Return Appearance with Toni Lo Tempio

Toni LoTempio Interview Intro:

Hello everyone!  LITERAL ADDICTION and Book Monster Reviews are happy to welcome Toni LoTempio back to our sites today!

Toni has a great bio online, so once again we borrowed it for the Event:
In 1995, I joined the staff of SUSABELLA PASSENGERS AND FRIENDS, where I have been a staff reporter for over 10 years, winning their Margaret Sutton Award for Distinguished Writing in 1998. I joined the staff of NIGHT OWL REVIEWS IN January 2011 as the suspense reviewer/columnist. My column, DARK STREETS, is featured on a monthly basis.

In 2007, Whiskey Creek Press published BOUND BY BLOOD, a tale of possession, and EBONY, which deals with zombies and the dark side of man. EBONY was #2 on the Fictionwise bestseller list for e-books for the month of July 2007, beating out Stephen King’s Lisey’s Story. In 2010 I self published NO REST FOR THE WICCA, which made Amazon’s list of top one hundred in Occult in March 2011, (and has been there for 33 weeks!) and my short story, THE SACRIFICE, appears in the e-published anthology KISS ME KILL ME, and another, a follow up story to NO REST FOR THE WICCA, appears in the anthology EVERY WITCH WAY BUT WICKED.  Proceeds of sales of EWWBW benefit Nathan Fillion’s charity, KIDS NEED TO READ!

Currently single, I work full time and live in Clifton, NJ, with my muses: Rocco, Maxx, Gata and Trixie. Rocco is also known as Rocco the Sci-Fi Blogging Cat and has appeared on the Sci-Fi Saturday Night website and radio show, and also on the Kids Need To Read website where he holds the distinction of being the first (and possibly only!) blogging cat to support this charity.”

We suggest that you check out Toni’s entire Backlist, but for the sake of today’s Event, let’s talk about Toni’s two newest releases:

“Raven’s Quest”
 RAVEN GRACE Book #1.5:

Shapeshifter Raven Grace and her psychic lover, Finn McPhee, are back, traveling to parallel time in search of a demonic klller.

“Demons & Fire”

Vicki Winters didn’t want to move to Ebony Falls with her dad, a powerful warlock, but after her parents divorced her mortal mother found it a bit tough to cope with a daughter who could turn back Time. Things start to look up after she makes a new friend and meets the darkly brooding vampire Alyn Nash, she even gets a job on the local paper. Things go smoothly until she's threatened by a demon after he follows her love advice. And while coping with all that, Vicki makes another startling discovery: she possesses yet another ability that will not only affect her life, but that of those around her. but gaining mastery over it might not be a piece of cake...

They sound great, right!?  You really should track them down at your favorite bookseller, but for now, let’s get to the interview and see what Toni’s been up to since we last spoke with her.

LITERAL ADDICTION/Book Monster Reviews:  Hi Toni!  Welcome back!
TONI: Thank you so much! It’s great to be back!

LITERAL ADDICTION/Book Monster Reviews:  Last time we asked you most of our good ice-breaker questions, but we do have a few more that we’ll throw at you before we get to talking about the 2 new releases…
Q1): If you were told the world would end tomorrow, what would you do in your last 24 hours?
TONI: Oh my gosh! I think I’d try and reread all my favorite books, starting with my Nancy Drew mysteries J

Q2):  If you could spend the day with any of your characters, who would you want to spend it with and what would you want to do?
TONI: Okay, I assume you mean out of the already published characters – I’d like to spend with Raven. She’s got a kick ass attitude and sense of humor that I like.  I would hope we’d spend the day tracking down a demon or two.

Q3):  What are 2 things that always make you smile, and 2 things that never fail to piss you off?
TONI: 2 things that make me smile:  my cats – a kind review on one of my books. 2 things that piss me off:  stupidity in general, and…my cats J

Q4):  If you were asked to describe yourself using just 5 words, what would they be?
TONI: Determined, Devout, Funny, Focused, Intense

Q5):  Was there any specific inspiration that led to the creation of the RAVEN GRACE series?

TONI: I wanted to do something different from the usual vampire, and a female Shapeshifter just seemed right at the time.

Q6):  How many books do you have planned for RAVEN GRACE?
TONI: Originally I had three in mind – but it really depends on fan reaction and where I think I can take the characters next.

Q7):  What were some of the challenges (research, literary, psychological, logistical, etc) in bringing “Demons & Fire” to life?

TONI: Demons and Fire was a labor of love – a sort of tribute to a soap opera I loved growing up, Dark Shadows.  I did some research but it wasn’t’ too extensive. It’s mostly the product of my twisted mind LOL

Q8):  Do you have a follow-up planned for “Demons & Fire” or is this just a single title release?

TONI: I did have a follow up planned. I hope time and my schedule permits me to write it J

Q9):  We heard that there’s a Dark Shadows tie in for “Demons & Fire”.  You’ve hit a big pocket of Dark Shadows fans and people who are incredibly excited for the Burton/Depp masterpiece to come, so we’d love to hear some more about that.

TONI:  the main character in Demons and Fire is named after a Dark shadows character, Victoria Winters. There are many outright and veiled references throughout the book to the soap opera, which I loved as a teen.  Vicki’s boyfriend in DF is a vampire – Alyn Nash.  One of the other character’s is named Maggie Evans, and DS is always referenced. It was my homage.

Q9):  What have been some of the surprises that you’ve encountered during your writing career thus far?
TONI: I think the slowness of the publishing industry in general.  I can see why many authors are turning to self-publishing. Self publishing also allows the author a certain latitude of freedom and the ability to publish works the big houses don’t want to take a chance on (Like Demons and Fire, LOL)

Q10):  What else do you have in works that your readers and fans should know about?
TONI: Well, right now my cat ROCCO who runs his own blog, www.catsbooksmorecats.blogspot.com, is writing a mystery (with my help, of course) and my agent has one of my manuscripts out on submission and there are a few more I need to talk to him about.  If he doesn’t think a publisher would be interested, I’ll be self-pubbing more. A LOT more.

LITERAL ADDICTION/Book Monster Reviews:  Toni, thank you so much for being with us again today – it’s always a pleasure!  Let us know when you’d like to come back to promote the next big release.  Maybe we can get you to do an Author Ambush guest post or character interview next time…  J
TONI:  My pleasure, Chelle! Anytime!  And you can always find out the latest news (and some great author interviews) at ROCCO’s blog, www.catsbooksmorecats.blogspot.com.  We have Charlaine Harris this month, and Jeanine Frost and Victoria Laurie coming soon.

I haven't read you yet but I like that you did something a bit different.
Later this afternoon I'm going to checkout ROCCO's site. I think it's so nice of you as his human mom to make sure he gets published ;). Thank you.
