Elise Marion Intro

Hello Book Monsters and Literal Addicts!  Book Monster Reviews and LITERAL ADDICTION are very pleased to welcome author Elise Marion to our sites today.

Elise is an indie author that writes historical and paranormal romance novels.  So you can get to know Elise a little better, we pasted her bio from her website here.  Please meet Elise…..

I'm Elise, a lover of all things romance. I picked up my first romance novel when I was in high school and have been reading and writing it ever since.

I love the world of historicals starring feisty heroines. I love dark paranormals featuring brooding other-worldly heroes. I love writing stories about love conquering all.

I love writing characters that people can fall in love with. Pick up one of my books, and maybe you'll fall in love too. Check out the different pages on my site for all of my releases, new and upcoming. Happy Reading,

We are helping Elise promote her newest historical romance book, "The Third Son" today.  If you are not yet familiar with her books, here are the book synopses to get you more acquainted…

"The Third Son"

Rake. Rogue. Scoundrel. Each of these words has been used to describe Damien Largess, youngest prince of Cardenas, most frequently by his ridiculously somber eldest brother. Damien is perfectly content to spend his days drinking at the card tables, and his nights in the bed of his scheming mistress, especially since doing these things seems to vex his high-handed brother to no end. But when he steps into a glittering ballroom on the night of his twenty-fifth birthday, the roguish young prince’s life will be forever changed.

Beautiful. Graceful. Sensual. When Esmeralda steps into the center of the King’s ballroom to perform for his youngest son’s birthday, every eye in the room is glued to the tall, lithe Gypsy dancer. One pair of eyes seems to burn straight through her, and though she has worked endlessly to shield her heart, she finds her defenses slowly slipping away in the presence of the handsome prince. She cannot resist his devastating charm, nor is she immune to the earth shattering desire in his kiss. As she falls rapidly under his spell, Esmeralda dares to hope for a future she would never have thought possible.

With a deadly plot against the royal family surrounding him in danger and intrigue, Damien will face a decision he never thought he would have to make. Would he step up to claim a responsibility that should never have fallen to the third son? Or will he abandon it to risk all for love?

"The Second Son"

Princess Isabelle has spent her entire life bending to the will of those who have planned her life out for her. Sent into hiding when she was just an infant to protect her from the rebellion in her own homeland, Barony, she was betrothed to Prince Lionus from the neighboring province Cardenas when she was just an infant. Despite the forced engagement, Isabelle has loved Lionus all of her life. When a devious plot against the royal family results in her husband’s death, Isabelle is left with a broken heart and an uncertain future. Only one year after his brutal murder, she has no choice but to choose a new husband and return to her homeland to take her place as queen and repair the war-torn land.

Prince Serge has secretly loved Princess Isabelle his entire life. The fact that she was promised to his brother has brought him no end of pain and suffering. The second born son of the king, he has resigned himself to a life of living in his brother’s shadow. After a deadly plot against the royal family leaves Serge hovering on the edge of death, he awakens from a coma one year later to find that his older brother has died and his youngest brother has taken the throne in his stead. His future is now uncertain, but Serge is determined to find his own way in the world now that he has been given the gift of new life. When it is suggested that Princess Isabelle take him as her husband, Serge begins to hope that all of his most secret dreams will now come true.
Despite unexpected spark of desire between them, Isabelle resists the new path her heart is taking as she clings desperately to Lionus’ memory. Can Isabelle let go of her past and learn to Serge return, or is she destined to a life tied to one man as she still mourns the other.
Once united as king and queen, Isabelle and Serge face the monumental task of rebuilding her broken homeland and rescuing it from the clutches of those seeking to destroy it. Can the pampered princess find the strength to stand beside her husband and fight for her people? Will the second son of a king finally get the chance to prove his worth? Can either of them learn to let go of the ghosts of the past and find love?

Set in a world of kings and queens, palaces and royal courts, warriors and battlefields, book two of Elise Marion’s ‘Kings of Cardenas’ family saga continues with a story of love, passion, and destiny.

"Fallen"

In a world full of the sick and dying, the hurting and desperate, and those lost in darkness, angels dwell. An angel of healing, Amir has spent centuries performing miracles for people hovering at the very edge of death.

A professional ballerina, Shayla lives her life to dance. Abandoned by her family, she is alone in the world yet determined to pursue her dream. When a car accident leaves Shayla in critical condition and in danger of never dancing again, it seems that all hope is lost.
Amir enters Shayla’s life intending to heal her, but when he sees her laying in her hospital bed fighting for her life, something unfamiliar resounds within him. A stranger to desire and love, Amir is drawn to Shayla like a moth to a flame despite the fact that the rules of heaven forbid angels to engage in romantic relationships with mortals. Should he give in to temptation he will become one of the “Fallen”, demons cursed to the depths of hell for eternity.

As his desire for Shayla rises to fever pitch, Amir will face the choice between love and damnation, or loneliness and divinity. Will an angel who has roamed the earth alone for centuries choose to continue on the path of righteousness, or will he fall captive to his burning desires and be forever damned?

Sounds great, right!?  Let's get started with the interview so we can learn more about Elise and her books…

Elise Marion Interview

Book Monster Reviews/LITERAL ADDICTION:  Hi Elise!  Welcome to Book Monster and LITERAL ADDICTION.  We’re happy to have you with us today!  Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to drop by and spend some time with us!

Elise: Thanks so much for having me! I’m happy to be here and talk books!

Book Monster Reviews/LITERAL ADDICTION:  We’d like to start out by getting to know you a little bit better.

Q1):   Can you tell us 3 things about yourself that we can't find out on the internet, in your bio, etc?

Elise: 1. I am afraid of pitch black darkness. Call me crazy, but I need to be able to see at least a few inches in front of my face! I have to have some sort of light.

2. I’m one of the tallest people in my family. In my immediate family, I am the tallest. My parents and younger brother are all shorter than me. I’m not sure where the height comes from, but it’s nice to be able to down at everyone. The downside is, clothes don’t always fit, and  people assume I can play basketball. I am way too clumsy for that, believe me!

3. I’m a habitual knuckle-cracker and nail-biter. Seriously, it drives my husband nuts!

2)  What do you love to do when you're not writing?  Do you have any special hobbies or interests?

Elise: Being a stay-at-home army wife and mom takes up most of my time. I have two children, one 4 and one 7 months. As for hobbies, naturally I’m a reader. I love to try sitting down with a good book when the house is quiet (which isn’t often!).
I’m also very passionate about cooking and food. I love to watch Food Network and learn new techniques and recipes. I like having people over and feeding them; it allows me to show off a bit.

I’m also a movie freak. If it’s in the theaters I have to see it. If it’s new on DVD, I have to have it! I just love getting lost in other stories and other worlds.

3)  Who are some of your favorite authors and what books are in your TBR list?

Elise: In the world of romance, I love Julia Quinn. I appreciate her ability to write stories with passion, heart, and humor. At the end of her books I’m also left feeling deeply satisfied. It’s like eating a chocolate bar or something!

Outside of romance I love Ralph Waldo Ellison’s ‘The Invisible Man’. It’s not a sci-fi book, but rather a man who is invisible because of the color of his skin. It is one of the most powerful books I’ve ever read in my life. It’s controversial in its discussion of race and how it divides us. It’s one of those books that never stops affecting me no matter how many times I read it.

I am currently trying to find time to dive into Karen Moning’s Fever series. I have a lot of friends and blog buddies who are always talking about her books. They sound great, and when I have time I look forward to seeing what they’re all about!

4)  Who or what has influenced your writing and why?

Elise: I think my parents have been my greatest influence, as well as my father’s older sister, Mary Anne. My aunt Anne passed away years ago, but she when I was a kid she always encouraged my brother and me to read. Education was important to her, and she wanted her nieces and nephews to gain as much knowledge as possible. Her gifts to us were always books!
Between her and my parents, a whole world of fantasy was opened up to me through books. I was that kid who would rather read than watch TV. Through reading I discovered my capacity for imagination and eventually it translated into writing. I am so grateful to them for giving me that.

5)  Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

Elise: For me, it’s always about taking it to the next level and exploring things I’ve never done. I started with historical and then branched into paranormal. Now I’m dipping into some light erotica and considering some urban fantasy as well. My tastes are wide and varying and I like the idea of being able to offer readers of all tastes a bit of what I do. So for me, the challenge is finding the next new thing.

6)  Is there a message in your novels that you want readers to grasp?

Elise: It sounds corny, but I write romance, so the biggest takeaway from my books is ‘love conquers all’. I like a lot of angst and drama, and that is definitely present in my books. Despite all that angst, though, love shines through. It never fails!

7)  Can you please give us a little more detail about "The Third Son"?

Elise: Have you ever heard that saying about a bird and a fish falling in love? That is basically what ‘The Third Son’ is all about. Years ago, I had a vision in my mind of a golden-haired prince. This man is beautiful beyond all reason, spoiled, and privileged, yet it just isn’t enough. Being the third son of a king means that no one takes him seriously; no one expects anything from him.
Enter Esmeralda, the Gypsy dancer from a completely different world. Their lives collide and nothing is ever the same again. It’s sort of a ripple effect. I liked the idea of toying with people’s actions influencing the outcome. There are plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader guessing. Will two people from two different worlds find a way to be together? Or will their circumstances overcome them?
In the midst of a deadly plot against the royal family, a jealous mistress, and a mountain of other issues, the two have no choice but to fight for love. The fight is long and hard, but in the end, I found it was worth it to watch these two sail off into the sunset.

8)  What are some other projects you have in the works?

Elise: I have two series’ in progress right now. ‘The Third Son’ is the first book in my ‘Kings of Cardenas’ Series. The second book ‘The Second Son’ was released in January. A collection of 3 novellas, sort of a 2.5 in the series, ‘The Lady Knights of Barony’, will be released soon. The third book, ‘Gypsy Rose’ is in progress and I hope to release it this summer.

The second series is a paranormal series called ‘Angels Among Us’. The first book, ‘Fallen’, was released last year. The second book ‘Tempted’, is also in progress and set for release in March. I am already mulling over the plot for the final book ‘Redemption’.

9)  What advice would you give to writers just starting out?

Elise: Don’t stop writing, and don’t give up on trying to get yourself out there. I was rejected by tons of agents and publishers before I discovered self-publishing. I was wary about it at first, but I am so glad I took a chance and put myself out there. People are reading my books and falling in love with my characters. They are sending me emails and Facebook messages telling me they can’t wait for part two or part three in the series.

If writing is your dream, then pursue it, and don’t stop pursuing.

10)  Is there anything specific you would like to say to the readers out there today?

Elise: I just want to thank everyone for reading this interview. I hope I didn’t ramble on too much and that you check out my books. I hope that if you do, you will fall in love with the worlds I’ve created, just as I have.

Book Monster Reviews/LITERAL ADDICTION:  Elise , again, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedule to sit down and talk with us.  We hope to have you on Book Monster and LITERAL ADDICTION again in the future.

Elise: I thank you, and promise to come back as much as you’ll have me!

I'm glad you said that about self publishing. I've been wanting to try to start a book of my own and was worried about getting published. Your books sound great! Can't wait to read them.
Thanks for doing the interview and contest.
