Q&A Interview and Contest with Eliza Gayle

Eliza Gayle Interview Intro

Hello Book Monsters and Literal Addicts! Book Monster Reviews and LITERAL ADDICTION are very pleased to welcome Eliza Gayle to our sites today.

Eliza Gayle lives a life full of sexy shapeshifters, blood boiling vamps and a dark desire for bondage…until she steps away from her computer and has to tend to her family.

She graduated Magna Cum Laude (which her husband translated into something very naughty) from Park University with a dual degree in Human Resource Management and Sociology.  That education, a love of the metaphysical and a dirty mind comes in handy when she sits down to create new characters and worlds.  The trick is getting her to sit still.

…Join her in her world.  The door is always open and the next red hot adventure is just a page away.

Now we'll give you a rundown of a few of the series and her newest releases…

Book 1 - Lucas
Book 2 - Kane
Book 3 - Malcolm

Kira MacDonald is in trouble. Plagued by false visions and erotic dreams of a man she’s never met, she fears losing both her psychic powers and her sanity. The cure? Finding and bonding with her mate. The stubborn red-haired warrior might not want one, but fate has other plans, plans that include her rescuing Lucas Gunn.

As the Guardian of his shape-shifting clan, Lucas Gunn lived a quiet, solitary life. Until he was kidnapped, examined, and tortured. Now imprisoned, his only tie to the outside world is the memory of his dreams and the passionate woman who appears nightly in them. He thought she was nothing more than a vision. Then she came for him.

An uneasy alliance, a mating call that won’t be denied, rituals that must be honored, and unrelenting enemies who will stop at nothing to get what they want. It all comes together in the first of Eliza Gayle’s sensational Black Cougar Series. Passion and Pride. Duty and Danger. In the end, there’s really only one choice…for Lucas.

He can run be he can’t hide. Not from duty. Not from danger. And especially not from the woman who forces him to face the truth.

Malcolm Gunn’s time is running out along with his ability to shift. When confronted with his past he thinks he’s found a solution. With the help of a little rope, he can let nature takes its course. Unfortunately the woman who is the key to his existence harbors a powerful secret that will destroy them both.

Cheyenne’s been hired to track and retrieve Malcolm at any cost. Her only plan is to get in, get out and keep her sanity intact. In that order. But she’s been warned…If he catches her, he will stake his claim whether she is willing or not.

Deceit and lies bring them together. Murder puts them on the run. Their enemies are closing in and there’s only one, irreversible way out. Some choices can never be forgiven and one man’s anger can destroy it all…Malcolm.

WOW!  They sound amazing don't they?!  And that's not even half of Eliza's books!  Now, let's get to the interview so we can find out more about Eliza and what she has coming up next……

Eliza Gayle Interview

Book Monster Reviews/LITERAL ADDICTION:  Hi Eliza!  Welcome to Book Monster and LITERAL ADDICTION!  We’re very excited to have you with us today!  Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to drop by and spend some time with us!
Eliza: Oh goodness thank you so much for having me, it is my pleasure.

Book Monster Reviews/LITERAL ADDICTION:  We like to start out getting to know our guest authors a little bit better?
Q1):   Can you tell us 3 little known things about yourself that we can't find out easily on the internet, in your bio, etc?
Eliza: Hmm. Let’s see. I lived one summer with a Carnival in a foreign country, I’m an expert marksman, and have a tiny obsession with things that glitter.

2)  What inspired you to become a writer?  How long have you been writing for?

Eliza: I think the fact I’ve been reading romance for as long as I can remember was my biggest inspiration. That, and the fact that I often used to come home after the movies and write sequels for movies that left me hanging. J I’ve been seriously writing for publication since 2006.

3)  How long did it take to get your first book published?

Eliza: I wrote my first book in the spring and summer of 2006 and promptly hid that away.(That first book actually ended up being my 15th published and was the first in my Black Cougar series) I then wrote my second story in the fall of 2006 and started submitting it right away. From submission to acceptance of that first story I think was about 4 months. (I was really really lucky.)

4)  As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?

Eliza: I grew up near the Kennedy Space Center, so I often thought about being an astronaut. My stepdad was a fireman and I always thought that was a cool job. Honestly, I was pretty fickle as a child and changed my mind A LOT! It wasn’t until I joined the Marine Corps that I finally gave some serious thought to my future career.

5)  If you could list 3 things that never fail to make you smile, what would they be?

Eliza: My kids. Teenagers are pretty funny. Pictures of big kitties. Can’t get enough of them. Damn You Auto Correct. Actually reading those usually make me laugh until I cry and are guaranteed to turn a bad mood around.

6)  Do you have a writing routine, i.e certain things you must have with you for the process to begin, etc?
Eliza: I don’t have as strict a routine as I’d like. I do love structure. I know which writing hours are usually the most productive and try to get the bulk of my writing done at that time. (10am - 4pm) And if I turn on some movie soundtracks and a timer I will get a lot more done. That’s about as routine as I get.

7)  If you were to write an auto-biography, what do you think it’d be called?
Eliza: I’ve actually thought of this many times. My Marine Corps years would be uhm… quite interesting. I’d call it “The Fewest of the Few”

8)  If you could have any super power, what would you want it to be and why?

Eliza: I want to be like the guy in the movie Jumper. Jump from place to place any time I want. I love traveling and going new places but don’t love the process of flying or long boring drives.

9) What are some of your favorite television shows and movies?

Eliza: I am a TV and movie junkie so there are MANY! I’ll list some of the most recent but there are lots more. For television some of my current faves are The Walking Dead, Supernatural, Once Upon A Time, Two Broke Girls, Justified, Lost Girl, True Blood, and Restaurant Impossible. How’s that for eclectic?
As for movies I tend towards action and comedy. Last summer was an amazing adventure ride and I think I was at the theater every single week. Right now I can’t wait for The Avengers, Snow White and the Huntsman and I’ll see The Hunger Games this weekend.

10)  Who are some of your favorite authors, and what are a couple titles in  your TBR pile right now?

Eliza: Oh I was just organizing some of my TBR in Calibre last night. Let’s not discuss how many hundreds of books I own that I haven’t had time to read yet. Lol There are so many authors I enjoy reading the list could go on for days. Shayla Black, Shannon McKenna and Lisa Marie Rice are just a few must reads for me. I’ve recently started reading Patricia Briggs and I’m hooked. I’m currently reading and enjoying the Mari Carr Irish series, I’m anxious to catch up on Sophie Oak’s Bliss series and I hope to start Bella Andre’s Sullivan series soon.

11)  Out of all the books that you’ve written, do you have a favorite amongst them; maybe one that has special sentimental value to you, etc?

Eliza: There was probably a favorite when I had 10 or less books published but now there are too many to love. I can say unequivocally that I love writing series. Once I start writing in a certain world I can’t seem to leave it.

12)  You write in several genres of romance.  What’s your favorite amongst them and why?  Which is the most challenging and why?

Eliza: I enjoy the different genres I write equally. It’s necessary for my peace of mind to write more than one genre to keep things fresh. My attention span is a challenge so being able to rotate between contemporary BDSM romance and paranormal romance solves that problem. Both genres have their challenges and their joys.

Book Monster Reviews/ LITERAL ADDICTION:  O.K, now we'd like to ask some questions relating to the books…

13)  Can you please tell us a little about the BLACK COUGAR series? Do you plan to write any more books for this series?

Eliza: The Black Cougar series was inspired by a Native American legend that said black cougars (which supposedly don’t really exist) represent death. From there I created a trilogy of three alpha male shifters responsible for the safety of their clan, including the deaths, and what happens when they face the challenge of their lives—mating.
It really was supposed to end at three books but as I mentioned, I love a good series and the 3rd book does include a couple of avenues for future books. One of them is Bad Kitty, my current work in progress. Readers will find out what happens to the villain’s not so lily white daughter when she’s exiled from the clan.

14)  Can you please tell us more about the PENTACLES OF MAGICK series? Do you have anything else planned for this series?

Eliza: I have a real soft spot for witches. Love writing them. The Pentacles of Magick series is the unfolding story of four alpha male witches (yes, they really are not warlocks. There is a difference) who are bound by magick and a dark curse destined to destroy their souls. When the women they’ve been taught to fear enters their lives, the brothers are forced to face the truth of their past. It was a fun quest to write and as it stands now the 4 book series is complete.

15)  How about your PLEASURE PLAYGROUND series?  Can you tell us a little about this series and what you have planned for it?

Eliza: I loved the idea of the Pleasure Playground when I came up with it. It is the kind of place I wish I could go to but as far as I know it doesn’t exist. I wrote Midnight Playground with the intention of it being a stand alone but the heroine owned this big old building that needed to be restored. That got me thinking that it would be fun to have a place that combined business, shopping, restaurants and living spaces that catered to the alternative crowd. So I turned it into a series and each book will reveal one new facet of the Playground as it’s being restored. So far we have an erotic photo studio/art gallery with a unique dark room for sensation play. We also have a BDSM jewelry store about to open and a rooftop restaurant in progress that will include some unique outdoor play experiences. The hero from the second book, Power Play, is our restoration contractor and he’s got some great ideas to expand this space into the ultimate kinky haven. I’ve clearly got some writing to do.

16)  Lastly (but certainly not least), can you please tell us some more about the PURGATORY series?  How many books in store for this one and what can we look forward to?

Eliza: The Purgatory series is a series of short stories that all take place in some part at The Purgatory BDSM club and each focus on a different fetish. So far there has been bondage, exhibitionism, flogging, and fire play. I have ideas for many more and how far I go will depend on readers and if they want me to continue. I think wax sounds like a fun way to go next. ;) This series was inspired by a local to me goth/fetish show that was discontinued a few years ago and then recently brought back. Last year I received a fetish community award at a local convention for this series.

17)  What's next for Eliza Gayle?  What do you have planned in the upcoming months, outside of the series we just spoke about?

Eliza: Next week will be the release of Vampire Awakening. I haven’t done a lot of vampires thus far but this story is one of my favorites. Have you seen the cover? I love it so much I had to make posters. I’m tempted to paper my office wall with them. *g*
Bad Kitty is my next shifter book and is in progress. I’ve also got a new witch book that is partially written that I am anxious to finish.
Beyond that I’ll be writing those series books. I’ve pretty much got the next few years planned with hopefully a few surprises thrown in here and there.

18)  If you could spend the day with one of the characters from any of the books you’ve written, who would you want it to be, why, and what would you want to do?

Eliza: I think I’d like to hang out with Nissa from Slave to Pleasure. I have a healthy obsession with all things fae and I think it would be fun to spend a day in her world. I’ve always wanted to learn how to use a sword. ;)

18)  What have you always wanted to be asked in an interview but have never been asked?  How would you answer that question?

Eliza: I honestly can’t think of any burning unasked questions.

20)  Is there anything specific you would like to say to your readers while we have you here today?

Eliza: I can never say thank you too much to the readers who have supported me in this amazing venture. Without them I wouldn’t have the options to continue writing more and more indepth stories as my job. J

Book Monster Reviews/LITERAL ADDICTION:  Eliza, Thank you again for taking time out of your busy schedule to answer our questions today!  We would love to have you back on BMR/LA again in the future. J

Eliza: Thank you so much for having me! It’s been a fun experience and I can’t wait to do it again.
