Q&A Interview and Contest with Emma Holly

Emma Holly Interview Intro:

Hello everyone!  LITERAL ADDICTION and Book Monster Reviews are very happy to welcome Emma Holly to our sites today!
Emma is the USA Today bestselling author of more than thirty VERY hot romantic novels featuring werewolves, vampires, fae, and just plain ordinary folk.  Outside of writing, her favorite things are reading, coffee, long daydreamy walks, and whatever show she’s currently infatuated with on TV – not necessarily in that order.  She loves sinking into the worlds of her stories and hopes that you do too!
Emma is the proud creator of the HIDDEN, BEYOND DUET, MIDNIGHT and TALE OF THE DEMON WORLD series, as well as numerous wonderful single titles (see her entire backlist HERE).
Her two newest releases, “Move Me” and “The Faerie’s Honeymoon”, were just dropped on December 10, 2011 and January 11, 2012 respectively and we’re here today to help her promote and celebrate.
For those of you not yet familiar with Emma’s work, we thought we’d give you the synopses of several books to get you up to speed.  Because her library of literary excellence is so extensive, we needed to limit the synopses we provided to save on space and time.  Therefore, we gave you the 1st and last in each of the series noted above, as well as her 2 newest releases:

“Hidden Talents”
 HIDDEN Book #1:
Resurrection, NY is America’s only supernatural friendly town, built on an outfolded pocket of Faerie. Werewolf cop Adam Santini is sworn to protect and serve all of Resurrection’s races - including unsuspecting human Talents who wander in from Outside.

Ari stumbles into Adam’s town from the Big Apple. She’s hot on the trail of a mysterious crime boss who wants to exploit her telekinesis for his own evil ends. If she can’t get Henry Blackwater off her back, she and her two most trusted friends in the world had better kiss the decent life they’ve built for themselves goodbye.

Ari’s mission puts her on a collision course with the hottest cop in the RPD. Adam wants Blackwater too, but mostly he wants Ari. She seems to be the mate he’s been yearning for all his life, though getting a former street kid into bed with the Law could be his toughest case to date.

When biology knocks boots with justice, more than bad guys go up flames.

“Date Night”
 HIDDEN Book #2.5:

Olivia Forster never dreamed she’d serve as queen of an enchanted city beneath the sea, something her three sexy husbands know. Though she adores her shapeshifter mates, she’s shy by nature, and they can tell the strain of always being “on” is beginning to wear on her. Sneaking away from their responsibilities won’t be easy, but come hell or high water, they’ll treat her to a night she won’t soon forget!

“Beyond Innocence”

Emma Holly turns up the heat in this sinfully sensuous story of a family plagued by scandal-and a shy young woman who discovers a passion beyond her wildest dreams.

“Beyond Seduction”

To avoid marriage, Merry Vance has concocted a sinfully scandalous scheme: to pose for Nicolas Craven, London's most sought-after artist. No man in his right mind would marry a woman who posed nude for this notorious rogue.

But Nicolas has his own plans for the fiesty young woman. And Merry has no idea how hot it can get in an artist's studio.

“Catching Midnight”
MIDNIGHT full length Book #1, story #2:

In the Scottish wood, a clan of immortal shape-shifting wolves takes in an orphan girl, Gillian, as one of their own. But when she matures into a beautiful woman and falls for a mere mortal, her forest family and new lover are plunged into a fiery, passionate struggle to claim Gillian's heart, body, and soul...

“Angel at Dawn”
MIDNIGHT series #10:

Five hundred years ago, Grace Gladwell had captured Christian Durand's heart and then abandoned him in his darkest hour. Seeing Grace again after all these years has sent Christian reeling-even though she seems to remember nothing of the medieval soldier, he wants her more than ever. But is Grace merely a pawn of the vampire queen who has set her immortal sights on Christian?

“The Demon’s Daughter”

Emma Holly, known for her fusion of erotica and the paranormal, brings both to a richly invented new world, the Aedlyne Empire under Victoria. Here the Queen has struck a devil's bargain, allowing the silver-eyed demons known as the Yamish to settle in her slums in exchange for sharing their superior technology. Only later does she find out the secret of the Yamish's unnatural strength -- the drinking of human energy or lifeforce. In the fog-shrouded slums of Avvar, it falls to police officers like Inspector Adrian Philips, enhanced with special Yamish implants, to guard the populace against the hungry demons. The love story begins as an injured Adrian tumbles into the garden of the artist Roxanne, the bastard daughter of a famous singer, and, we find out later, also the daughter of one of the prominent demons. In this highly stratified society, liaisons between classes are illicit. Even as Adrian is fired because of their passionate affair, an enemy of Roxanne's father is determined to trap her and achieve the ultimate satisfaction.

“The Assassins’ Lover”

Katsu Shinobi isn’t your ordinary princess. For one thing, she’s a Yama, a member of a supposedly demonic race Humans discovered living secretly among them forty years ago. For another, Kat doesn’t subscribe to the icy-hearted principles most royals swear by. She wants to live life—maybe not as recklessly as Humans but as fully as she dares.
Accustomed to sharing women, demon assassins Ciran and Hattori introduce Kat to the pleasures of an intense ménage. Neither expects to lose their heart to her, or that Kat's enemies will one day hire them to kill her.
Their bid for freedom will pit them against the icy dangers of diamond lands and the alien comforts of a Victorianesque Human world. Most of all, though, this daring trio will need to conquer the threat within. Only when they put all their faith in love will they find happiness together.

“Move Me”
(part of the HIDDEN series):

Belle's eccentric Uncle Lucky has left her his spooky house in the tiny village of Kingaken. Twenty years ago, her little brother disappeared here, never to be heard from again. Returning to the place for the first time in so long resurrects more ghosts than she cares to face. When it also summons a sexy faerie, with an agenda of his own, Belle had best pray her luck is better than her sibling’s.

“The Faerie’s Honeymoon”
(a companion story to “Move Me”):

Duvall of Talfryn adores his new human bride. She’s smart, she’s sexy, and they love each other - flaws and all. The half-magic city of Resurrection seems ideal for a honeymoon. It’s less dangerous than Faerie, and Belle can get her first real glimpse of his fae nature.

Problem is, Belle gets a glimpse of more than he counted on. Will this down-to-earth junkshop owner decide an entitled prince of enchantments isn’t who she signed on to wed? Can Duvall overcome his pride and bare his true heart to her?

Only a honeymoon fit for a faerie can settle this conundrum.

Well, we’re fairly certain that was enough to peak your interest and get you frantically checking your favorite bookseller for purchase information, but we have more for you.  What do you say we get to the Interview and learn some more about Emma and her books?

Emma Holly Interview

LITERAL ADDICTION/Book Monster Reviews:  Hi Emma!  We’re very happy to have you here today.  Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to chat with us.
EMMA: Hi, Chelle & Carla! Thanks for inviting me.

LITERAL ADDICTION/Book Monster Reviews:  We always start by getting to know our guest author a little bit better.

Q1): Can you tell us 3 things about yourself that we couldn’t find out easily on the Internet?
EMMA: Um, if you can’t find it easily, it may be that I don’t want people to know *g*. I once told a blogmistress it was my ambition to be the Greta Garbo of erotic romance: fascinating yet close-mouthed.

Q2):  What are 3 things that always make you smile?
EMMA: kittens, waking up to snow on the ground or sunshine, turning on HGTV and discovering Income Property is on. Love that Scott McGillivray!

Q3):  If you could spend the day with any of your characters, who would you want it to be and what would you want to do?
EMMA: I’d love a tour of Resurrection, the half-magic city I invented for my HIDDEN series. And maybe I’d want Grant the gargoyle to take me around, since he’s big and protective and some of the stuff there is dangerous! Also, I suspect he knows all the good gossip.

Q4):  What are some of your hobbies and/or things that you enjoy doing when you’re not writing or taking care of other author business?

EMMA: Right now, I’m very into designing my book covers. I love trawling the stock photo sites for evocative pictures and then playing with layout and type. It’s become part of my creative process. When I have the cover, I know I can write the story.

Q5):  Is there a book in your backlist so far that happens to be your personal favorite, or maybe one that has extra special meaning for you, etc?

EMMA: The Fitz Clare trilogy vampire books (Kissing, Breaking & Saving Midnight) are probably the stories I’m proudest of pulling off. I loved the research and spinning out the family’s story across the books. Knowing I created those adventures and emotions and that group of people makes me feel I’ve really grown since I started writing. Whenever I wish someone would turn some of my books into a TV series, those are the stories I think of.

Q6):  We know this is a tough question, but who are a few of your personal favorite authors, and what are a couple titles in your TBR pile/list right now?
EMMA: J.D. Robb and Charlaine Harris are my biggest must-reads. My TBR pile right now is research for my next book.

Q7):  What are the best and worst parts of writing for you?

EMMA: The best is finishing something I’m proud of - whether it’s a single scene or a whole book. The worst usually involves the competitive aspects of publishing.

Q8):  What is a typical writing day like for you?  Do you have a routine that you follow?  Are there specific things that you have to have with you to get the creative juices flowing, etc?
EMMA: My day generally goes like this: Coffee, write, coffee, write. Walk in fresh air. Edit.

Q9):  What type of scenes (dialogue, action, sex, etc) do you enjoy writing the most and why?
EMMA: Scenes that brings out the characters’ emotions are especially rewarding to me, but they can any kind. I like knowing I’m going to be making my readers feel things.

Q10):  Can you tell us a little bit more about your two new releases in your own words?

EMMA: The short version is: Pragmatic human woman falls for sexy faerie disguised as handyman. When I finished MOVE ME, which tells how Belle and Duvall fall in love in “our” world, I realized there was a chunk of their relationship development that didn’t fit the plot I’d constructed, but that I still wanted to tell. THE FAERIE’S HONEYMOON came out of that. I enjoyed sending the newlyweds to Resurrection, letting Belle discover her faerie husband’s other side, letting Duvall realize what it was about Belle’s humanity that he valued so much. Because I doubt I could have been as spontaneous about what to write next if I weren’t indie publishing, putting out this double story was extra fun for me.

Q11):  How many books do you have planned for the HIDDEN series and/or its spin-offs?
EMMA: There is no plan! And no deadlines. And no word count limit. One of the joys of being indie is being able to let stories develop organically. The world I’ve created for the HIDDEN series feels very rich to me - a lot of creatures, a lot of corners to explore - so I expect it could keep me happily occupied for some time.

Q12):  What can we expect as each of the series progress?
EMMA: LOL. Expect the unexpected. I’m learning not to make predictions on where my imagination will take me next.

Q13):  What about your other series; any plans to write more for BEYOND, MIDNIGHT or TALE OF THE DEMON WORLD?
EMMA: The Beyond series: no. The Midnight series: probably not, because I’m kind of burned out on vampires. The Demon World series: possibly, but I can’t predict when.

Q14):  What’s next for Emma Holly?  What do you have going on in the next couple months that your readers might be interested in?

EMMA: Right now, I’m in the stage that’s most boring to readers. I’m doing research and am too early in the wool-gathering process to give details about what I think I’ll be writing.

Q15):  Is there anything special that you’d like to say to your readers while we have you here today?

EMMA: Thanks so much for supporting me over the years. It’s truly a gift to be able to make a living doing what I love.

LITERAL ADDICTION/Book Monster Reviews:  Emma, thank you so much again for being with us today.  We’re very happy to help you promote both of your new releases and turn some new readers on to your entire backlist.  We’d love to have you back to help celebrate your next big release if you’re interested.
EMMA: Thank you!

I'm most intrigued by the half-magic city! I'm definitely going to check out that book. I've liked magic in the bks I read (love fantasy romance!).

I've always wondered how involved authors are in deciding or designing their book covers. How fun to do your own!

I too recently discovered Emma Holly by reading The Night Owl in "HOT BLOODED", 2004 (with Christine Feehan, Angela Knight and Maggie Shayne). It definitely got me HOT. I immediately looked up her books about the Upyr on Amazon and bought them all. I just started reading Catching Midnight the other night. When I finish what she has in that group I will move onto the Tales of the Demon World. Emma is a fantastic writer. She's like the Stephen King of the paranormal romance world.
