Q&A Interview and Contest with Erin Kellison

Hello everyone!  LITERAL ADDICTION and Book Monster Reviews are proud to welcome Erin Kellison to our sites today!
Erin Kellison is the author of the SHADOW series, which includes Shadow Bound and Shadow Fall, as well as the upcoming Shadowman (Sept 2011), and the e-novella Shadow Touch (June 2011). Stories have always been a central part of Erin's life. She attempted her first book in sixth grade, a dark fantasy adventure, and she still has those early hand-written chapters. She graduated summa cum laude with a degree in English Language and Literature and went on for a masters in Cultural Anthropology, focusing on oral storytelling. When she had children, nothing scared her anymore, so her focus shifted to writing fiction.
The SHADOW series is a poetically written Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance series with a unique plotline that grabs your interest from the first page and makes you clamor to get the next book immediately.  Here are the synopses of the books:
BOOK #1-“Shadow Bound”:
Some people will do anything to avoid it. Even trade their immortal souls for endless existence.

Secretly, inexorably, they are infiltrating our world, sucking the essence out of unsuspecting victims with their hideous parody of a kiss.

Adam Thorne founded the Institute to study and destroy his monster of a brother, but the key to its success is held in the pale, slender hand of a woman on the run. There is something hauntingly different about Talia O’Brien, her unknowing sensuality, her uncanny way of slipping into Shadow.

This is the place between life and what comes after - a dark forest of fantasy, filled with beauty, peril, mystery. And Talia is about to open the door.

BOOK #2-“Shadow Fall”:

Custo Santovari accepted pain, blood, even death, to save his best friend. But a man with all his sins just isn't cut out to be an angel.

One moment he's fleeing Heaven; the next, he's waking up stark naked in Manhattan. In the middle of a war. Called there by a woman who's desperately afraid of the dark.

It gathers around Annabella as she performs, filled with fantastic images of another world, bringing both a golden hero and a nightmare lover.

He pursues her relentlessly, twisting her desires even as she gives herself to the man she loves. Because each of us has a wild side, and Annabella is about to unleash the beast.

BOOK #2.5-“Shadow Touch”:
It is bleeding into our world, bringing with it banshees, wraiths, fae from the twisting forests of Twilight. But Elllie’s problem is a very different kind of phenomenon...
It ought to be attached to her; instead it has a life of its own. And her dark mirror image is a wild thing, willfully seducing the very man Ellie hoped could help.
Cam has devoted his career to exploring the boundaries between this world and the Hereafter. But nothing could prepare him for the mischief and mayhem of a soul split in two.
Who will give in first: the man struggling to unite two halves of one fascinating female; the shadow fighting for freedom to experience the thrill of every emotion; or the woman who is about to discover her own deepest desires?

BOOK #3-“Shadowman”:

They haunt the halls of the Segue Institute, terrifying the living, refusing to cross over. But one soul is driven by a very different force.

It survives even death. And Kathleen O’Brien swore she would return to those she was forced to leave too soon.

He broke every rule to have her in life; now he will defy the angels to find her in death.

The Gate

Forging it is his single hope of being reunited with his beloved, but through it an abomination enters the world. Leaving a trail of blood and violence, the devil hunts her too. Pursued through realms of bright fantasy and dark reality, Kathleen is about to be taken.

Well, now that we’ve got you all online downloading and buying the series, how about we get to the interview and learn more about the incredible woman behind the SHADOW series shall we!?

LITERAL ADDICTION/Book Monster Reviews:  Hi Erin!  We’re very happy to have you here today, and are excited to help you promote “Shadowman”!
ERIN: Thank you so much for having me. And thanks to everyone for stopping by!
LITERAL ADDICTION/Book Monster Reviews:  We like to start out by finding out a bit more about our guest author, and then we’ll dig into the books…
Q1): Can you tell us 3 things about yourself that we couldn’t find out easily on the Internet?
ERIN: Hmmm… I have a band-aid over the camera on my laptop because I am paranoid that someone is looking at me. I can’t stand tension music in movies, so I plug my ears or mute the TV. I would love to be able to sing, but I can’t stay on key to save my life.
Q2):  What are 3 things that never fail to make you smile?
ERIN: Kid big, Kid little, Husband
Q3):  What’s your idea of the perfect night?
ERIN: Looking at the stars with my family.
Q4):  What are some of your hobbies or things that you enjoy doing when you’re not working, writing or taking care of other business?
ERIN: Love to read, watch TV and movies—anything with a story. I’ve been trying to get into photography with my husband to get away from words and to have a shared hobby. Would help if I could find the camera.

Q5):  If you were to write an auto-biography, what would you title it?

ERIN: Erin Kellison: A Case Study in Crazy
Q6):  Who are some of your favorite authors, and what’s in your TBR pile right now?
ERIN: Oh, so many I could even start to name them without leaving out a gazillion others. My classic favorites are Lord of the Rings, Jane Eyre, and Pride and Prejudice. I hid Stephen King and Dean Koontz under the covers at night when I was a teen. And when I get a little time (ha!) I’m going to read book 2 of the Game of Thrones series. Loved book 1, love the TV show.
Q7):  If you could spend the day with one of your characters, who would you want it to be, and what would you want to do?
ERIN: Custo from Shadow Fall. He’s a little rough around the edges, nice to look at, and has a great sense of humor. A night out in the big city would be fun.
Q8):  What has been the most surprising thing about your career so far?

ERIN: Finding my book in the bookstore. Or a library. You know, where real books are. Not my imaginary ones.
Q9):  What’s a typical work day like for you?  Do you have a routine; is there something that you absolutely have to have with you to get through your day, etc?
ERIN: I get my kids and dh out the door, then hit email, FB, Twitter, then write. Must have snacks (peanut m&ms are a staple). Kids come home, and my writing day is over. I might do a blog at night while I watch TV.
Q10):  With Fantasy being such a popular genre these days, what about it fascinates and draws you personally?

ERIN: I’ve always loved fantasy. Grew up on it. I think it’s the alternate worlds, maybe the sense of possibility. I’ve always loved What If? questions, and fantasy gives me the most options for answering them.
Q11):  What has been the toughest criticism and greatest compliment given to you so far as an author?
ERIN: Toughest criticism: WTF? Greatest compliment: That I was someone’s favorite author
LITERAL ADDICTION/Book Monster Reviews:  O.K, now we’ll ask some questions directly related to “Shadowman” and the SHADOW series…  J
Q12):  Was there any specific inspiration that lead to the concept and creation of the SHADOW series?
ERIN: I was trying to come up with a paranormal/mythological being that had some of the same darkness and pathos I love in vampires. I found it in a banshee. One spark and I had the idea. I wanted to get writing immediately.
Q13):  What were the challenges (research, literary, psychological, logistical, etc) in bringing the SHADOW series to life?
ERIN:  My biggest challenge for the past couple of years has been finding uninterrupted time to write. I had two little ones at home and catching scraps of naptime was hard. This year however, both are in full-day elementary school! Yeah, baby!
Q14):  Do you have a favorite book of the series so far; maybe one that had special meaning to you, etc?

ERIN: Shadowman. A lot was going on with my extended family during the writing, and so little bits of my heart are scattered throughout.

Q15):  How many books do you have planned for the series?

ERIN: I am working on book four now, title under consideration with my editor J,and I am contracted for a fifth. Also, I’ve got three more novellas coming in Cam and Ellie’s story (began with Shadow Touch).
Q16):  What can we look forward to as the series progresses?
ERIN: I’m going into the dark world of magekind, families with Shadow (magic) in their blood.
Q17):  What else is in the works for Erin Kellison outside of the SHADOW series?
ERIN:  I’ve got a couple other worlds I’m working on, but I’m not saying...
Q18):  Is there a question that you have always wanted to be asked in an interview but have never been asked?  How would you answer that question?

ERIN: What other occupation would you like to try? Movie reviewer!
Q19):  In a day, far, FAR away when you decide to stop writing and retire, what thoughts do you want to have about the legacy you left behind and the career that you had?
ERIN: I’d love to be able to look back and discover that I’d written many books (good ones!) that lots and lots and lots of readers enjoyed.
Q20):  Is there anything specific you would like to say to your readers while we have you here today?
ERIN: My Shadow series has a kind of home base location in the Segue Institute, a paranormal research facility dedicated to the creatures and phenomena that result from the recent influx of Shadow into the world. Readers can check it out, meet characters, play games, and more at the Segue site:
LITERAL ADDICTION/Book Monster Reviews:  Erin, thank you so much for being with us today!  The SHADOW series is phenomenal and we’re very excited for more.  We’d LOVE to have you back to help promote the next installment &/or ANY of your other upcoming releases if you’re interested…
ERIN:  Thank you so much! And I’d absolutely LOVE to come back. Book four comes out next July. What have you got open around that time?

Judging from the temps we awoke to this morning in Maine, fall has arrived or will soon.

Your books would be perfect to read with a hot beverage, a warm blanket and great music.

Appreciate the opportunity to enter and to dream of winning because without hope life would be so boring.
