Q&A Interview and Giveaway with Donna Grant

Happy Sunday Monsters and Addicts!  Book Monster Reviews and LITERAL ADDICTION are very pleased to welcome Donna Grant back to our sites today.

Donna Grant is the award winning author of more than twenty novels spanning multiple genres of romance – Scottish Medieval, historical, dark fantasy, time travel, erotic, and paranormal.

Donna was born and raised in Texas but loves to travel. Her adventures have taken her throughout the United States as well as to Jamaica, Mexico, and Scotland. Growing up on the Texas/Louisiana border, Donna’s Cajun side of the family taught her the “spicy” side of life while her Texas roots gave her two-steppin’ and bareback riding.

Her childhood dream was to become a professional ballet dancer and study under the amazing Mikhail Baryshnikov. Though she never got to meet Baryshnikov, she did make it to New York City and performed in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Later, Donna’s love of the romance genre and the constant stories running through her head prompted her to sit down and write her first book. Once that book was completed, there was no turning back.

Despite the deadlines and her voracious reading, Donna still manages to keep up with her two young children, three cats, and one long haired Chihuahua. She’s blessed with a proud, supportive husband who’s learned to cook far more than frozen chicken nuggets.

Donna sold her first book in November 2005 while displaced from Hurricane Rita, a storm that destroyed portions of the Texas Gulf Coast. Since then, Donna has sold novels and novellas to both electronic and print publishers. Her books include several complete series such as THE DRUIDS GLEN, THE SHIELDS, THE ROYAL CHRONICLES, the SISTERS OF MAGIC, DARK SWORD and the new upcoming DARK WARRIORS series.  For a complete look at Donna's backlist of incredible books and buy links for every book click HERE.

Today we are helping Donna promote her DARK SWORD series.  This series currently has five (5) books:
 Book #1 - "Dangerous Highlander"
Book #2 - "Forbidden Highlander"
Book #3 - "Wicked Highlander"
Book #4 - "Untamed Highlander"
 Book #5 - "Shadow Highlander"
Book #6 - "Darkest Highlander" - Coming January 31

The sixth and last book of the DARK SWORD series is "Darkest Highlander", which will be released on January 31.  But don’t worry! Although the DARK SWORD series is ending, the story and characters will be weaved into the new series DARK WARRIORS, which will start in May 2012, starting with the first book of the series "Midnight's Master".

If you are not familiar with this phenomenal series, we highly recommend you check it out.  It's one of our favorite series.  It's got sexy highland warriors with vengeful gods imprisoned in their souls, druids with incredible powers and a really evil bitch that you just love to hate!!

Here's a look at the books in DARK SWORD series:

"Dangerous Highlander"

He is magnificently strong — and dangerously seductive. One of the fiercest of his clan, Lucan MacLeod is a legend among warriors, inspiring fear in man and woman alike. For three hundred years, he has locked himself away from the world, hiding the vengeful god imprisoned in his soul. But then, a young lass caught in a raging storm awakens his deepest impulses…and darkest desires.

Cara doesn’t believe the rumors about MacLeod castle—until the majestic Highland warrior appears like a fiery vision in the storm, pulling her into his powerful arms, and into his world of magic and Druids. An epic war between good and evil is brewing. And Lucan must battle his all-consuming attraction for Cara—or surrender to the flames of a reckless, impossible love that threatens to destroy them both…

"Forbidden Highlander"

Fallon MacLeod has gifts any warrior would covet – fierce strength, unmatched skill, even immortality. But those gifts come at a price that puts everyone he loves at risk. Only when his brother, Quinn, is taken captive does Fallon leave the seclusion of his Highland home to seek the king’s aid. And though every women at court would gladly be his for the asking, one alone causes desire to roar to life within him: beautiful, mysterious Larena Monroe.

Rumors swirl around the castle about “The McLeod” but Larena knows the truth. Like Fallon, Larena is searching for a way to vanquish the evil Druid who wants to wreak havoc on earth. Drawn to Fallon in spite of her fear, she surrenders to a passion that shocks them both with its raw intensity. But Larena dares not hope for more – not when she holds a secret that could turn her fiery Highland love against her forever…

"Wicked Highlander"

The most reckless and fierce of the MacLeod brothers, Quinn is a prisoner of the god inside him, tormented by his inability to save his family from slaughter. His fury governs him, and day by day he loses himself to the darkness in his soul. But Quinn has a profound yearning for a woman’s love…

Raised by Druids, the achingly beautiful Marcail is as spellbinding as the ancient magic that surges through her body. To Quinn, she is the most desirable woman he has ever known. But to his enemy Deirdre, she is the perfect bait to lure Quinn into her trap. Once the two lovers are in her wicked grasp, their passion will be put to the ultimate test…

"Untamed Highlander"

Druid-born and magic-blessed, Isla is one of the deadliest she-devils ever to serve the forces of darkness. As an immortal Highland warrior, it’s up to Hayden Campbell to destroy her and her kind. But for Hayden, Isla is more than a sworn enemy. She is temptation…

Taking Isla captive, Hayden hopes to avenge his kinsmen who died by Druid magic. But when he looks into Isla’s eyes, he sees the secrets of her past. When he touches her skin, he feels the passion in her soul. And soon Hayden comes to realize that this beautiful, beguiling woman is not his enemy at all—she is his destiny. And, even as the forces of darkness conspire against them, their love will conquer all…

"Shadow Highlander"

Sent on a dangerous mission into the shadowy world of the Druids, Galen must find a powerful ancient relic to defeat the enemies of MacLeod Castle. But what he discovers is far more powerful—and far more dangerous. A Druid lass whose beauty is as spellbinding as any magic…

Reaghan is the most enchanting woman Galen has even met—and the most enigmatic. She alone is immune to his mind-reading gifts. He alone makes her feel safe and secure. But Reaghan holds a secret power deep inside her that could destroy them both. And if Galen hopes to hold this captivating woman in his arms every night, he must defeat the darkness that draws closer around her every day…

"Darkest Highlander"
Release Date:  January 31, 2012

For years, Broc has watched over her, protected her—and hidden his love for her. But when his beautiful Sonya finds herself in a hopeless situation, the Highlander flies to her side to save her. Unfortunately, before the Druidess can thank him, Broc is captured by his enemy and destined for eternal pain…

Sonya vows to help her noble warrior, though he is imprisoned in a mountain of pure evil—bound in chains of the darkest magic. With Sonya’s own magic fading, she must summon the greatest power of all to save the man she loves. But even if these two hearts are united, will they be strong enough to defeat the heart of darkness? Or will their undying love doom them for all eternity…?

Don't they sound incredible?  They most certainly are and we highly recommend that you grab them NOW!!  Before you head over to your favorite bookseller and start buying the books, let's start the interview so we can learn more about the amazing woman behind the books….

Book Monster Reviews/LITERAL ADDICTION:  Hi Donna!  Thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedule to come back and chat with us.  We’re so happy to have you here with us again!

Donna: Thanks, Carla!   I’m so happy to be here.

Q1):   Can you tell us 3 things about yourself that we can't find out on the internet, in your bio, etc?

Donna: I wear a size 3 shoe in kids. J  I’m allergic to (and hate) chocolate (gives me migraines).  I have naturally curly hair that has a mind of its own.

2)  When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

Donna: That one is hard to answer, because I don’t really remember.  I always had stories in my mind, and I constantly had a romance in my hand.  I would spend time telling my hubby about a story and how I thought I’d do it, and so he suggested I write my own book.  So I did. J  And loved it!

3)  Do you have any interesting writing quirks or things that you must have with you to begin the writing process?

Donna: lol.  No.  I’ve been writing since before my kiddos were born, so I learned very early on how to write with infants in my lap, with and without music, through screaming kids, and any number of things.

I do find my best work time is in the morning.  I can’t mess around in the morning and then write later.  I have to get writing first thing. J

4)  What is a typical day like in the life of Donna Grant?

Donna: Um...well, get the kids off to school, work out, read emails, go to FaceBook and maybe Twitter.  Then I open my current WIP and begin writing no later than 8:30am.  I’ll write until lunch, where I’ll take an hour, and then I’m back at it until I have to go get the kids at 2:30.  During that time I get my 20 pages done.

5)  What are some of your hobbies, or things that you enjoy doing when you’re not writing or taking care of other author business?

Donna: I love to travel.  Watching movies, catching up on TV series I might have missed, and of course read.  My husband does triathlons, so I’ll go with him and support him.

6)  What are some of your favorite TV shows and movies?

Donna: Supernatural. (Hmm...Dean. J).  I love Vampire Diaries, Kitchen Nightmares with Gordan Ramsey, Ghost Hunters, The Mentalist, Hell on Wheels, Once Upon a Time, Castle, Hawaii 5-0, NCIS:LA, Secret Circle, Haven, and too many more to name.  lol

We DVR everything, and then catch up when we can.  Except for my absolute favs – Supernatural and Vampire Diaries.  Those I watch each week.

7)  Do you like to listen to music when you write?  If so, what genre or musical artist most inspires you?

Donna: I do.  My preference is soundtracks.  I love the King Arthur soundtrack.  Thor, The Immortals, and the new Three Musketeers are good ones.  I’ve got lots, and I tend to pick a different one to listen to for each book.  ;)

8)  Do you have a personal favorite book among those you have written so far?  Maybe one that holds special meaning for you, etc?

Donna: Not really.  Each book that I’m writing is my favorite for varying reasons.  The most is because I get so involved with those characters.  That’s what is so fun about writing I series.  I don’t have to leave favorite characters behind because I can bring them into other stories.

9)  If you could spend the day with any of your characters, who would it be, and what would you want to do?

Donna: Ohhh...good question.  Let’s see...maybe Isla from UNTAMED HIGHLANDER.  To be forced to use black magic to save her family, but yet be able to overcome that dark magic.  She’s strong!

10)  If you could have any one super power, which would you like to have and why that power?

Donna: Oh, easy.  I’d teleport like Fallon (FORBIDDEN HIGHLANDER).  I get motion sickness, so no more flying!  Yay!!!

11)  You've written many novels in different genres of romance.  Which is your favorite genre to write in?

Donna: I love them all, but my first love has always been historical.  I don’t know why, it just draws me, just as Scotland does.

12)  "Darkest Highlander" will be the sixth and last book in the DARK SWORD series.  Can you give us any juicy tidbits of what we can expect in Broc's book?
Donna: Nope.  Lol.

Seriously, there is so much that happens in the book that will answer all the emails I get asking why it’s turning into the DARK WARRIORS series.

13)  What can we expect in your new DARK WARRIORS series?  Can you give us some details about the series?

Donna: The DW series is just a continuation of the DS series.  Same characters, same storyline with some surprises and even a new villain.

You can still expect the same hunky Highlanders, Druids, magic, and all the sexiness I put in my books. Trust me, you’re going to want to read these to find out what happens!

14)  Who's books will be coming up in the DARK WARRIORS series?

Donna: First up is Logan.  MIDNIGHT’S MASTER will release May 22, 2012.

Then there will be Ian’s.  MIDNIGHT’S LOVER will release June 26, 2012

I don’t have titles for the next 6, but here’s the hero and release dates:
Camdyn – Nov 2012
Ramsey – Dec 2012

Arran – June 2013
Charon – July 2013

Phelan – Nov 2013
Malcolm – Dec 2013

15)  What other projects do you have coming up that you can share with us?
Donna: I’m so very excited to say that there will be a spin off series to the DS/DW titled DARK KINGS.  The “Dark” in all three connects them.  And the DARK KINGS heroes will have lots of interconnecting with the DARK WARRIORS!

The first three DARK KINGS books will be out Summer 2012 with three exclusive eNovellas introducing my dragon shifters!

Again, no titles, but heroes and release dates are:

Hal – August 2012
Guy – September 2012
Banan – October 2012

So, from May – Dec 2012, I’ll back back to back releases!

16)  What has been the most rewarding experience of your career so far?

Donna: Connecting to readers.  I love hearing how a reader has connected with a book or character.  Seeing them pick their favorite in a series, is so much fun!

17)  What legacy do you hope to leave your readers with?

Donna: I hope to leave books that they can go back to time and again, and characters that stay with them long after they’ve finished the book.

18)  Is there anything specific you would like to say to your readers while we have you here today?

Donna: I love to hear from readers, so don’t hesitate to email me with questions or comments!

Book Monster Reviews/LITERAL ADDICTION:  Donna, thank you again for taking time out of your busy schedule to chat with us.  We would love to have you back again in May for the beginning of the DARK WARRIORS series and the release of "Midnight's Master" if you’re interested.

Donna: You bet!

I love balet too, unfortunately am not a good dancer. I wish to know which balet story Donna love so much. Is it swan lake like me, or maybe the nutcracker ? Wish you all the best Donna ,

I love ballet performances, and I think ballerinas are ultra graceful. I wished I learnt it when I was really young, cause now that I'm older, it's much harder for me to pick it up (curse you inflexibility!). Haha. Singapore's an island, so you're close to the beach no matter where you are.:)

Shadow Magic sounds amazing, and I'd really love to read it! Thanks for the giveaway!
