Q&A Interview and Giveaway with Gena Showalter

Book Monster Reviews is VERY honored and SUPER excited to welcome USA Today and New York Times Bestselling author Gena Showalter to our blog today!

I have been given the opportunity to help Gena promote and celebrate her four new releases:  "Dark Taste of Rapture" which was released on August 23, "Lord of the Vampires" and "Twisted" which were released August 30 and "The Darkest Surrender" which will be released on September 27, so let's gets started with this honorable task.

Gena Showalter sold her first book at the age of 27 and four years later, became the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of thirteen books.  Today, Gena has published over 30 books in a wide span of genres: paranormal and contemporary romances, young adult novels, and urban fantasy.
Her novels have appeared in Cosmopolitan Magazine, MTV, Seventeen Magazine, and have been translated in French, Italian and Korean. The critics have called her books "sizzling page-turners" and "utterly spellbinding stories", while Showalter herself has been called “a star on the rise”.

Gena currently has six (6) different series out on the market with a few more in the works, as well as a few stand-alone and anthologies.  Her paranormal romance and urban fantasy series are some of the most sought after books on the market.

The first new release on the agenda today is "Dark Taste of Rapture".  It is the 6th Book in the ALIEN HUNTRESS series and was released on August 23.  The Alien Huntress series currently has six (6) books in the series: Book #1- "Awaken Me Darkly", #2- "Enslave Me Sweetly", #3- "Savor Me Slowly", #4- "Seduce the Darkness", #4.5- "Deep Kiss of Winter", #5- "Ecstasy in Darkness" of course #6- "Dark Taste of Rapture".  Here's a brief synopsis of what "Dark Taste of Rapture" is all about.

"Dark Taste of Rapture":
With one caress, he can give unforgettable pleasure . . . or unending pain. . . .
Hector Dean is shaved, tattooed, and totally ripped—and he has a deadly secret. He is a walking weapon, capable of killing with a single brush of his fingertips. Little wonder he’s determined to remain on his own. But Noelle Tremain is a temptation like no other. She is beautiful and rich, with a party girl smile that hides a shocking vulnerability, and from the beginning his sizzling attraction to her is undeniable. For the first time, his stone-cold resistance is tested. But to be with her, he risks destroying her.
When a wealthy businessman is murdered in New Chicago’s seediest district, the two are partnered, and there’s no escaping what they both want: each other. Yet neither Hector nor Noelle knows what to fear more—the killer case, or their own lethal desires. . . .

Next up is "Lord Of The Vampires".  It's the first book in a new series called ROYAL HOUSE OF SHADOWS and was released on August 30, 2011.  The series will consist of four (4) books and each book will be written by a different author.  Here is a brief look into the story of "Lord Of The Vampires"……
"Lord Of The Vampires"
Once upon a time…the Blood Sorcerer  vanquished the kingdom of Elden. To save their children, the queen scattered them to safety and the king filled them with a need for vengeance. Only a magical timepiece connects the four royal heirs…and time is running out.

Nicolai the Vampire is renowned for his virility, but in a cruel twist of fate “The Dark Seducer” has become a sex slave in the kingdom of Delfina—stripped of his precious timepiece and his memory. All that remains is a primal need for freedom, revenge—and the only woman who can help him.
When the wanton vampire summons Jane Parker, she is helpless to obey. She's drawn to his dark sexuality and into his magical realm. But for this human, all is not a fairy tale. For saving Nicolai could mean losing the only man she's ever craved...

Book #2 in the ROYAL HOUSE OF SHADOWS series will be released in October and written by Jill Monroe. Book #3 will be released in November and written by Jessica Anderson, and Book 4 will be written by Nalini Singh and released in December.

Third up is "Twisted", the third book in the INTERTWINED  young adult (YA) series, and it was also released on August 30, 2011.  The INTERWINED  series currently consists of three (3) books:  Book #1- "Intertwined", #2- "Unraveled" and the newest book in the series, Book #3- "Twisted".  Let's take a quick peak and learn what "Twisted is all about…

"Twisted"
His vampire girlfriend might have brought him back to life, but he's never felt more out of control. There's a darkness within him, something taking over…changing him. Worse, because he was meant to die, death now stalks him at every turn. Any day could be his last.
Once upon a time, the three souls trapped inside his head could have helped him. He could have protected himself. But as the darkness grows stronger, the souls grow weaker—just like his girlfriend. The more vampire Aden becomes, the more human Victoria becomes, until everything they know and love is threatened.
Life couldn't get any worse. Could it?

Lastly, but certainly not least, comes the highly anticipated release of "The Darkest Surrender", the eighth book in the LORDS OF THE UNDERWORLD series which will be released on September 27, 2011.

The LORDS OF THE UNDERWORLD series currently has Eight (8) books in the series (plus 3 eBooks and  "Into the Dark" (which has all 3 eBooks printed inside, plus the Darkest Facts).  The prequel, Book #0.5- "The Darkest Fire" (eBook), #1- "The Darkest Night", #2- "The Darkest Kiss", #3- "The Darkest Pleasure", #3.5- "The Darkest Prison" (eBook), #4- "The Darkest Whisper", #4.5- "The Darkest Angel" ( found in the anthology Heart of Darkness), -  #5- "The Darkest Passion", #6- "The Darkest Lie", #7- "The Darkest Secret" and Book #8- "The Darkest Surrender", which will be Strider's story.  Let's take a peek to see what Strider and the demon of Defeat will get themselves into……

"The Darkest Surrender"
The Lords of the Underworld return in this enthralling tale of an immortal warrior determined to win and the beautiful seductress he can’t resist.

Possessed by the demon of Defeat, Strider cannot lose a challenge without suffering unimaginable pain. For him, nothing stands in the way of victory. Until Kaia, an enchanting Harpy, tempts him to the razor’s edge of surrender.

Known among her people as The Disappointment, Kaia must bring home the gold in the Harpy Games or die. Strider is a distraction she can’t afford because he has an agenda of his own – steal first prize, an ancient godly artifact, before the winner can be named. But as the competition heats up, only one prize will matter – the love neither had thought possible…

Now that we've all learned more about Gena's new releases, if you haven't already purchased them, what the heck are you waiting for??   I suggest you put them on your "To Buy NOW List".  Every one of Gena's books are amazing and they just get better and better.  Gena also has some of the best book covers out there with some great eye candy (did you see those LORDS covers…YUMMY!!).  Now,  let's go talk to Gena and get to learn more about the woman behind these incredible stories.

Carla - Book Monster Reviews: Hi Gena.  I'm so excited and honored to have you here with us today on Book Monster.  We are all very excited to get to know you better.  Thank you so very much for taking time out of your busy schedule to sit down and chat with us.Gena:  I’m beyond excited to be here!  Thank you so much for having me.

Carla -Q1): What are 3 things about yourself that we couldn’t find out on the Internet?Gena: 1.  I sometimes like to have dinner foods for breakfast, and breakfast foods for dinner.  2.  When I was a pre-teen, I had a poster of Kirk Cameron.  I kissed it until he had no lips left.  Yeah.  I did.  3. I love the Bible.

Q2): What’s a typical day like in the life of Gena Showalter?

Gena: For years I had the same routine.  Get up, write until my work for the day was done, drinking coffee all the while, then do everything else.  Like eat.  Over the last few months, however, that routine has changed.  Now I get up and do ~not~ drink coffee, then go for a walk, shower (that is, if my family is lucky and I wasn’t struck with inspiration and need to head straight to the computer), then jump into whatever book I’m working on.  I stay there until I’ve met my goal for the day, taking breaks to eat and stretch. I’m trying for a healthier schedule.

Q3): What are some of your favorite things to do when you’re not writing or taking care of other author business?

Gena:  I love to read, watch TV, go to the movies, email bomb my friends (Jill Monroe, Kresley Cole, and PC Cast especially), and phone my friends (same three mentioned).  Every night before bed, my husband and I like to pick a program on DVD and watch a few episodes.  That way, we can power through entire seasons and never have to watch commercials or wait for answers.  Right now we’re watching NCIS.

Q4): What are 2 things that never fail to make you smile, and 2 things that never fail to piss you off?
Gena:  Smile: 1.  My family.  2.  Hitting a new milestone with my books.  Pissed: 1.  When my favorite shows get canceled.  2.  Illness.

Q5):
What are some of your favorite T.V. shows and movies?Gena:  I adore How I Met Your Mother, House, Castle, Drop Dead Diva, Cougar Town, Bones, and many more! And I recently watched Conan, the new movie, and fortified my lust for Jason Momoa.

Q6): You have written so many books in multiple genres and every book is better than the last.  Where do you get all of your inspiration from to create so many different and exciting worlds?
Gena:  First, thank you so much!  Second, inspiration comes from conversations I have, things I overhear, things I see and read, and really, everywhere.  Nothing is safe!

Q7): Do you have any interesting writing quirks or things you must have with you when you start the writing process?
Gena: Once upon a time, I would have said coffee.  Now, having defeated my coffee addiction, I have to say . . . listening to music.  I always have music playing while I’m writing.

Q8): If you had to describe yourself in 5 words what would they be?
Gena:  Obsessed, quirky girl.  Means well.

Q9): If you could have any one super power, what would it be and why that power?
Gena: I change my mind about this all the time (because, yes, I often wonder about it) but today I pick invisibility.  As a determined wall flower, I’d never have to worry about being spotted again <g>  And maybe I’d like to watch (and drool over) Jason Momoa without being labeled a stalker.

Carla - Book Monster Reviews - Now that we've gotten to know more about you Gena, I'm going to ask some questions regarding your books and series.

Q10): The EXTRAORDINARY GIRL and ATLANTIS series are two of my all time favorites, as I'm sure it is for many of your fans out there.  Do you have any plans at all to write more books for both of these series? (pretty please say YES!!)
Gena:  I would love to write a full-length novel about Belle and Rome’s honeymoon.  They are one of those couples I can’t get enough of.  And I would love to write – at the very least – a short story tying up all the loose ends in the Atlantis series.  Right now, neither is in the works but I hope to change that very soon!

Q11): I saw on your blog that Paris' book, (tentatively titled) "The Darkest Seduction", will be next up after Strider's book (Yippee!!).  Inquiring minds want to know if Sienna will be the lucky woman to land the lusty Paris?
Gena: I’ll be spilling all kinds of details about Paris’s book in November, and his heroine is one of them.  Until then, I’ve gotta keep my lips shut.  But I soooo want to talk.  (No, Gena, no. You have to wait.  But . . . but . . . )

Q12): I also saw that you have plans for a LORDS OF THE UNDERWORLD Spin-off series.  Can you please give us a little information about this  series?
Gena: That’s another bit of info I’ll be dishing out in November.  Right now, I’ve got to channel all of my energy into my new and upcoming releases.  I’ve never had so many books release so close together (4!), and it’s been a nail biter.

Q13): How many more books will there be in the LORDS OF THE UNDERWORLD series?
Gena:  I’m not sure on the number, but right now I’m contracted for five more, be they Lords of the Underworld or the spin-off books. One of those is to be Kane’s story, two are spin-offs (for sure).  As for other two, I’m not sure which characters will get them.

Q14): Can you please tell us about "Dating The Undead", the cool new book/magazine that you created with Jill Monroe?
Gena:  This was such a fun, amazing project!  We have articles and stories about how to date creatures of myth, including men from the pages of romances novels.  There’s an exclusive excerpt of The Darkest Seduction, and pictures of beefcake galore!  There are ads for products like Coffin Klein.  There’s even a section where real-life Lords of the Underworld bare all!

Q15): You have a new paranormal YA series coming out in December of 2012 called ALICE IN ZOMBIELAND.  Can you tell us what it's going to be about and what we can expect?
Gena:  Alice in Zombieland features a teenage girl who loses her family in a crash, and wakes up to a world of zombies and zombie slaying, as well as a bad boy who could save or destroy her.  And I have to tell you, I am so in love with this bad boy.  His name is Cole, and I’d be willing to fight Ali for him.

Q16): "Twisted" is now the third book in the INTERWINED series.  How many more books do you have planned for this series?
Gena:  There will be one more book in the Intertwined series, where Aden and the gang discover their ultimate fate.  I do have a spin-off contracted, and think I’ll write about Riley’s werewolf brothers, Max and Nate, who are both cursed by a witch. Anyone they desire sees them as ugly, and anyone they do not desire sees them as beautiful.  This will be a real Beauty and the Beast tale.

Q17): What does the future hold for the ALIEN HUNTRESS series?  Will Dallas ever get his own book?  How many books do you have planned for this series?
Gena: I have two more books contracted in the Alien Huntress series, and really hope one of those belongs to Dallas.  I never know until I sit down to write.  Sometimes characters are stubborn, sometimes they are ready for whatever I dish. So far, Dallas’s hasn’t been ready.  But I think that’s about to change.
Q18): If you can choose a word that best describes your life up to this moment, what would it be?
Gena: Blessed.

Q19): What would you like to say to all of the readers and fans out there?
Gena: Thank you so much for your support and enthusiasm.  I couldn’t do this without you, and I will be forever grateful!
Carla - Book Monster Reviews: Gena, that was so much fun!  Thank you again for coming by today and answering all of our questions.  We would absolutely LOVE for you to come back in 2012 so we can help you promote Paris' book and any other new releases you may have.
Gena: Thank you so much! I would absolutely love to return!

CONTEST:  Gena is very generously giving away a copy of her 3 new releases.  That's right!  You have the opportunity to win a copy of "Dark Taste Of Rapture", "Lord Of The Vampires", and "Twisted."  3 winners will be picked (one winner per book).

Contest will close on Friday, September 9th.  Winners will be announced shortly after.
Contest is open to international fans as well.

I love the cover of DARK TASTE OF RAPTURE with the glittery title - best thing about paper over ebooks.

Years ago, I was at Disneyland, waiting on line for some ride when I noticed a commotion near by. It was Kirk Cameron and he was being interviewed (I later watched the interview on television). The poor boy had to be still while the camera crew adjusted the reflectors and such to light his face just right. That was when I knew modeling and acting must be hard work.

I remember buying my first LOTU book and it said it was a trilogy. Then I got to the end of book 3 and was screaming "NO! You can't end it there!!!!". Luckily Gena & her publisher's agreed with me :)

I do love how each series is so different yet the realism of the world and characters never fails to grab me.

Thank you for an awesome giveaway -Gena Showalters is one of those authors that you just read everything that they write - and also books that they recommend because you just like the way they read and write :)

Amazing interview, Dark tastes of Rapture was definitely one of the best so far in the Alien Huntress novels. Hope Dallas is next!

This is my introduction to Gena Showalter and her books, I don't mind telling you that I'm excited. Between the book intro's, comments and the interview; It looks like I have an awful lot of catching up to do.

Atlantis and Alien Huntress is my ultimate favorite with Lords close behind. It seems that Gena is the Midos of paranormal romance, anything she touches turns to gold! Love her and love her books, I can't wait to dig into Vampire Lords.
