Q&A Interview and Giveaway with Jill Myles

Hello everyone!  LITERAL ADDICTION and Book Monster Reviews are proud to welcome Jill Myles to our sites today!
Jill has been an incurable romantic since childhood.  She reads all the ‘naughty parts’ of books first, looks for a dirty joke in just about everything, and thinks to this day that the Little House on the Prairie books should have been steamier.
After devouring hundreds of paperback romances, mythology books, and archaeological tomes, she decided to write a few books of her own – stories with a wild adventure, sharp banter, and lots of super-sexy situations.  She prefers her heroes alpha and half-dressed, her heroines witty, and she loves nothing more than watching them overcome adversity to fall into bed together.
Jill also writes steamy contemporary romances for Berkley Heat as Jessica Clare, though those aren’t out yet.

Jill is the proud creator of the SUCCUBUS DIARIES series, which currently consists of four installments and several related novellas – “Foreplay” (Succubus Diaries .5, a prequel), “Gentlemen Prefer Succubi”, “Succubi Like It Hot”, “Zane’s Tale” (eBook Only, Succubus Diaries #2.5), “My Fair Succubi”, “Succubi Interrupted” (eBook only, Succubus Diaries #3.5), and the upcoming “Succubi Are Forever”, and “Slave to her Desires” (eBook Only, Succubus Diaries #4.5).
She also writes the LIGHT series, which includes “Mirrorlight”, and “Shimmerlight”, as well as several single titles – “Island Heat”, “Wicked Games”, “Zombie Fairytales”, and “The Mermaid’s Knight”.
For those of you not yet familiar with Jill’s work, we thought we’d give you the synopses of the three current, main books in the SUCCUBUS DIARIES series to whet your appetite.

Gentlemen Perfer Succubi” Synopsis:

Who Knew An Angel Could Get A Girl In So Much Devilish Trouble?

Jackie Brighton woke up in a Dumpster this morning, and her day has only gotten weirder. Her familiar B-cups have somehow become double Ds, her sex drive is insatiable, and apparently she had her first one-night stand ever...with a fallen angel. All she remembers is gorgeous Noah's oddly hypnotic blue eyes...and then a dark stranger whose bite transformed her into an immortal siren with a sexy itch. With help from Noah, Jackie begins to adapt to her new lifestyle — until she accidentally sends Noah into the deadly clutches of the vampire queen and lands herself in a fierce battle for an ancient halo with the queen's wickedly hot righthand man. Who just happens to be the vampire who originally bit her. How's a girl supposed to save the world when the enemy's so hard to resist?

Succubi Like It Hot” Synopsis:

NOBODY SAID SUCKING WAS EASY.

With a hot new figure, her dream job as an archaeologist, and two gorgeous boyfriends to scratch her seductive Itch — an angel and a vampire — Jackie Brighton is totally getting the hang of life as a succubus. Then she accidentally knocks the pizza guy unconscious with her touch. Great — she's cursed. After striking a deal to get the curse lifted by a crafty demon, Jackie and her best friend Remy take a road trip to deliver a cryptic message to the nation's oldest succubus. Unfortunately, neither of her jealous lovers is talking to Jackie right now, and due to the curse, she's desperate to get her Itch scratched very soon. Their journey gets weirder with every mile — demonic possession, a charming stalker, a cryptic warning — and when they get to New Orleans, Jackie discovers a dangerous catch to her supernatural bargain. Someone wants her dead — again. Can a brainy vixen in a miniskirt outsmart the forces of evil?

My Fair Succubi” Synopsis:

IT SUCKS TO BE HER...

Living as a succubus has a bit of a learning curve, but with sexy fallen angel Noah to scratch her sensual Itch, Jackie Brighton is finally starting to feel ahead of the game. She almost doesn’t miss her gorgeous vampire master Zane – or his sinful, teasing mouth. She’s trying to convince herself of that, anyway.

But Jackie’s past mistakes catch up with her, spinning her life out of control once more. Just as her friend Remy’s inner demon comes out to play, Noah and Jackie are arrested by the angelic Serim Council. When Jackie seizes the chance to escape, she falls right into Zane’s waiting arms. As she’s pulled into a game of cat and mouse between vampires and angels, she finds she must also finally choose between the two men in her life. Can she decide between Noah and Zane, or will she lose everything she’s ever wanted? Because there’s more at stake than just her heart...

Yes, we know, they sound fantastic.  They are!  How about we get to the interview and learn more about the remarkable woman behind these amazing literary gems though shall we!?

LITERAL ADDICTION/Book Monster Reviews:  Hi Jill!  We’re very happy to have you here today, and are excited to help you promote the upcoming installments of the SUCCUBUS DIARIES series!
JILL: Hello! Thank you for having me. I’m excited to be here. J
LITERAL ADDICTION/Book Monster Reviews:  We like to start out by finding out a bit more about our guest author, and then we’ll dig into the books…
Q1): Can you tell us 3 things about yourself that we couldn’t find out easily on the Internet?
JILL: Oh gosh. Uh. I have a fear of cotton balls? (The texture makes my skin crawl)

Q2):  What are 2 things that never fail to make you smile, and 2 things that always piss you off?
JILL: 2 things that never fail to make me smile are my cats! I just totally sounded like the crazy cat lady, but it’s true. They have such funny personalities. Two things that always piss me off are 1) when people see that their lane is closing in traffic and they still coast ALL THE WAY DOWN and cut in front of everyone and then put on their blinker. I have almost gotten into an accident multiple times because I’m the jerk that refuses to let you in, even if our bumpers are an inch apart. Also, people that say viola instead of voila. I have no idea why that makes me all ragey, but there you go.

Q3):  If you could have 1 superpower, what would you want it to be and why?
JILL: Flight. Definitely. Though time travel would be awesome, too!

Q4):  What are some of your hobbies or things that you enjoy doing when you’re not working, writing or taking care of other business?
JILL: I’m kind of a sad sack in that I’m a workaholic – between a day job and my book contracts and my self-publishing, the only free time I have goes to reading and sleeping. And spending time with my husband, of course. I’m pretty boring, overall.

Q5):  What’s your guilty pleasure?

JILL: Starbucks. Totally.

Q6):  We know this is a tough one, but who are some of your favorite authors, and what’s in your TBR pile right now?
JILL: I’m listening to Meljean Brook’s HEART OF STEEL on audio right now and it’s so fun. I’ve already read it once but it’s a different experience when it’s being read to me. I’m also reading THE LOST CITY OF Z, which is non-fiction, a ton of non-fiction books about famous explorers (I’m currently on a nerdy fix about the Royal Geographical Society), and I’m also reading Cherise Sinclair’s newest. My go-to authors that I haven’t yet mentioned? Ilona Andrews, Kresley Cole, and Kelley Armstrong.

Q7):  What’s your idea of the perfect date?
JILL:  A good movie with my husband followed by a nice dinner and cheesecake.

Q8):  What are the best and worst parts of writing for you?

JILL:  The best is that giddy buzz of creation. Of writing a scene that you’ve been waiting weeks – or YEARS – to finally get down on paper. You can get a total rush from writing it. The worst part is editing. Not basic line editing, but moving scenes around and shuffling things. I’m a very linear writer, so when someone comes back to me and says that a scene doesn’t work or needs to be moved, it does not compute. I can’t wrap my brain around changing what’s written, though I’m trying hard to adjust. J

Q9):  What’s a typical work day like for you?  Do you have a routine; is there something that you absolutely have to have with you to get through your day & get the creative juices flowing, etc?
JILL: I wake up at 6 am, at the day job by 8, work until 5:30 or so, run errands after work, get home about 6:30 or 7, have dinner, sit down with my husband for about an hour, and then work on writing while he plays on his computer. I usually get an hour or so of writing a night, and pass out sometime around 10:30 or so. On weekends I get a lot more writing in – sometimes I marathon and write all day. And then I need a day to recuperate (which I don’t get).

Q10):  What type of scenes do you enjoy writing the most (action, love, dialogue, etc)?

JILL:  I really love flirting scenes, argument scenes, and sex scenes. Anything where there’s a lot of fast paced dialogue. Well, okay, and sex.

Q11):  What’s your fondest childhood memory?
JILL: Vacations with my family. I remember going to a waterfall in Quebec City and going fishing with my family. My grandmother (this tiny, frail little woman) snapped a worm in half and it splatted all over her hand, and we kids thought she was hardcore.

LITERAL ADDICTION/Book Monster Reviews:  O.K, now we’ll ask some questions directly related to the SUCCUBUS DIARIES and LIGHT series…  J
Q12):  Was there any specific inspiration that lead to the concept and creation of the SUCCUBUS DIARIES series?
JILL:  Lunch with my sister. I was working on a concept for an angel book, but it wasn’t gelling for me – it was missing something important. We were joking at lunch and the topic of vampires came up, and ‘blood starved’. And my brain automatically filled in ‘sex starved’. And then I thought, well, that must be a story about a sex vampire. Jackie’s story came from that.

Q13):  What about the LIGHT series?
JILL:  The Light series came about because I wrote a short story with a fairy godmother, and I just loved that character (Muffin). I wanted to write more stories featuring her, and she’s going to continue to be in all the stories in one incarnation or another! There’s two LIGHT stories out right now, a related novel (The Mermaid’s Knight) and I’ve been working on another off and on.

Q14):  Are there any specific messages in any of the books that you’re hoping your readers will grasp?
JILL:  Just that you don’t have to be a total badass to save the day and get the guy. I think a lot of my heroines stem from the fact that I want them to be normal people, with normal jobs. To me, it’s a lot more interesting if someone normal rises to the occasion, rather than someone awesome just swooping in, if that makes sense.

Q15):  What were the challenges (research, literary, psychological, logistical, etc) in bringing the SUCCUBUS DIARIES series to life?

JILL: Research! You can research your brains out and still get things wrong, or confuse readers. For example, I set Jackie in a made-up metropolis in Wyoming. Like Batman and Gotham City, right? But it really confused a lot of people, and looking back, I’d have moved her to a more familiar city. I also struggled with a character that has to have sex to survive and has two boyfriends – people are going to raise their eyebrows at that sort of thing, and of course they should.

Q16):  How many books do you have planned for the LIGHT series?
JILL: They really do stand completely alone, so I don’t have a definitive ending. I like them to be just hot, sexy little lunchtime reads. I’m working on one, SUNLIGHT, which is a retelling of Rapunzel (with a Muffin twist, of course) and after that, probably next spring, will be SWANLIGHT, which will be a retelling of the Swan Princess.

Q17):  What can we look forward to as each of the series progress?
JILL:  Lots of laughs and hot sex? J

Q18):  What else is in the works for Jill Myles outside of the upcoming SUCCUBUS DIARIES installments?
JILL: I have a few trunked projects that I’ve been sitting on for a while that I might have formatted and put up next spring. One is a young adult novel that I wrote a few years ago that never sold. Another is a romantic fantasy – same situation. Wrote it years ago, never did anything with it. I’m also working on a sequel to WICKED GAMES. And I’m toying with a trilogy of shorter works in a bigger setting, with lots of players. But it’s just finding the time!
Under my other pseudonyms, I have one book and one novella coming out as Jessica Sims, and two full length erotic contemporaries writing as Jessica Clare. Lots of books, lots of names. If you sign up for my newsletter, I try to make it easier on you, though. J

Q19):  Is there a question that you have always wanted to be asked in an interview but have never been asked?  How would you answer that question?

JILL: Jill, what is the word that you constantly misuse and your editor changes? Me: Underpants! She changes it to panties. I guess underpants is not sexy enough. Which tells you that I am not the sexiest person in real life, because I say underpants all the time!

Q20):  Is there anything specific you would like to say to your readers while we have you here today?
JILL: Just that I really appreciate everyone that reads my books and comments on them, be it on my website, on Goodreads, Amazon, or Barnes & Noble. I write to have fun and make others smile, and I hope that I succeed more often than not.

LITERAL ADDICTION/Book Monster Reviews:  Jill, thank you so much for being with us today!  “Succubi are Forever” and “Slave to her Desires” look absolutely fantastic and we’re very happy to help you promote them!  We’d LOVE to have you back to help promote any of your other upcoming releases in 2012 if you’re interested!
JILL:   Thank you! 2012 is going to be a big year for me so I’d love to come back!

I haven't read any of Ms. Myles' Succubi books, but I loved the Wild & Steamy anthology. I also loved Beauty Dates the Beast under her pseudonym Jessica Sims (highly recommend it).

Even though I'm absolutely terrible at writing fiction, I can totally relate to her "worst" part of writing. I'm an academic and I HATE having to edit, moving stuff around and then making it all fit. I'm a linear writer as well (although a friend called me "fluid", which sounds nicer), and it drives me nuts when things don't fit right!
