Q&A Interview and Giveaway with Sophie Jordan

Hello everyone!  LITERAL ADDICTION and Book Monster Reviews are proud to welcome NEW YORK TIMES and USA Today Bestselling author Sophie Jordan (a.k.a Sharie Kohler) to our sites today!

Sophie began writing in the back of her high school Spanish class. Her passion and adolescent dreams led her to pursue a degree in English and History. After several years teaching afterwards, she decided it was time to pursue her long-held dream of writing.

Now a full time author, she writes historical romances and Young Adult fiction under the name, Sophie Jordan, and paranormal romance under Sharie Kohler. She believes her decision to write paranormal romances stems from her long-sustained love of horror movies (big fan of Alfred Hitchcock!) and a good love story.

She resides in Houston with her family, juggling deadlines, the demanding needs of her children, and a husband who loves her cooking. Amid the happy chaos, she finds time to write...

As Sharie Kohler, she is the proud creator of the MOON CHASERS series which currently has 5 installments, the latest of which-- “Night Falls on the Wicked” –was just released on August 30, 2011.

As Sophie Jordan writing historical romance, she is the creator of the FORGOTTEN PRINCESSES and THE PENWICH SCHOOL FOR VIRTUOUS GIRLS series.  The FORGOTTEN PRINCESSES series has 1 book, “Wicked in Your Arms”.  THE PENWICH SCHOOL FOR VIRTUOUS GIRLS series has 3 books-“Sins of a Wicked Duke”, “In Scandal They Wed”, and “Wicked Nights with a Lover”.

As Sophie Jordan for young adults, she has created the FIRELIGHT series.  FIRELIGHT currently has 2 books.  The latest, “Vanish”, was just dropped on September 6, 2011.

For those of you not yet familiar with Sophie or Sharie’s work, we thought we’d give you the synopsis of the 3 last books in THE PENWICH SCHOOL FOR VIRTUOUS GIRLS, MOON CHASERS, and FIRELIGHT series.

“Wicked Nights with a Lover” Synopsis:
What should a proper lady do when she believes her days are numbered?
Step One: Take a Lover . . .
After being told she will not survive beyond the year's end, prim and lovely Marguerite Laurent intends to live what remains of her life to the very fullest. Though she may never know love, she will know passion—and she agrees to a whirlwind romance with a former admirer. But hours before embarking upon her grand adventure, Marguerite is abducted—by an unscrupulous rogue who boldly announces his intentions to bed and wed her before the week is out!
Step Two: Live With No Regrets . . .
Ash Courtland pulled himself up from the gutter to become a successful man of business, and now he wants revenge on his one-time partner for betraying him. Still, his enemy's bewitching daughter is most certainly not about to surrender her innocence to the infuriating—if shockingly attractive—cad who took her captive. Yet with no more than a touch, Ash makes her tremble with desire . . . and resisting the heat of his passion could cost Marguerite her last, best chance for ecstasy.

“Night Falls on the Wicked” Synopsis:
Darby lives her life below the radar, moving from town to town in the coldest climates, eluding the demons that hunt her—and never allowing herself to get close to anyone. Now, in frigid isolation, Darby waits tables in a small town and tries to forget who she is—what she is—and the danger forever nipping at her heels. Until a new danger finds her—a lycan pack whose distant howls have the locals on edge. But the call of the lycans has also drawn a handsome, menacing stranger. . . .
For years, Niklas has searched for the bloodthirsty pack that murdered his mother and infected him. Darby is overwhelmed by his raw appeal and dangerous strength. Niklas senses her need and vulnerability . . . and together they give in to the hungry attraction blazing between them—but desire this fierce brings dangers of its own. When Darby is targeted by the lycans, the stakes are higher than ever—and Niklas is not about to lose another woman he loves to their evil bloodlust.

“Vanish” Synopsis:
To save the life of the boy she loves, Jacinda did the unthinkable: She betrayed the most closely-guarded secret of her kind. Now she must return to the protection of her pride knowing she might never see Will again—and worse, that because his mind has been shaded, Will’s memories of that fateful night and why she had to flee are gone.

Back home, Jacinda is greeted with hostility and must work to prove her loyalty for both her sake and her family’s. Among the few who will even talk to her are Cassian, the pride’s heir apparent who has always wanted her, and her sister, Tamra, who has been forever changed by a twist of fate. Jacinda knows that she should forget Will and move on—that if he managed to remember and keep his promise to find her, it would only endanger them both. Yet she clings to the hope that someday they will be together again. When the chance arrives to follow her heart, will she risk everything for love?

In bestselling author Sophie Jordan’s dramatic follow-up to Firelight, forbidden love burns brighter than ever.

Sufficiently intrigued?  How about we learn some more about this bestselling author and her books?

LITERAL ADDICTION/Book Monster Reviews:  Hi Sophie!  We’re very happy to have you here today, and are excited to help you promote “Vanish” and your latest MOON CHASERS novel as Sharie Kohler, “Night Falls on the Wicked”!  We like to start out by finding out a bit more about our guest author, and then we’ll dig into the book and series…
Q1): Can you tell us 3 things about yourself that we couldn’t find out easily on the Internet?
SOPHIE: Hmm, here goes:
1)   I hate ... tomatoes.
2)  I was into drama in high school … both as an actor and on the directing side. I was cast in Casablanca my junior year, and I student directed Twelve Angry Men my senior year.
3)  I know how to drive a tractor – or at least I used to.
Q2):  Did anyone or anything special inspire you to become an author?
SOPHIE:  Just books in general. Any time I read a really great book that transported me I felt inspired to become an author.

Q3):  What are some of your hobbies or things that you enjoy doing when you’re not writing or taking care of other author business?
SOPHIE:
1)   Cooking.  I love inventing new dishes.
2)  Spending time with my family. I have young children, so they occupy a lot of my time. Happily so.
3)  Traveling. Hubby and both love getting away and visiting new places.
4)   I love watching movies – I think it’s very connected to creating books. It’s all story-telling.
5)  I’m a member of a wine club. I love getting together with these ladies and talking intelligently about wine.
Q4):  What is your idea of the perfect night?
SOPHIE:  Hm, dinner out (sushi or Mexican food) and a movie with my husband and/or friends.  Nothing complicated.
Q5):  Were any specific influences or inspiration behind the creation of the MOON CHASERS and FIRELIGHT series?
SOPHIE:
The MOON CHASERS series started a while back. I remember googling on the internet … researching and looking for ideas, and I came across a site that gave tips for what to do if you were infected by a werewolf. Awesome stuff! It led to the idea for MARKED BY MOONLIGHT.

The idea for the Firelight series was triggered by my love for young adult fiction. I knew I wanted to write a YA with a romance at the core and a paranormal element. When I stumbled upon the idea of dragons, I just thought that it was something untapped in YA (excluding the fantasy genre) and I could put my own spin on it.

Q6):  How many books do you have planned for each series?

SOPHIE:  Not sure about the MOON CHASERS. Book #6 is up next, and it’s Darius’s long-awaited book.
The Firelight series is a trilogy, so you can expect Jacinda’s story to wrap up in the third book, releasing fall 2012. After that, we shall see ….
Q7):  Can you tell us a little bit about what we can expect as each series progresses?
SOPHIE: The MOON CHASERS continues to build within its paranormal world. It began with only lycans. Now there are hybrid lycans, empaths, demons, witches. The paranormal world is ever-expanding. The stakes keep getting higher. And the romance always stays hot. J
In the FIRELIGHT, book#1, the reader met Jacinda, a draki (descendant of dragons) who is the last of her kind who can breathe fire. In the first book she’s pulled between the human world and her draki pride. She falls for Will, a draki hunter – yep, you can imagine the inherent danger in doing that!
In book #2 (VANISH) Jacinda’s story continues. The stakes are higher. Will’s still there, but so is Cassian, a draki like Jacinda. The hunters are still after her … as are some of the draki. She’s got tough choices to make.
Coming in the third book is a new enemy … or rather, one that’s been faceless until now – the enkros (those who butcher and use draki parts for research/medicine/science). Again, more/new dangers … and the stakes continue to rise.
Q8):  What were some of the challenges (research, literary, psychological, logistical, etc) in bringing both the MOON CHASERS and FIRELIGHT series to life?
SOPHIE:  As so much of this is fictional, there’s not too much research required. The real challenge (in both series) rests in creating these elaborate “paranormal” worlds. Keeping my mythology straight is key. That requires creating a reference guide for each series. It’s even trickier in the Firelight series because the characters are the same throughout the series. I just keep adding in more layers, more facts, etc. I have to make sure all my details are consistent.

Q9):  What question have you always wanted to be asked in an interview, but have never been asked?  How would you answer it?
SOPHIE:  Haha … you’re good. Well, nothing leaps to mind. Um, favorite dessert? Anything with peanut butter. J

Q10):  Is there anything specific you’d like to say to your readers while we have you here today?

SOPHIE:  Just thanks for all your support of my books. It means a lot. So glad I’ve find an audience in all of you!

Oh! I didn't know that Sophie Jordan writes PNR too! It's kinda confusing when writers write different genres under a different name!

Love the sound of the Firelight series; just adore books that have anything to do with dragons. Gotta check out this series.
