An author ambush on a very sexy
Shh, keep quiet or they’ll hear me. *whispers* Hello, readers. You find me sneaking along the very elegant black and gold corridor that links the owners’ apartments on the top floor of Vampirerotique, England’s premier vampire erotic theatre. I don’t want to wake Snow, the oldest of the vampire owners, or his younger brother Antoine. Both of them would kick me out, or worse. Our target is at the other end of the corridor. Javier, a Spanish elite vampire, and his woman, Lilah.
*crooks her finger* You can come too if you promise not to wake the others. Snow might tear us apart for disturbing him.
*twists the brass knob on the mahogany door and eases it open* Ah, they’re in... bed that is. I’ll just wake them. *clears throat*
Javier: Dios... what are you all doing here? *rubs sleep from his chocolate brown eyes and sits up*
FH: I thought we could do an interview with you. Your book, Covet, is the first in the Vampire Erotic Theatre series and it would be great to get some inside information on the theatre and the vampires who run it.
Javier: *sighs and scrubs a hand over his dark hair* And this couldn’t wait until I was awake and dressed?
FH: *eyes his muscular bare chest* Where’s the fun in that?
Javier: *smiles and nudges the woman in bed beside him*
Lilah: She said she wanted to talk about the theatre... leave me alone or I’ll make you leave me alone. *pulls the blue covers over her head*
Javier: My apologies. She still has a lot to learn... about manners.
Lilah: I heard that. Keep that up and I’ll bite you.
Javier: *leans down and kisses her shoulder* Ah, my love, how you tempt me so. It is not a threat but a tease. Now I want to annoy you so I may feel those sweet little fangs in my flesh.
FH: Can we bring this back to the theatre?
Javier: Fine, fine... what is it you would like to know?
FH: You came up with the idea for Vampirerotique around a century ago, with Callum, and invited Antoine and Snow to join you and put their names on the door so you could attract the aristocrat pureblood vampires as well as your own elite kind. What was it like approaching them?
Javier: Quite frightening. Many people told me not to do it but we needed a backer and although they no longer have any family, Snow and Antoine are two of the most powerful aristocrat vampires in Europe. I knew that with their name on the door, the theatre would be guaranteed a good audience each night.
FH: If you hadn’t managed to get an aristocrat to sign on as a joint owner, what would have happened?
Javier: The aristocrats, those with pure vampire blood, do not like to mix with elite vampires. They see the elite as beneath them because we have turned humans in our families. Our blood has been diluted. The difference in our positions within society has never been as clear as it is in these modern times when human society functions on a more even level. Now that there is not such a great divide between the different levels in human society, the difference between aristocrat and elite seems almost barbaric.
FH: It definitely comes across as outdated to me. I can’t believe you have to live in a world where those with pure blood treat you as inferior and unworthy of their attention. They don’t even like to sit in the same area as you in the theatre.
Lilah: *from under the covers* No, the lah-di-dah lords sit in their private boxes and look down on the elite in the stalls. It’s ridiculous. I hate it. Javier is still a vampire, and he has a noble lineage, but just because some members of his bloodline evolved out of their snobby attitude and fell for humans, bringing them into their family, he gets treated like a second class citizen.
Javier: Hush, now... I am not treated like a second class citizen, and not all aristocrats are snobbish, as you keep telling me.
Lilah: Well, Snow is nice, when he’s sane... and I suppose Antoine is alright.
FH: Snow has quite a fan club already, but don’t tell him that. I don’t think he could handle knowing that there are scores of women out there with their eye on him. So, if Antoine and Snow, or another aristocrat hadn’t agreed to become part owner of the theatre, you wouldn’t have been able to attract the aristocrats?
Javier: No. A theatre owned by only elite will only attract the elite. The same could be said of a theatre owned by aristocrats, but in that case I believe that it would be more the case of my side of the vampire species not being allowed to enter the theatre. That is why we needed both elite and aristocrats as owners.
FH: The attitude of the aristocrats does seem very out of date in this day and age. Have elites never thought about campaigning for these unspoken rules to be abolished?
Javier: *laughs* Dios, no... the aristocrats wouldn’t even entertain such a protest. They would probably just go to war with us.
Lilah: *grumbles* Aristocrats are bastards.
Javier: Excuse her, she does not like many of them after what happened to her.
FH: I understand. Your theatre has quite open policies when it comes to the staff. You have both human staff and vampires, and not all of the humans are owned. It must take a lot for you to trust those humans not to reveal the existence of vampires to others?
Javier: They know the punishment if they dare to speak of what happens at the theatre, or our existence to other humans. I doubt any humans would believe them, or that they would risk death to spread word about us.
FH: Severe punishment indeed, but understandable. You don’t want humans becoming aware of your kind. What about the stage performers, do you ever have humans on stage who aren’t under the thrall of one of the vampire performers?
Javier: *shakes his head* The audience prefers that all the lead performers on the stage be vampires. The aristocrats go as far as desiring them all to be elites. They believe that their own pureblood kind should not degrade themselves by performing for the erotic theatres. The humans we bring into the shows are all under the thrall of the vampires they will be performing with.
FH: That does sound a little barbaric, but I suppose feeding from humans is your nature.
Javier: We carefully source our human thralls, and all they feel is pleasure with the barest hint of fear or pain to elicit a stronger reaction from the audience and make the show more exciting. Not all of the human thralls we use will die during the finale. We can use upwards of five humans in one performance, and only one of those will die. The rest are released, none the wiser to what they have been through.
FH: Is Vampirerotique different to other theatres in that respect?
Javier: Absolutely. Most erotic theatres will kill all the humans or subject them to higher amounts of fear and pain to gain a harder hit for their attendees. Some even go as far as not allowing the vampires controlling the humans to feed them any of their own pleasure, so the humans suffer. Myself and Callum never wanted our show to be just a crass bloodletting one. We wanted it to be more tasteful and draw a better class of theatregoer than the other places in London. We pride ourselves on providing excitement, debauchery and erotic acts that push the boundaries without relying on tapping our base instincts by spilling more blood than necessary. It’s all about the tease. A single drop of blood allowed to run its course over bare human flesh and then licked away by the vampire is far more thrilling than that same vampire gorging themselves on the throat of the human.
FH: Vampirerotique certainly attracts a more exclusive, refined crowd. What do your families think about the theatre?
Javier: My family see it as a business, and a successful one. I think my mother is pleased that we are more about the thrill than the kill. Callum’s family are purely interested in gaining the chance to elevate themselves in society by being linked to a popular theatre. They often pull strings for their friends to get them tickets. Antoine and Snow do not have a family. I think they both see the theatre as a place to call home and neither tends to interact with the elite or aristocrat attendees more than is completely necessary. Antoine is very proud of the theatre though.
FH: It sounds like a very sumptuous, exotic and exciting place to call home. I’m sure that others will join me when I say that I can’t wait to see what the world of Vampirerotique has in store for us. Thank you for taking the time to tell us a little more about the theatre you call home, the difference between the elite and the aristocrat vampires, and those who share this place with you... and for not ripping my throat open for waking you.
Javier: It has been my pleasure. Be careful on your way out. Snow is a light sleeper and he wakes ravenous for blood, although something tells me you might not be averse to finding yourself trapped in his arms.
FH: *smiles and edges out of the room* I’m sure I could tame Snow.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this brief insight into the world of Vampirerotique and Javier and Lilah, as well as the other owners of the theatre. Covet, Javier and Lilah’s book, is the first in the series and is available now in ebook. Now, keep it down while I sneak out of here. While I think I could tame Snow, I really don’t want to have to try.
Covet is available now for Kindle, Nook, Kobo and Apple devices. It will soon be available at the Sony site, but you can get it in epub from other retailers like Smashwords and my own website.
They’ve burned for each other for two years, the forbidden attraction between them growing each night. Now resisting the sinful desires of their hearts is becoming impossible.
Javier knows better than to succumb to his hunger for Lilah. The mortal female belongs to a powerful aristocrat patron of Vampirerotique, the theatre he runs with three other vampires. A single touch is all it would take to break the sacred law of his kind, sentencing himself to death, but his passion for her has become too fierce to ignore and he will risk everything to make Lilah his.
Lilah has fought her desire for Javier since arriving at his theatre as a servant but each glance he has stolen, his eyes promising pleasure that will satisfy her longing for him, has chipped away at her defences and she can no longer deny her need and her forbidden feelings for the powerful vampire male.
When they find themselves alone in a private box during one of the erotic performances, will they surrender to their passion and live out their wildest fantasies in a night of wicked pleasure or will the threat of Lilah’s master keep them apart forever?
