Award winning author, Lisa Renee Jones, has published more than fifteen novels in several different languages, spanning multiple genres of romance – contemporary, romantic suspense, dark paranormal and erotic fiction. In each book the hero is dark, dangerous, and sexy. Book Monster Reviews (Carla): Hi Lisa! Happy Release Day!!! Thank you for stopping by Book Monster Reviews. I'm so happy to have you here today so we can celebrate "Sterling's" release.
Lisa: Thank you so much for having me! I am super excited about Sterling!
Book Monster Reviews: We always like to start out by getting to know you a little bit better.
Q1): Can you tell us 3 things about yourself that we can't find out on the internet, in your bio, etc?
Lisa: My cat is my writing partner. She is ALWAYS by my sideJ I’m a gym rat who is there so much people ask if I work there lol! Despite living with a Mexican man for 7 years, I cannot speak a lick of Spanish.
2) When did you realize you wanted to become a writer and how long have you been writing for?Lisa: Well, I started out doing stage work as a teen. Then life got in the mix and I had kids. I started doing independent films and life was still too demanding to really go for it. I was eager to use my creative side someone mentioned why didn’t I write a script. I did about a woman who owned a staffing agency and the crazy people who come through the doors. That would be me! One thing led to another and I decided to write a book. I still owned my staffing agency at the time and it was a pretty bad book, but I was hooked. Not long after, I sold my company and took the writing plunge. That was in 2007.
3) You have written novels in multiple genres of romance. Which would you say is your favorite genre to write in?
Lisa: I like them all. Really I do. When I write dark paranormal it’s a much different intense experience than writing contemporary like my Blazes. I enjoy switching back and forth. It gives me a break from intense to write a Blaze. And I love Blaze because those are real life stories that could really happen. But I’m a paranormal addict. Give me my DEAN AND SAM any day and I’ll be happy!
4) What inspired you to start writing Paranormal Romance novels?
Lisa: Oh my man for sure. I’d been reading some paranormal for the first time when I met him. Well, he is just so into ghosts and boogie men! He even convinced me to watch scary movies which I HATE but I find writing fear is easier if you feel some of it. And feeling movie created fear is about the only kind I want, thank you very much!
5) Do you have a specific routine you follow when you write, or things that you must have with you or do to get the creative juices flowing?
Lisa: I write everyday pretty much. I find if I skip days it’s hard to get back in the flow. So pretty much 7 days a week. I also find starting a new book is the most intimidating and that I usually stare at the page for a few days. I always freak out during those few days and think the book will never get written. But generally I get up, shower and drink coffee, do some promo emails and then start writing. Usually I work on the same pages as the day before and tighten them. When I finish a book it’s finished because I edit as I go along. I stop to go work out later in the day and think about what comes next. Then I start outlining the next day’s work. I like to watch TV while working out or listen to an audio book but if I am into a deadline book often I won’t let myself. I listen to music and think about the story. I can’t risk being distracted by someone else who writes so well they drag me into thinking about their stories, not mine—KAREN MONING. I swear her Fever series was WAY WAY too distracting! 6) What are three things that never fail to make you smile and three things that never fail to piss you off?
Lisa:
Smile - My kids, Diego – my man, My cat
Piss me off —
Someone else’s politics being shoved down my throat via social media,
Mean people who say mean things about other people,
My bathroom scale which is why I stopped getting on it about a year ago
7) What are some of your favorite TV shows and movies?
Lisa: TV – Supernatural! Love! House. Entourage. Weeds. Nurse Jackie. In Weeds and Nurse Jackie the writing is brilliant. I mean these characters should not be likable but the writing makes us like them. XFactor is a new favorite. The Next Food Network Star and The Next Iron Chef
Movies: I tend to watch a movie once. Never again. However, I will forever love Pretty Woman. I loved the reboot of Star Trek. Hmmmm see? They don’t stick with me. I don’t know why. Still – I love movies and I love the movie experience in a huge way!
8) Who are some of your favorite authors and what is it that strikes you most about their work?
Lisa: Karen Moning rocks my world. She makes me love her romances and her UF. I think it’s how real her characters are. I love Gaelen Foley because she has such beautiful ways of telling a story. If you haven’t read her you are missing out! Love my pal Donna Grant. She is rocking my Highlander World. I have really enjoyed Patricia Briggs Mercy series too. Love me some Adam! Again – the realness of the voice and characters really get me.
9) If you could spend the day with one of your characters, who would it be and why?
Lisa: Oh that’s hard. I spend months with them when I write their stories and often it’s hard to let them go It’s always the characters I am writing at the time because I have to live in their world to write them.
10) Can you please tell us a little more about the ZODIUS series outside of what we've read in the synopsis above in the intro?
Lisa: My ex father-in-law who has passed away was in the Army. He confessed being at the famous alien cleanup right before he passed. He said enough to spark my interest in what we might have done with what we found and how the secrets of Area 51 play into that question. That, and an obsession with Vegas roulette tables, sparked the premise of the Zodius series which is Hot Super soldiers saving the world!
11) What was the inspiration behind the ZODIUS series?
Lisa: I think I beat you to this answer above. But one thing I will add is that we as humans evolve, as do animals. The premise is really about the evolution of man being sped up by manmade influences. I don’t think that is hard to believe when we’ve even cloned animals.
12) Do you have a specific character from the ZODIUS that is your favorite? If so, why do you think you love them so much?
Lisa – I love Sterling because he is broken and human no matter what his special skills. And aren’t we all broken in some way? What defines us is how we deal with what life throws us and Sterling deals with it in a way that makes him special to me. He never gets callous. He never gets bitter.
13) How many books do you have planned for the ZODIUS series?
Lisa – However many my readers makes possible by buying the books:)
14) Can you tell more about THE MASTERS series? What is the series about, how many books are planned and what are your future plans for this series?
Lisa: The Masters were shorts I did for Spice. They will wrap up at the 3 stories simply because Spice is going away next year. I do have one more Spice Brief out next year but in a different world – VEGAS!
15) How about THE VAMPIRE WARDENS? Can you tell us what you have planned for this series as well?
Lisa: I have a lot of plans for the Wardens.
Troy’s story, HOT VAMPIRE TOUCH, will be out in November.
The WICKED WEREWOLF NIGHT story I have out December 13th is a connected story and will open the door to lots more future stories as well.
16) What's next for Lisa Renee Jones? What other projects do you have planned in the upcoming months?
Lisa: Next year I will have a number of indie books out and I have the following with NY publishers so far:

August – Spice Brief
October, November, December -- AMERICA’S NEXT TOP DANCER BLAZE trilogy
17) What question have you always wanted to be asked in an interview, but never have been? And could you answer that for us?
Lisa: Not really a question but one thing I think readers often don’t know is that authors have little to no say in their covers.
18) What advice do you have for aspiring authors?
Lisa: Never EVER give up and Indie is a whole new world. Go big and go now!
19) If you could leave your readers with one legacy, what would you want it to be?
Lisa: A smile.
20) Is there anything specific you would like to say to your readers?
Lisa: HUGE HUGE thank you! Writing is special and that you choose to read my stories is even more special.

I've never read any of Ms. Jones' books~but now I want to! New Braunfels, TX is right down the road from where I live~it'll be cool to read a trilogy that's set there (even though it's not the same time frame~lol).
