Q&A Interview and Giveaway with Deena Remiel

Hey there Book Monsters and Literal Addicts! Book Monster Reviews and LITERAL ADDICTION are very pleased to welcome author Deena Remiel to our sites today.

Deena is the author of the amazing BRETHREN series as well as some incredible stand alone novels.

Deena wrote a great bio for her website, so we borrowed it and posted it here so ya'll can learn some more about her.  Take it away Deena….

My name is Deena Remiel, and I am an author of paranormal romance and poetry. I also teach language arts to middle school kids. Curiously, I’ve found myself being called upon, from time to time, to write all sorts of correspondence for my family and friends. But they are everything to me and frequently serve as fodder for elements of my novels, poems, and posts.  They take it all in stride, though, and with good humor. So, it’s really a perfect give and take relationship!

I belong to RWA national and the Desert Rose Chapter of RWA, where there are outstanding people writing fabulous stories. I first became published with Decadent Publishing, a fabulous company that I’m so happy to be associated with. I also have self-published a couple of books- Brethren Beginnings Volume 1 and Picture Perfect.

I grew up in Philadelphia, home of the most amazing soft pretzels, oh and the Liberty Bell.  My husband and I began our own family in New Jersey, and just a few short years ago, Arizona called to my spirit and tempted my husband with much better weather! We moved our family, and the rest is history, or the present, as the case may be!

These are a few of my favorite things: writing and reading of course, chocolate, music with lyrics or melodies that speak to me, soaking baths, singing in the shower, dancing with my buds, romantic dancing with my hubby, scrapbooking, watching my girls enjoy what they love to do, and laughing at jokes because Lord knows I can’t tell one!

Deena's BRETHREN series currently has one book, "Trinity" and the prequel "Brethren Beginnings - Volume 1".   The  second book in the series, "Relic" is scheduled to release January 27th, 2012.

Deena also has some great stand alone titles which include "Picture Perfect" and "Ghost of a Chance".

In case you are unfamiliar with Deena's books, here is a synopsis for each of the above mentioned books to get you more acquainted….

"Picture Perfect"

Jamie has it all, looks, brains, and a charming personality. But in this romance cover model’s world, those blessings become a curse when a colleague blurs the line between reality and fantasy. Will women only see him for his looks and never look below the surface to the man beneath?

Hope had a dream job, working with sexy, hot photographs, turning authors’ dreams into reality. When laid off from her publisher as a cover artist she must find her namesake in life again…some kind of hope for her future. Can a birthday wish give her what she truly desires? They say be careful what you wish for…

"Ghost of a Chance" -
Susannah’s married to her career. And she’s about ready for a divorce. Drowning in grief over the loss of her husband years ago, she initially immersed herself in a high-powered position at her marketing firm. But recently, she’s lost that loving feeling. Is she finally able to accept that her need for a man, for love in her life is stronger than her desire to bury it?
Remy, once a high-profile building magnate, is a ghost of a man, literally. Cursed by a vengeful ex-wife he neglected, he’s relegated to shadows of his former world. She meant for him to spend the rest of his life without the chance of normalcy ever again, and he believed she succeeded. But could there be a way out?
Susannah and Remy, two people ghosting through life, until they are brought together by a fateful One Night Stand. Both are seeking re-entry to the land of the living and loving. Can they fulfill each other’s deepest desires and learn what it means to live again?

                                              THE BRETHREN SERIES

"Brethren Beginnings - Volume 1" - BRETHREN series prequel

The Brethren. Who are they and why are they here? Discover the origins of these enigmatic angels manifested on Earth for millennia. Lose yourself in their compelling stories of human salvation and triumph over Evil.

"Trinity" - BRETHREN series - Book 1

One way or another, terror will reign tonight. School teacher and single mom, Emma Livingston, has been through hell—and back so she thinks. While dealing with the night terrors and active imagination of her five-year old daughter, Hannah, she attempts to lead a normal life. That is, until the demon from those nightmares pays her a visit, too, and threatens both of their lives. Desperate, she reaches out for help—and finds Michael waiting.
Michael D’Angelo is known to everyone in Prophet’s Point, Arizona, as their loving elementary school principal. But to The Brethren, he is the most powerful Protector. Immortal and angelic does not mean he’s without doubts or fears, as protecting Emma and Hannah from Evil tests his ability to fight his tortured past.
As the Trinity is formed, ancient secrets are revealed and faith is tested. When a prophecy is exposed, Hannah becomes the main target and Emma wonders if a normal life will ever be possible again. Hope is like an anchor, but can a mother, her daughter, and an angel overcome the evil determined to annihilate the world?

"Relic" - BRETHREN series - Book 2
Coming January, 2012

Raphael, an immortal Brethren Savior, an angel with a forgotten past, has lost his power to heal and is on a self-imposed guilt trip trying to get it back.  Powers be damned, he winds up enmeshed in a web of attempted murder and resurrection all thanks to a woman he’s only seen in a photograph and by chance on his hiking trail.
Serena, a young woman with a promising future, yet presently with unfulfilled dreams, is a wanted woman. Wanted for a stolen relic and its suspected healing powers, she is hunted down in the Arizona desert and left for dead.
Raphael and Serena are inexorably bound together, for locked deep within the relic’s heart is the soul of Raphael’s long, lost wife. Danger lurks around every corner, as Raphael is determined to keep both Serena and his dead wife’s soul alive and lustful temptation at bay. Three souls bound together by an ancient relic, bound by a timeless gift, and bound by a love that is eternal.

So now that you're all running to Amazon to buy some (or all) of these amazing books, let's go talk to Deena to learn more about her and see what she has coming up next…

Book Monster Reviews/LITERAL ADDICTION:  Hi Deena!  Welcome to Book Monster and LITERAL ADDICTION!  We’re so happy to have you with us today!

Deena: Hi everyone! I am thrilled to be with all of you today! Let’s see if I remembered to bring everything with me today… Coffee, check! Books, check! Hot Angels, definitely check! Okay, I’m all set.

Book Monster Reviews/LITERAL ADDICTION:  We always like to start out by getting to know you a little bit better.

Q1):   Can you tell us 3 things about yourself that we can't find out on the internet, in your bio, etc?

Deena: Hmmm. Well first, as luck would have it, as much as I adore cute puppies and kittens, and all things furry, alas, I am terribly allergic to them! Since my kids aren’t, when they were younger, I took them to pet shops and for 10 minutes at a clip I would take out those warm, fuzzy darlings and let them play with them in the little rooms. Okay, it was for me, too! LOL It was about all I could stand before succumbing to my allergy. The second thing you don’t know is that I am a dancing maniac! From the time I was twelve, I was a disco-dancing fool, in my disco bodysuit and skirt and Candee’s shoes. To this day, I love dancing. Anyone have a wedding or Bar Mitzvah coming up I can go to?! The last morsel I’m going to share is that I used to write songs on my piano when I was a teenager and in my 20’s. Some of those songs have been transformed into the poems you see today on my site.

Q2):  What are some other hobbies and interests you like to do when you're not writing?

Deena: I love to scrapbook! I scrapbook all of our family vacations and we still love to look through all of the memories and photographs together, alone, with friends…

Q3):  When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

Deena: I’ve always written poems. But it never occurred to me to become a writer until I submitted a poem for a greeting card line. It went pretty far in the process, but ultimately was rejected. It didn’t deter me, though, and when the family and I moved to Arizona, and I looked at the Superstition Mountains near my home, I fell in love and a world appeared before me that I had to write about.

Q4):  Do you have any interesting writing quirks or certain things you MUST have with you to start the writing process?

Deena: I must have peanut M&M’s beside me, that’s for sure! Some people must listen to music. I CAN’T. Being musically inclined, I find it too distracting and start humming the melody or singing the lyrics.

Q5):  What books do you have in your TBR pile right now?

Deena: You got 100 pages to fill here? LOL I think I want to try Kresley Cole, for one. And I have books by Linda Howard and Beverly Barton I must get to. I adore romantic suspense! Of course, when my friends have books that come out, I read those straight away.

Q6):  What are some of your favorite TV shows and movies?

Deena: I love all the cooking challenge shows, Castle, Bones, Glee, Once Upon a Time, Grimm, Ghost Hunters, and Ghost Adventures for TV.  My fave movies are Princess Bride, Pretty Woman, Young Frankenstein, Indiana Jones and Superman movies, Lord of the Rings, lordy! I could go on forever!

Book Monster Reviews/LITERAL ADDICTION:  Now we'd like to ask you some questions about the BRETHREN series.

Q7):  For those who are not yet familiar with the series, can you please give us some more detailed information about the BRETHREN?  Who they are and what it is that they do?

Deena: The Brethren are angels manifested on earth with the sole responsibility of keeping humans safe from Evil. They protect them, heal them, and wage war against Evil when necessary. There are 3 Protectors, 3 Warriors, and 3 Saviors in total. They form teams or work all together.

Q8): Where do you get your information or ideas for the BRETHREN series?

Deena: I read about ancient religions and the geography of certain places to acquire names, places, and details needed to make my stories come to life.

Q9):  How many books do you have planned for the series?

Deena: I have a total of 6 planned. I’m working on number 3 now, Elixxir, and have the rest sketched out already. I’m also planning a spin-off, so there’s lots coming!

Q10):  Do you have a favorite character amongst the BRETHREN? Maybe one that means a little more to you in some way?  If so, who and why?

Deena: In general, I have to say the woman hold a special place in my heart. They are strong, impulsive, snarky, but also have a vulnerability that only my Angels can get through to.

Q11):  Is there a character in the series that you are finding it a challenge to write about?

Deena: Nathanael is complicated. He’s a warrior and having issues with blurring the line between Good and Evil. Poor soul! He presents me with the problem of keeping that delicate balance sometimes and when and how far to go over the edge at other times. Scrumptious, in my opinion!

Q12):  Is there a specific message in your books that you want readers to grasp?

Deena: Each book has a different message, however, the overarching theme is that Good will prevail over Evil. In a time when we see a lot of evil acts occurring around the world, I felt we needed a place, a world, where even though Evil exists there, too, Good always remains sovereign.

Q13):  What's next for Deena Remiel?  What do you have planned in the upcoming months?

Deena: I’m finishing up Elixxir and then working on my 4th book, as of yet unnamed. I’ll be busy promoting the books I have out already and making personal appearances. In February, I’ll be doing a workshop and signing books in Glendale, AZ for the Chocolate Affaire. March, I’ll be signing books all weekend at the Tucson Festival of Books. April, I’ll be at the RT Booklovers Convention. And June, I’ll be hosting, along with my co-chair and committee, the 2nd annual Arizona Dreamin’ Romance Readers Event in Chandler, AZ.

Q14):  What question have you always wanted to be asked in an interview and never have been?  Can you answer that for us?

Deena: What’s your pie in the sky dream?  Well, it used to be to become a published author. Now, it’s to get on one of the BIG lists- NYT, USA Today… Yeah, pie in the sky…

Q15):  Is there anything specific you would like to say to the readers out there?

Deena: I want to thank those of you who are already Disciples (fans) and friends. I have the best circle around, I tell you! I love you dearly! For those who are new to the Brethren, I hope you become one of us and enjoy getting swept away by the world of the Brethren… Don’t be shy! Come round my website, email me, get on the fan page. We play games there…
