Q&A Interview and Contest with Tes Hilaire

Tes Hilaire Interview Intro

Hey there Book Monsters! Book Monster Reviews is very pleased to welcome author Tes Hilaire to our sites today.

Daphne Award-winning author and former Tennessee native Tes Hilaire doesn’t remember how old she was when she wrote her first story, but she’s pretty sure it had something to do with a boy and a girl and a happily ever after.  Displaced at an early age to “the north country,” her stories turned darker as she started creating whole new worlds to escape the harsh, upstate NY winters. Now back in the South, her stories remain edgy, exciting, and bring a hint of dark fantasy to paranormal romance. Best of all, no one ever has to shovel snow. For more, visit her website at www.teshilaire.com.

Tes is the creator of the new series PALADIN WARRIORS, which currently consists of one book, "Deliver Me From Darkness".  We definitely recommend you check out this new series.  Book one was great!  You can find out more deets about the first book below.

He had once been a warrior of the Light, one of the revered Paladin. A protector. But now he lives in darkness, and the shadows are his sanctuary. Every day is a struggle to overcome the bloodlust. Especially the day Karissa shows up at his doorstep.
COMES KNOCKING ON THE DOOR
She is light and bright and everything beautiful—despite her scratches and torn clothes. Every creature of the night is after her. So is every male Paladin. Because Karissa is the last female of their kind. But she is his. He may not have a soul, but he can't deny his heart.

Sounds great right!?  It was really a great book so ya'll should definitely grab it.  But before you do, let's get to the interview so we can learn more about Tes and what she has planned for this great new series...

LIVE Chat Reminder - Tes will be chatting with us LIVE over in the LITERAL ADDICTION Chatroom on Wednesday, March 21 from 8:00 - 9:00pm EST.  We hope you can join us!

Tes Hilaire Interview

Book Monster Reviews:  Hi Tes!  Welcome to Book Monster and LITERAL ADDICTION.  Thank you for sitting down to chat with us.  We’re happy to have you with us today!

Tes:  And I’m so happy to be here!

Book Monster Reviews:  We always like to start out by getting to know you a little bit better.

Q1):   Can you tell us 3 things about yourself that we can't find out on the internet, in your bio, etc?

Tes:  I love show-tunes and have the terrible habit of singing them at times when my family least appreciates them. I love the concept of horror movies—but can’t watch them because they make me scared of the dark (not a good thing for a mother of three young children who often get up in the middle of the night). I am not a morning person, yet have to get up at 5:30 every day to get my mini-mes’ ready for school. Not. Fair. ;-)

2)  What are some hobbies and interests you like to do when you're not writing?

Tes:  Besides adding to my towering stack of TBR pile?  I like to quilt, hike and kayak. I also love photography—the old film kind, thank you, though I need to find a new place to purchase and develop my film now! Grrrr.

3)  How long have you been writing and who or what inspired you to start?

Tes:  I began seriously writing about a half-dozen years ago. The birth of my third child inspired me—though it was more a pushed me over the edge kind of inspiration (I had to “get away” from it all). Now that my kids are a bit older, they inspire me in other ways, namely my middle child who’s reminded me of the belief in teddy bear saviors and boogie men in the closet.

4)  If you could have one super power, what power would you want and why that one?

Tes:  To recapture time.  I think to be able to recapture time would come with it the ability to fix anything. Like just now when I allowed my youngest to help get dinner ready and she ended up cutting her finger while peeling potatoes. Sigh.

5)  Can you please tell us about your new PALADIN WARRIORS series?

Tes:  I always find this so hard. It’s difficult to describe something that for me encompasses an entire culture/world, but I’ll try ;-)  To trim things down to the basics, the Paladin are an order of warriors descendant from volunteer angels who came down to this world to fight the evil influence of Lucifer and his minions. I purposely chose to have the Paladin I write about “descendants of” versus actual volunteer angels because I wanted that little bit of imperfectness to them. They’re not immortal, but they do live a really long time (with all the perks too, ageing extremely slowing, speedy healing, really cool powers and all that jazz.) But even with all that jazz, they have their weaknesses, pesky things like human emotions that get in the way of their control and make them desire things beyond the holy tasks of which they’ve been assigned.

6)  What was the inspiration behind this series?

Tes:  Inspiration comes from a lot of different places. For DMFD, it started with Roland’s story, which just begged to be told. I knew from the beginning that I had something special with him, but I also knew the story had to be more than just another vampire story. Thank goodness Logan was there. His character and his relationship with Roland (developed on those first few pages I wrote) is what sent me searching. Without him I would never have stumbled upon the French literary reference called The Song of Roland, and never developed the mythos of the Paladin warrior.

7)   We know the next book "Deliver Me From Temptation" is scheduled to release in December.  Can you tell us who the hero of this book is and maybe a little about what we can expect?
Tes:  Ah, Logan. My sexy, by-the-book Paladin who’s about to have his world turned upside down. Poor guy. Here is a blurb to show what I mean:
As the last full blooded Paladin, and son of their leader, Logan Calhoun III
was raised with a heavy responsibility on his shoulders: earn the right to lead the rest of his brethren, protect the most holy of artifacts, and find a Paladin female to continue the purity of the line. The latter task became impossible with the death of the last Paladin female ninety-four years ago, and Logan knows better than to have anything more than a passing involvement with a human. All they ever do is age and die. Then fate throws in his path a woman who makes him want to forget his duty. Like him she’s a warrior to her people and awakens within him something he’d never thought to feel. But she’s also as human as they come.
Jessica Waters is more than familiar with the evil underbelly of humanity.
As a homicide detective, she sees it day in and day out. Jess doesn’t believe in fate or divine intervention. The world is what you make of it. Her devotion lies in her gun and her trust in a good set of handcuffs. But when one of her investigations draws her into a dark new world, she is forced to confront the unexplainable. She must put her trust in the most unlikely of sources, a man who claims to be a Warrior of God.

8) How many books are planned for the PALADIN WARRIORS series?

Tes:  Deliver Me from Temptation will be released in December of this year. Beyond that, I’ve just put together outlines for the next three books which I hope to get a chance to share with my readers.

9)  What's next for Tes Hilaire?  What do you have planned in the upcoming months outside of the PALADIN WARRIORS series?

Tes: Besides finishing up the last touches on Temptation, I’m going to be doing the conference thing. I’m looking forward to going to the Romantic Times convention and being part of my first major book-signing event! Whoot!  If you’re there, be sure to look me up. I have a surprise for my readers who do ;-)

10)  Is there anything specific you would like to say to the readers out there?

Tes:  You make the difference!  Without readers, us authors wouldn’t be here.  So, if you find a book, series, author you love, please share your excitement! Write a review, tell a friend, share a link, whatever, it all helps to make sure that the books you love will keep on coming!

Book Monster Reviews:  Thank you so much Tes for taking time out of your busy schedule to sit down and talk to us.  We're looking forward to having you back with us on December 10 to celebrate and promote the release of "Deliver Me From Temptation" .
Tes:  Thank you for having me!  I love talking with readers and can’t wait to see you all again in December J

I've had Deliver Me From Darkness on my TBR shelf for a while now. The Paladin warrior idea is unique and that is always something I'm looking for in books.

Hello All! And thanks for the warm welcome. I'm so glad when readers find Deliver Me from Darkness :-) I'll be on and off throughout the day so feel free to ask any questions you may have about me or the Paladin warrior series. Also, don't forget to stop in at the chat tonight as I will be giving away more copies of Deliver Me (That's like, mega-chances to win today!)

Jennifer - Hi there! Logan is yummy, isn't he ;-) As far as con's go, I'll most likely be going to RWA, though I'm still in the process of finalizing my plans. Beyond that I'm going to have to stay more local to NC, so if you're in the general area, and you know of a good con, let me know and I'll check it out!

Mirela - Yes, this contest is international (as long as its someplace I can get USPS to deliver!)
