Q&A Interview and Contest with Katie Reus

Katie Reus Interview Intro

Happy Hump Day!!  Book Monster Reviews and LITERAL ADDICTION are very pleased to welcome author Katie Reus to our sites today.

Katie fell in love with romance at a young age thanks to books she pilfered from her mom’s stash. Years later she loves reading romance almost as much as she loves writing it. However, she didn’t always know she wanted to be a writer. After graduating summa cum laude with a degree in psychology and working too many jobs she hated, she finally figured things out.

She now spends her days writing dark paranormal romance and sexy romantic suspense. Her publishers include Carina Press, Harlequin Nocturne, Ellora’s Cave and in early 2012 the first book in her new paranormal series will release from NAL/Signet Eclipse (Penguin).  Katie also writes erotic romance across many genres including: romantic suspense, contemporary, paranormal, and futuristic romance under the pen name Savannah Stuart.  Regardless of genre or the name she writes under, she always includes a happy ending. When she’s not creating stories she loves spending time with her husband, family and the eclectic group of animals they’ve adopted.

Katie is the creator of the new paranormal romance novel, "Alpha Instinct", which is the first book in her new MOON SHIFTER series.  "Alpha Instinct" was just released yesterday and we have the pleasure of helping Katie promote it today.  In case you are not yet familiar with Katie's books, here's a summary of the first book in this great new series and her latest romantic suspense novel:

Fear has a scent. So does desire…

Ana Cordona has been a strong leader for the lupine shifters who survived after all the males and most of the females in her pack were mysteriously poisoned. As tough as she is, with no Alpha male, the pack is vulnerable to the devious shifter Taggart, who wants to claim both their ranch and Ana as his own. When Connor Armstrong comes back into her life, promising protection, it’s almost enough to make Ana forget how he walked out on her before—and reluctantly accept his offer to mate.
The minute Connor sees Ana again, it reawakens a raw hunger. He must have her for his bondmate—his wolf cries out for it. But his human side knows he must proceed with caution because of their complicated past. If he is to truly have her body and soul, he must go beyond his burning desire and win back her heart. Whatever it takes, he is determined not to leave her side again.

But Taggart and his rival pack are not their only enemies. A human element in town is targeting shifters. Their plan not only threatens Ana and Connor’s future, but the lives of the entire pack…

She’s finally moving on with her life when he resurfaces, just in time to rescue her from a would-be assassin. Forced to join him on the run to protect herself and her young son, Alexis is now in even more danger: danger of falling for Hunter all over again.
Betrayed by rogue CIA agents after infiltrating an infamous drug cartel, former DEA agent Hunter Cassidy has spent years trying to clear his name. He’s not proud of the things he’s done, and knows he doesn’t deserve a future with Alexis, or the son he never knew he had, but he’s determined to protect them from the men who ruined his life. Convincing Alexis to trust him—and denying his feelings for her—is going to be the hardest mission he’s ever faced.

They sounds amazing don't they!?  Well, now that you're a little more familiar with Katie's newest releases, let's see what else we can learn about Katie in the interview…..

Katie Reus Interview

Book Monster Reviews/LITERAL ADDICTION:  Hi Katie!  Welcome to Book Monster and LITERAL ADDICTION!!  Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to drop by and spend some time with us.  We’re so happy to help you promote your new book and series today.

Katie:  Thank you so much for having me here! I’m very excited to chat about Alpha Instinct and the Moon Shifter series!

Book Monster Reviews/LITERAL ADDICTION:  We’d like to start out by getting to know you a little bit better.

Q1):   Can you tell us 3 things about yourself that we can't find out on the internet, in your bio, etc?

Katie:  Hmm, first, my husband proposed to me on our third date and we’ve been together almost 8 years. Second, the first dog I ever owned was a Siberian husky and third, I have a slight coffee addiction. I need a few cups in the morning or I’m grouchy (the last one might not be a secret!).

2)  What do you love to do when you're not writing?  Do you have any special hobbies or interests?

Katie:  I love reading! I also love the beach and traveling. I don’t get to travel as much as I used to (not with a little baby in the house) but my husband and I try as much as we can. I would also really love to learn how to quilt. My mother in law makes beautiful quilts and it’s something I hope to learn in the next couple years.

3)  Who are some of your favorite authors and what books are in your TBR list?

Katie:  I’m a big fan of Linda Howard’s stuff, though I’ll admit I haven’t read her newer stuff. I’m talking All the Queens Men and Mr. Perfect. Love those books! I’m also a big fan of Lisa Marie Rice, Cynthia Eden, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Nalini Singh, JR Ward, Kaylea Cross, and Jeanine Frost. In my immediate TBR list I’ve got How to Dance With a Duke by Manda Collins and The Help by Kathryn Stockett. But my Kindle is packed full of maybe…50 books I still need to get to! Probably more.

4)  What are some of your favorite TV shows and movies?
Katie:  I love all the Underworld movies, including the most recent one. It almost had a different tone than the others and I enjoyed that the paranormal beings had been revealed to humans (though not what happened to them, of course). I also love the Bourne movies. As far as shows, I watch Psych, Grimm, Fringe, Supernatural, Vampire Diaries, True Blood and Castle.

5)  What is the most challenging part of writing for you?

Katie:  That actually depends on the story. Sometimes it’s a certain character that’s challenging or sometimes it’s trying to make sure certain plot points all flow together seamlessly. The story makes all the difference. I can fly through a 100K novel in a month or two, but struggle with a 25K novella because of the characters.

6)  Can you please tell us about the MOON SHIFTER series?  What is the series about and what can we expect as it progresses?

Katie: Some basic history on the Moon Shifter world—Twenty years ago the various shifter Councils around the globe united and decided to reveal their existence (along with other supernatural beings) to humans. Mankind now knows they've been living alongside those who can shift into animal form and some who must drink blood to survive. Even though two decades have passed since their big reveal, it has given ignorant humans time to gather numbers and strength for their cause against shifters and vampires, beings they fear simply because they are different.
The series is about two separate packs of shifters who, almost immediately at the start of Alpha Instinct, unite and form one pack—the Armstrong-Cordona pack. Ana and Connor are the two main characters in Alpha Instinct. They have a history together, which is a theme I absolutely love in romance. Ana doesn't know why Connor left her fifty years ago so this romance starts off with a lot of tension between them.

As far as the overall series, in the first book they pack is dealing with not only a psycho neighbor (another shifter who is a real bastard) who wants their land and Ana, but they’re facing an unknown enemy who is mysteriously poisoning members of their pack. Add to that a new group of supremacist types called the Antiparanormal League who want to cause trouble for their pack and they have a lot of issues to deal with. However, in the second and third books, their main conflict is the Antiparanormal League and trying to find a way to live in harmony with the humans who know about them.

7)  What was your inspiration behind the MOON SHIFTER series ?

Katie:  There wasn’t just one thing. I discovered paranormal romance really late (only a few years ago). And urban fantasy? What was that? For me, romantic suspense was the genre that really introduced me to romance. Only later did I realize there was a LOT more out there and I’m so glad I did. A few years ago I discovered a couple different vampire series’ and became hooked on the world building (I love Sherrilyn Kenyon!). Even though I adore vampires I’ve always had a love for shifters and werewolves so I wasn’t really surprised when the Moon Shifter series was born. Though at the time, I hadn’t planned an entire series and I wasn’t even working on Alpha Instinct full time when I first started it. It was just this fun project I worked on in between other projects and ironically it’s the story (series) my agent and I sold to New York.

8)  What's coming up next in the MOON SHIFTER series and when is the next book scheduled to release?

Katie: The next book, Primal Possession, is coming out in September 2012 and the third book (still untitled) is set to release around March 2013. Primal Possession features Liam and December, both introduced in book one. Liam is Connor’s brother and December is a human who knocks him off his feet the first time they meet (which is actually in book 1). The third book will feature a woman who plays a small role in Alpha Instinct and a male who is only mentioned but not introduced until Primal Possession. Also, I have a novella releasing in August of this year titled Lover’s Instinct. I’m really excited about it and while I haven’t posted any details about the novella on my website yet, I plan to very soon.

9)  What are some other projects you have in the works?

Katie:  Currently I’m working on a paranormal novella I’m hoping to submit to my editor with Harlequin Nocturne Cravings and a category length romantic suspense I plan to self publish in the spring. After that…well, it just depends if NAL wants me to continue the Moon Shifter series. I’ve turned in my proposal for the fourth book in the series so I’m definitely hopeful that they’ll want more. If not, I have more than a handful of story ideas running around in my head J

10)  Is there anything specific you would like to say to your readers?

Katie:  Thank you so much for reading my books! Every time I get an email from a reader I’m floored that someone took the time out of their day to tell me how much they liked one of my stories. It constantly amazes me and I’m very grateful for all your support.

Book Monster Reviews/LITERAL ADDICTION:  Katie, again, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedule to sit down and talk with us.  We'd love to have you back on Book Monster and LITERAL ADDICTION again in the future when you're ready to promote your next release.

Katie: Thank you so much for having me! I’ll hang out anytime you guys want J
