Q&A Interview and Giveaway with Karin Tabke/Harlow

Hey there Book Monsters and Literal Addicts! Book Monster Reviews and LITERAL ADDICTION are very pleased to welcome author Karin Tabke to our sites today.
National bestselling, award-winning author Karin Tabke isn’t just another author with steamy stories to tell, but a cop’s wife who has “seen it all and heard it all.” Some of the hottest stories come from behind the blue wall of law enforcement rather than from in front of it. Married to a street cop, now retired, Karin is intimate with both and proves it in her sizzling tales of hot cops. Not only are her cops steamy, but so are her sexy knights and bad boy werewolves.
A full-time writer, Karin draws on a lifetime of stories and backdrops that few outside of the law enforcement community ever see, let alone hear about. Controlled chaos now reigns supreme through the pages she creates where hot heroes serve, protect, and pleasure from page one to The End.

For a long time, controlled chaos ruled Karin’s life as well. Busy mother of four, owner of her own successful business and wife to a street cop, she harbored thoughts of twisting plots and hot romantic scenes. Now, with only one child left at home and hubby retired from law enforcement, Karin happily pounds out those steamy scenes at her keyboard.

Still semi-distracted by her adult children (Yay! no more phone calls from the high school!) and her husband now a successful football coach (Yay! No more worrying when he’s out on the street!), Karin turns out stories about hot cops, bold knights, bad boy werewolves, and the women who bring them to their knees.

Karin’s historical romance series BLOOD SWORD LEGACY is a must read for anyone who loves tales of yore when men were men and women were women, and love DID conqueror all. Her dark, erotic BLOOD MOON RISING paranormal romance trilogy is best described as “Sons of Anarchy meets Rise of Lycans”.  The BLOOD MOON RISING trilogy only has one book in the series currently, "Blood Law", with the second book "Bloodright" releasing in April 2012.  Her L.O.S.T. series (written asKarin Harlow) is paranormal romantic suspense at its “chilling and sizzling”* best, and currently has two books, "Enemy Lover" and "Enemy Mine" (which was just released on August 30th).  You don’t want to miss any of Karin’s deliciously edgy tales of danger and passion!
Let's take a look at "Blood Law", the first book in the BLOOD MOON RISING TRILOGY by Karin Tabke, and then we'll take a look at the two books in the L.O.S.T. series, "Enemy Lover" and "Enemy Mine", which is written as Karin Harlow.

"Blood Law" synopsis -
For all eternity, only one thing shall separate them—until the Blood Law is avenged…
The coming of the Blood Moon will lead two Lycan packs into war, spur two rival brothers into conflict, and spark an act of vengeance so evil that its effects will be felt for generations.
One woman stands at the center of it all…
As undisputed Alpha, Rafael must choose a life mate to preserve the dominance of his Lycan pack. He never suspected, his mate would be a human, the same wounded, girl-woman he seduces from the brink of death. Falon is a dangerous combination of Lycan and Slayer—beings bred to destroy his kind. Even more, she’s a mesmerizing beauty whose sensuality tempts the seasoned warrior to take unnecessary risks. The primal heat between them is irresistible, yet surrendering to it could destroy them both…for a vengeful foe stands ready in the shadows to fulfill what is rightfully his by Blood Law.

                                                               "Enemy Lover" synopsis -
It’s Jax Cassidy’s first mission for L.O.S.T.—one that will give the former cop who went rogue a chance to prove herself. Her assignment: gain the trust of assassin Marcus Cross . . . eliminate him . . . then take down Marcus’s mentor, Joseph Lazarus, a man with a bold eye on the White House. But the woman who’s known by her team for being a femme fatale succumbs to passion, only to discover Cross’s deadly secret. He’s a vampire, and Joseph Lazarus is his creator.
Left for dead by his platoon in the violent hills of Afghanistan, special ops sniper Marcus Cross was given a second chance at life. His newly heightened skills make him the perfect killing machine, and as Lazarus's right hand man, he’s quickly rising to the top of his dark empire, purging enemies with speed and precision. Only when dangerous beauty Jax Cassidy is sent to bring him in does he begin to question Lazarus’s motives and his own actions. But when Jax’s life is threatened by the one thing that can destroy them both, Marcus must make a bitter choice—her death or his.

"Enemy Mine" synopsis -
While tracking uranium-spinning centrifuges in Kyrgyzstan, L.O.S.T. operative Nikko Cruz is ambushed and left for dead. This means he must be hallucinating when the only woman he ever loved—the woman he was sentenced to death for killing—comes to his rescue.
Half-daemon Selena Guererro has secrets she’d kill for. The most important one, she’s already died to protect. Now she’ll do anything to keep her daughter safe. But she can’t just leave her lost love to perish. She injects Nikko with immortal blood serum, putting herself in grave danger.
When Nikko comes to, he is superhuman and super pissed. The mother of his daughter—the one he thought killed their child—is alive. He wants answers. He wants blood. And despite his best intentions, he wants Selena. He traces her to a mysterious terrorist cell where the spun uranium has surfaced. First, he must retrieve the deadly material. Then he’ll take revenge on his beautiful ex. But when nothing goes as planned, Nikko and Selena find themselves burning with desire . . . and blowing the roof off their separate worlds, human and daemon alike.

The books sound amazing don't they?  Now that we've learned more about the books, let's get to the interview to learn more about Karin…..

Book Monster Reviews/LITERAL ADDICTION:  Hi Karin!  Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to drop by and spend some time with us!  We’re so happy to have you with us today!
Karin:  Thank you for the invite!  So, happy to be here!
Book Monster Reviews/LITERAL ADDICTION:  We like to start out by getting to know our guest authors a little bit better.

Q1):   Can you tell us 3 things about yourself that we can't find out easily on the internet, in your bio, etc?
Karin: I love football, snakes and Patron Silver.

2)  Did anyone or anything in particular inspire you to become a writer?
Karin: My love affair with romance. I was a daydreamer. In high school I started to write my daydreams down and soon they took shape and became stories. The first story I ever wrote is still under my bed!  Where it will stay forever.

3)  What are some of your hobbies/interests, or things that you enjoy doing when you’re not writing?
Karin: I am madly in love with my granddaughter. She is the love of my life. We spend a lot of time together. I have a Cane Corso pup who I love working with. She’s an amazingly intelligent animal.  She has tracking and obedience down as well as a few conformation ribbons.
4)  How long have you been writing?  What genre did you start off writing in?
Karin: I wrote my first book in high school, it was a contemporary romance. Then life got in the way.  It wasn’t until ten years later I wrote a romantic suspense tome, which is also under my bed.  Again, life interrupted and it took another five years before I started again. I haven’t stopped since.

5)  You have written contemporary, historical romance, paranormal romance and paranormal romantic suspense novels.  Which is your favorite genre to write in and why?

Karin: For me it isn’t about genre it’s about the love story. I love writing love stories, regardless of time period or genre.  That said I have a natural historical voice and love the 1066 England era. But I also write what I know, hawt cops (hubby is a retired cop).   ;)
6) What genre do you feel is the most challenging for you to write and why?
Karin: The paranormal suspense. The L.O.S.T. books are more complicated plotwise with a lot of action.  Actually all of my stories have a high level of action, but the L.O.S.T. (Karin Harlow) books have more and it’s complicated.  It’s a challenge to write good chase and fight scenes.
7)  Who are some of your favorite authors and series?
Karin: I love anything by Linda Howard, Sylvia Day’s fallen angel series, and CL Wilson’s Tarian Soul series.

8) What are some of your favorite TV shows and movies?
Karin: I love Dexter, True Blood, Sons of Anarchy, Rescue me, Modern Family and just about any real life crime show. Oh and Castle, the Food Network, Dancing with the Stars and American Idol!

9)What was one of the most surprising things you learned over the course of your career so far?
Karin: That it’s not for the faint of heart. I mean I knew it was going to be tough to see my book on the shelf at my local Barnes and Noble, but dayum it was grueling at times.  Staying on the shelf is proving to be just as difficult.  The industry is changing all around me, but the one constant is that romance readers are just as ravenous as they always were. And I love to feed them!

10)  Do you have a personal favorite amongst all of the books you have written?  Maybe one that has extra sentimental value, etc?
Karin: I love all of my books, but I do have a few favorite couples. Jase and Jade in JADED, Wulfson and Tarian in MASTER OF TORMENT, Jax and Marcus in ENEMY LOVER, Selena and Nikko in ENEMY MINE, and I just wrapped up BLOODRIGHT, which nearly sent me to therapy it’s so emotionally intense.

11)  Can you please give us some more detailed information regarding the BLOOD MOON TRILOGY?  What can we expect as the series progresses?
Karin: I just wrapped up BLOODRIGHT, book two in the series.  It’s Falon and Lucien’s story. Intense, raw, primal, and sexy as hell is all I have to say, and because it is such an intense story, it took me a half of dozen rewrites to get it right.  I’m getting ready to start BLOOD VOW, the last book in the series. I don’t want to give too much away about BLOOD VOW, but I can say this: It’s going to be the ultimate emotional roller coaster ride.

12)What about the L.O.S.T. series? Can you tell us a bit more about that series in your own words and let us know what can we expect as the series progresses?
Karin: We pitched the series as The Dirty Dozen meets Mission Impossible with a paranormal twist.  The L.O.S.T. operatives are human, the stories are set in the human world, but as the L.O.S.T. team discovers in ENEMY LOVER, there are otherworld beings walking among mortals who have their own agenda, agendas not necessarily in the best interest of humans.  If the series progresses, we’ll be introduced to more immortals as each L.O.S.T. operative gets his or her chance to thwart their evil plans.
I’d love to write Rurik’s story as a prequel, same with Joran.

13)  How many books do you have planned for the L.O.S.T. series?
Karin: I have many characters’ stories I want to write. That said, the series’ survival is predicated upon sales numbers. Good numbers = more L.O.S.T. books. Not so good numbers =no more L.O.S.T. books.  It’s all a numbers game.
BMR/LA:  Here that everyone!!!  That means we all need to buy the L.O.S.T. books so we can ensure Karin gets to write more of this awesome series!!
14)  What question have you always wanted to be asked in an interview but have never been asked, and how would you answer that question?
Karin: Hmm, I can think of questions that have been asked that I didn’t want to answer. J
I have been asked some really intelligent, funny, and off beat questions over the years, and answered them all.  Here’s one I haven’t been asked: If you could write from anywhere in the world where would it be and why?  My answer would be, wherever my family is because they are the heart and soul of who I am.  Without them near, I am nothing.

15)  While we have you here, is there anything specific you would like to say to your readers?
Karin: Embrace cliffhanger endings!   ;)
                                                                                                                   Coming April 2012
Thank you so much Karin for taking time out of your busy schedule to sit down and talk to us.  We would love to have you back in April 2012 to help celebrate and promote the release of "Bloodright" if you’d like to come and chat with us again.
Karin:  I’d love to come back!  Thank you for the invite today and thank you in advance for the next time!

Hi, ladies!

So, nice to hear you enjoyed the interview.

Deanna, the release date for BLOODRIGHT was just recently pushed back. I wasn't kidding when I said BLOODRIGHT nearly sent me to a therapist. I needed more time to write it, since it was so complicated. I'm glad I have that time. I think you'll be very happy with the story!

Cliffhanger endings? Hm, I don't know... it's one of the things I gripe about (unless forewarned). I have waited for a series to end BEFORE reading the books due to cliffhanger endings. Actually, one too many cliffhangers have changed my reading habits - I now read the last few pages of a book first just to make sure there aren't any cliffhangers (or to wait until the next book is out before reading the first one).
