Carla's Review
The Darkest Surrender is the eighth installment in the LORDS OF THE UNDERWORLD series and one of the best so far.  This is another of my favorite series that I have been following since the first book was released and every book just gets better and better.  Every book is action packed, humorous, and full of some seriously hot romance and has me clamoring for the next release.
Strider was never one of my favorite "Lords" with his snarky comments and HUGE ego, but after reading this book he has totally won me over.   His daily "ego checks" were hysterical and when he finally admitted his feelings for Kaia, there is nothing he would not do for her.  Who wouldn't love a man like that?   Kaia told Strider that he was her consort in the last book but he didn't want anything to do with her.  He was dealing with the rejection from Haidee and was pissed off that Kaia had slept with Paris, keeper of Promiscuity.  He feels he could never compete with Paris' skills and he would end up in severe pain from his demon feeling defeated.   Kaia asks him to help her in the Harpy Games but he refuses.  After a while he decides to go to help her and that's when things get interesting and crazy.
I also found that I liked Kaia a lot more after reading this book.  We got to see a deeper side of her.  She's a kick-ass harpy and takes no crap from anyone, but on the inside she is vulnerable and insecure.  When Kaia was a teenager, she made a terrible mistake and because of it hundreds of harpies were slaughtered and she was never forgiven.  Being that Kaia's mother is the most famous and deadly harpy around, Kaia always wanted to prove herself to her mom and others.  After this horrific event occurred, Kaia's mom named her "The Disappointment", and the other harpies never let her forget it.  She's always striving to be the best because of this.  When Kaia and her sisters are invited to the Harpy Games after being banned for hundreds of years, Kaia knows that she is being set up.  She will have to win at all costs or they will kill her and her sisters.  Kaia's also not afraid to fight for what she wants, and she wants Strider!!
The Harpy Games were incredible.  The details of the scenery let you feel like you're there with them and the fight scenes leave you on the edge of your seat cheering Kaia and her team on.
We also got to see some of the other Lords and friends in this book.  Sabin, Gwen, Lysander and Bianka attended the Harpy Games so they were throughout the book a lot.

Maddox and Ashlyn are expecting the twins any time now and planning their arrival.

We get a quick visit from Amun, Haidee, Gideon, Scarlet, Lucien and Anya to help Kaia out.

William decides it's time to make Gilly's parents pay for the horrible things they did to her and goes to track them down.

Kane gets summoned by The Fates.  They tell him of some devastating events that are to unfold in the future that he will be responsible for.  After reading this book, you pretty much have an idea of who Kane's heroine will be and the hell he's in for.

And then we have the set up for the next book, The Darkest Seduction.  After William spots Sienna and Cronus, Paris decides he's done waiting and goes into the Heavens to search for her.  He will stop at nothing to save her, even at the expense of his own life.

Like all the other books in this series, I absolutely loved "The Darkest Surrender".  I am counting down the days until the release of "The Darkest Seduction", which BTW is 02/28/12.  Every book in the LORDS OF THE UNDERWORLD series can be read as a standalone, but I would recommend reading the series in order.  You will fall in love with the characters and you won't want to miss a single thing that happens.

I give "The Darkest Surrender" 5 out of 5 stars
