latino authors featured at the launch of BookExpo America’s Spanish Pavillion. In recognition of her work, Caridad has received various awards and honors. In 2007, a year marked by the debut of six novels from Harlequin and Pocket Books, Caridad received the Golden Apple Award Author of the Year Award from the New York City Chapter of the Romance Writers of America.
Other honors that Caridad has received include the selection of DANGER CALLS and DEATH CALLS as the Top Fantasy Books of 2005 and 2006 by CATALINA magazine, the Cataromance Reviewers Choice Award for Best Nocturne in 2006 and the New Jersey Romance Writers Golden Leaf award in 2001 for Best Short Contemporary. Her other titles have received a number of nominations, such as the Harlequin Readers Choice Awards and RIO Reviewers Choice Awards. Both DANGER CALLS and SEX AND THE SOUTH BEACH CHICAS have been book club selections.
Caridad’s eighteenth novel, MOON FEVER, a paranormal anthology with Maggie Shayne, Susan Sizemore and Lori Handeland, debuted in late September 2007 as #32 on the New York Times Extended Bestseller list and #123 on the USA TODAY Bestseller List. HOLIDAY WITH A VAMPIRE, a paranormal anthology with Maureen Child, made the BookScan Top 100 Adult Fiction list.
In 2009, Caridad debuted a new paranormal romantic suspense series with Grand Central Publishing. The first novel , SINS OF THE FLESH, was released in November 2009 and the second book, STRONGER THAN SIN was released in November 2010.

Caridad was born in Havana, Cuba, and settled in the New York Metropolitan area. She attended Villanova University on a Presidential Scholarship and graduated magna cum laude. There used to be an old commercial for a margarine that ended with the tagline “You can’t fool Mother Nature.”
Looking around at the many things that have happened in recent years, from tsunamis to earthquakes to volcanoes erupting, it’s clear to me that not only can you not fool Mother Nature, you can’t beat her either!
That power in Nature, and my respect for the things around us, was in large part what made me create the Sin Hunters, a race of people who are capable of harnessing the forces of nature around them. The Sin Hunters can tap into so many different things, like the electrical power of lightening to the force of the tides. By doing so, they can direct those forces in all kinds of ways.
The Hunters can also take and give energy to other living things. That allows them to heal or to kill with just their touch. It also lets the Hunters use the energy they absorb to do cool things like shapeshift into the forms from which they’ve just fed.
In THE CLAIMED you get to see the Hunters use all of those powers as two factions who have been mortal enemies find themselves at war. In the midst of that war, Christopher, the leader of the Shadow Hunters, will find himself falling in love with someone unexpected: Victoria Johnson. Why unexpected? Because Victoria is the leader of the Light Hunters, mortal enemies of his people.
I guess you could say THE CLAIMED is a paranormal Romeo and Juliet as Light and Shadow Hunters battle each other, but also try to find a way to let their love survive the challenge of war. THE CLAIMED is action-packed, but also sexy and tender as two enemies explore their love for one another and try to find a way to join their people so they can live in peace.
I also hope that with Earth Day having just passed, you’ll keep Mother Nature in mind. I know I do when I visit the Jersey Shore where THE CLAIMED is set. If I’m walking along the beach and spot some junk, I pick it up to try and keep the beach and ocean free of litter. I also am careful about what I take on the beach with me and always leave with what I bring. This year I’m also hoping to take part in the shore sweeps where people take the time to walk the beach and clean up!

In answer to your question,my kids have inspired me to do much more to help out the environment. We all have reusable water bottles now (instead of buying several cases of water a week), we recycle more than we throw away each week, and I've switched over to "greener" cleaning supplies. In addition, my kids & I help out with a local "Adopt a Road" trash pickup every other month. A few years ago we started gardening, and I made a few rain barrels to catch what little rain we get here in South Texas. I'd love to do more, but still feel like we're helping to make a difference!

We try to teach our children to respect nature and the environment. We are avid recyclers and use many organic products and support local farmers. We also use the new light bulbs as well as cleaners that our more eco-friendly. The gardning supplies we put on our yard are the same way, making sure we do not pollute the soil with chemicals. I hope that there are some guardians out there protecting the earth, she needs it. sdylion(at0gmail(dot)com
