Hey there Book Monsters and Literal Addicts! Book Monster Reviews and LITERAL ADDICTION are very pleased to welcome author Juliana Stone to our sites today.
During a stint on the music end of things,( and yes she had the big hair, and equally big shoulder pads) she toured Canada fronting an all female rock band and after meeting her husband fell into married life. Kids, dog and the requisite white picket fence followed and her writing took a bit of a back seat.
But in the fall of 2007 she decided to take another stab at writing and inspired by the paranormal works of Christine Feehan, Keri Arthur and Lindsey Sands she set out to write something great. She ended up with an intriguing world of Jaguar Warriors and was grateful that Avon Books wanted to publish them!
Juliana is the creator of the following series: BLACK OPAL which currently consists of two (2) books, "Black Legacy" and "Black Destiny". The JAGUAR WARRIORS consists of three (3) books, "His Darkest Hunger", "His Darkest Embrace" and "His Darkest Salvation" which was released on July 26 2011. The JAGUAR WARRIOR series heads into an exciting, new direction, with the next installment, Wicked Road to Hell, which will start off a new series LEAGUE OF GUARDIANS out April of 2012.
Let's take a peek at the JAGUAR WARRIOR series and the first book of the upcoming LEAGUE OF GUARDIANS series to see what the books are all about.
"His Darkest Hunger" - JAGUAR WARRIORS - Book 1
"His Darkest Embrace" - JAGUAR WARRORS - Book 2
"His Darkest Salvation" - JAGUAR WARRIORS - Book 3
"Wicked Road to Hell" - LEAGUE OF GUARDIANS - Book 1
Now that you know more about these amazing books, let's get to the interview so we can learn more about the great author behind them…..
Book Monster Reviews/LITERAL ADDICTION: Hi Juliana! Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to drop by and spend some time with us! We’re so happy to have you with us today!
Juliana Thanks so much for having me!
Book Monster Reviews/LITERAL ADDICTION: We always like to start out by getting to know you a little bit better.
Q1): Can you tell us 3 things about yourself that we can't find out on the internet, in your bio, etc?
2) What are some other hobbies and interests you like to do when you're not writing?
Juliana: Music is a huge part of my life and I still sing occasionally in an 80’s tribute rock band. I love to read of course but I also enjoy family time and playing baseball in our local ladies league.
3) When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
Juliana: I think the first time I dreamt of writing was as a teen. I saved my money and bought myself a typewriter and fooled around on it but I wasn’t disciplined enough. Boys and music took center stage for a while and writing was pushed to the backburner. But the seed was planted and it’s something that came back to me later in life.
4) Do you have any interesting writing quirks or something you must have with you to start the writing process?
Juliana: I have no quirks per say but I do need absolute silence to write. I tend to talk out loud and can’t have any distractions. Especially NO music! I’d end up humming along and the writing would go out the window.
5) Can you please tell us more about the awesome little rock band you have going on with your family?
6) What are some of the books you have in your TBR pile right now?
Juliana: I am currently making my way through the first four books the Song of Fire and Ice series by George R Martin. Still waiting to be read, Angel Burn (YA) Body of Sin by Eve Silver, and some contemporaries by Susan Elisabeth Phillips.
7) Name one person that has always stood by you and supported you during your career?
Juliana: My parents. Oh and my husband…so 3? J
8) If you could have one super power, what would you want it to be and why that one?
Juliana: I’d love to be able to teleport anywhere in the world whenever I wanted. The thought of waking up and deciding to go to Australia and poof, you’re there? Very cool!
Book Monster Reviews/LITERAL ADDICTION: Know we'd like to ask you some questions about your books.
9) For the readers out there that are new to your books, can you please give us some more detailed information about who the JAGUAR WARRIORS are and what the series is about?
Juliana: The Jaguar Warriors series focused on three shifter brothers, Jaxon, Jagger and Julian Castille. Each book features a different brother and their quest to find love, but there is an over reaching story arc that threads throughout each book.
Basically the premise is the battle against evil and Cormac O’Hara’s plot to hook up with a dubious jaguar shifter clan, the DaCosta’s in order to well, take over the world.
Lots of otherworld characters exist: Vampires, shifters, demons, sorcerers, werewolves. You name it!
9) Can you tell us about your new upcoming series LEAGUE OF GUARDIANS?
Juliana: Sure! I’m very excited about this new series. This is a blurb about the premise:
For millennia the struggle between light and dark, the upper and lower realms, has been policed by a secret group of warriors culled from every fabric of existence. They are both otherworld and human, male and female. They are light and dark themselves and known to each other as the League of Guardians. Their pledge, to protect the line between dominions and make sure neither side grows too powerful. If they fall, so shall the earth, the heavens and hell. And there will be no more.
I have a prequel novella coming out February of 2012. It will explain things a little more. I’ve tentatively titled it, Shades of Grey, but this might change so anyone interested can check my website as I update the information.
I came up with this concept because I needed something for Declan O’Hara. He is a sorcerer who is in all of my jaguar warrior books and is a very popular character. Wicked Road to Hell comes out in May of 2012 and everyone will finally be able see what happened to him after His Darkest Salvation ended! This book sets up the new series nicely. I’m currently working on the second book in this series, King of the Damned and am having a blast
10) How many books do you have planned for the series?
Juliana: Right now there are 2 novella’s and 2 full length books and then hopefully as many as my readers want!
11) What can we expect as the series progresses?
Juliana: The world has expanded a bit, but as with my jaguar books, I love writing about all sorts of creatures. Each book will have a romance that is key to the story and I’m excited at all the possibilities. Wicked takes place in New Orleans and well, Hell, and King of the Damned takes place in Salem. The first novella, takes place in purgatory!
12) Can you tell us a little about your BLACK OPAL series? Do you plan to add more books to this series?
Juliana: The Black Opals is a time travel series about a group of warrior women who have the ability to time shift. Their job is to make sure that rogue time shifters—those who would travel among the known worlds, either back in time or into the future—do not corrupt the flow of time for ill gain.
As the series opens, their enemies have figured out who their predestined mates are and are trying to assassinate them. So, they’ve got to save their mates or their line of warrior women might die out.
13) Is there a book you have written that you consider a personal favorite; maybe one that has some sentimental value to you when it was written?
Juliana: I think His Darkest Hunger. It was the first book I’d ever written. I thought I’d give it a try and well, I signed with an agent immediately and we sold to Harpercollins 2 months later. Because of that, I’ll always think fondly of Jaxon and Libby. It truly shows that if you’ve got a dream, don’t hesitate…go for it because you never know where you’ll end up.
14) What question have you always wanted to be asked in an interview and never have been? Can you answer that for us?
Juliana: Honestly, I’ve written so many that I can’t think of anything off the bat. What is the craziest thing I’ve ever done? Well, I can’t share that J
15) Is there anything specific you would like to say to your readers?
Juliana: Just that I’m so grateful for all the wonderful readers who’ve taken the time to write to me! I love getting email and interacting with them and I’ve met some very cool people since becoming an author.
Thank you so much Juliana for taking time out of your busy schedule to sit down and talk to us. We would love to have you back in 2012 to help you promote and celebrate the release of "Wicked Road to Hell".
Juliana: I’d totally be up for that! I’m uber excited about this new series and hope that I can show off the cover real soon! Declan looks amazing!
