Q&A Interview and Giveaway with Eve Silver

Hey there Book Monsters and Literal Addicts! Book Monster Reviews and LITERAL ADDICTION are very pleased to welcome national bestselling author Eve Silver to our sites today.

Eve has been praised for her “edgy, steamy, action-packed” books, darkly sexy heroes and take-charge heroines. Her work has garnered starred reviews from Publishers Weekly and Library Journal, plus two RT Book Reviews Reviewers’ Choice Awards, and in 2007 she received Library Journal’s Best Genre Fiction Award. The first book in Eve’s Otherkin/Sins series, Sins of the Heart, was recently nominated for the Romance Writers of America® RITA® Award.

Eve lives with her husband, two sons, an energetic Airedale terrier and an exuberant border collie/shepherd.

Eve is the author of the paranormal romance series COMPACT OF SORCERERS ("Demon's Kiss" & "Demon's Hunger") and DARK GOTHIC ("Dark Desires", "His Dark Kiss", "Dark Prince", “His Wicked Sins” and “Seduced by a Stranger”), as well as the OTHERKIN/SINS series ("Sins of the Heart", "Sins of the Soul", "Sins of the Flesh" and her newest book "Body of Sin", which is being released on 8/23/11, and which we will be gladly helping to promote today).  Eve also writes post-apocalyptic novels under the pseudonym Eve Kenin.

For those of you not familiar with Eve's OTHERKIN/SIN series, here's a look at the four books in the series:
"Sins of the Heart" - Half human, half god, Dagan Krayl is the Underworld's most powerful soul reaper. When one of his brothers is murdered, Dagan must use every ounce of his power to hunt down those responsible for his brutal death. But he must move swiftly—and carefully—if he's to have any chance of resurrecting his brother.
Yet that resurrection could wreak havoc on the mortal world. As an Otherkin, Roxy Tam has sworn to protect the human race, and it's her mission to stop Dagan. But when she sees him face-to-face, she realizes that she has seen him once before—a meeting that changed her life forever.
Neither Dagan nor Roxy expect to join forces for the sake of mankind. Or to have their loyalties tested as they struggle against the potent desire that threatens to consume them both….

"Sins of the Soul" - Alastor Krayl's world shattered when he learned that his father was the Underworld god of chaos and evil. All that saved him from self-destruction were his newfound brothers and the bond they shared as soul reapers. So when one of his brothers is murdered, vengeance becomes Alastor's obsession. And the enigmatic Naphré Kurata, a witness—or is she the killer?—has the answers he seeks.
A reluctant Underworld enforcer, Naphré trusts no one, especially not a seductive soul reaper who makes her burn with lust. Torn between duty and desire, she fights to keep her secrets safe from Alastor, even as she longs to surrender.
"Sins of the Flesh" - The blood of the Underworld lord of evil runs through soul reaper Malthus Krayl's veins. Raised to fight for survival and to kill for victory, he can destroy anyone who poses a threat. As he searches for the one responsible for his brother's murder, he refuses to succumb to any distraction…until his sworn enemy crosses his path and tempts him beyond all reason.
Calliope Kane, a Daughter of Aset, has a personal hatred for soul reapers. Their savage attack against her family still haunts her. But only Malthus can help her find the traitors of her kind, and only she can help him hunt the source of betrayal amongst the reapers. As they unite, the danger grows closer…and the passion between them ignites
"Body of Sin" - Once the favorite son of the Lord of the Underworld, Lokan Krayl held enviable privileges and powers. Powers that led to a devastating betrayal—murder.
Resurrected by his immortal brothers, Lokan is still trapped in purgatory. He has no way to contact his family. He has no answers. In order to find the truth about his death, and who killed him, he must escape his prison. And there's only one way out: through the twelve gates of his eternal enemy, Osiris.
But Lokan has help. Bryn Carr, the woman who duped him once before, is his beautiful yet unwanted guide. She's been sent by his brothers to aid him. She's his last hope. Lokan must place his fate—and that of the mortal and immortal worlds—in the hands of the one woman he can never trust.

Doesn't the OTHERKIN series sound AMAZING?  Now that you're all adding Eve's books to your TBR list (and we advise you to read them ASAP), let's get to the interview so we can learn more about Eve and what she has in store for the series.

Book Monster Reviews/LITERAL ADDICTION:  Hi Eve!  Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to drop by and spend some time with us!  We’re very excited to have you with us today!

Eve:  Thanks so much for having me. I’m thrilled to be here.

Book Monster Reviews/LITERAL ADDICTION:  We always like to start out by getting to know our guest authors a little bit better.

Q1):   Can you tell us 3 things about yourself that we can't find out on the internet, in your bio, etc?

Eve: My favorite game is Boggle. I love to dance. I recently had the opportunity to shoot a Beretta, M4 automatic and M249SAW while I was researching weapons for my heroines.

2)  What are some hobbies and interests that you enjoy when you're not writing?

Eve:  This summer I’ve taken up kayaking and I head to the water every chance I get. It’s wonderfully relaxing, but I can kick it up to exhilarating if I head out in choppy water or push myself to paddle faster, harder, racing through the waves or across the surface of a glassy lake. I love taking my two enormous dogs for long walks. I love hanging out with friends and family with good conversation, good food and a nice bottle of wine. And, of course, I love to read.

3)  When did you first realize that you wanted to be a writer?

Eve:  I wrote my first book when I was nine. It was the story of an unwanted teddy bear that found a new and loving home. I actually sent that book to a publisher and received my very first rejection letter.

4)  Do you have any writing quirks or things that you can't go without to start the writing process?

Eve:  Nope. I sit down. I write. When I first started writing romance my kids were small, so I couldn’t wait for the perfect moment, for silence, for inspiration. I just wrote when I could steal a few moments. So my process evolved in a way that allowed me to just write.

5)  Do you listen to music when you write?  If so, what musical artists help inspire the creative genius?

Eve:  I don’t listen to music when I write, though I do take music breaks to recharge. I don’t have a specific playlist or a list of artists. But I get energized by a pounding beat with lots of bass.

6)  What are some of your favorite T.V. shows and/or movies?

Eve:  This is a tough one because there are so many. Back in the day, I was a die-hard X-Files fan. I love Dexter. True Blood is a lot of fun. I was a CSI (Vegas) fan girl until Grissom left. I enjoy anime; some faves are Hellsing, Great Teacher Onizuka, Full Metal Panic, Last Exile. Right now, I’ve gone old-school and I’m making my way through Evangelion.

7)  Who are some of your favorite authors and series?

Eve: I have way too many fave authors to list them all here. Instead I’ll mention some recent reads that I enjoyed: SERENDIPITY by Carly Phillips, ONE NIGHT IN LONDON by Caroline Linden, BEAUTIFUL CREATURES by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, GRAVEMINDER by Melissa Marr, THE IRON DUKE by Meljean Brook. I love Stacia Kane’s Downside Ghosts series and Karen Marie Moning’s Fever series. I adore Marjorie Liu and Lara Adrian. I love the comic HACK/SLASH by Tim Seeley… I could go on and on!

8)  If you could have any one super power, what would it be and why?

Eve: The power to heal. I’d love to heal broken hearts and spirits, broken limbs, broken bodies. I’d love to heal the earth. I’d love to heal the oceans. I’d love to heal those who carry hatred and prejudice in their hearts and minds like a disease. Sorry…did I get too sappy?

9)  Do you have a Bucket List?  If so, can you share your top 3 items with us?

Eve: I don’t have a bucket list.

10)  What are 3 things that never fail to make you smile?

Eve:  My husband; no matter how rough my day has been, he can always make me laugh. My kids’ laughter; when they laugh, I can’t help but smile. Sunshine.

Book Monster Reviews/LITERAL ADDICTION:  Now we'd like to ask you some questions about the OTHERKIN/SIN series.

11)  For our readers who have not read the series yet, can you please give us some more detailed information about the OTHERKIN/SIN series?

Eve: The universe of the Otherkin/Sins books is mythology-based. I’ve incorporated elements of Egyptian, Japanese, Norse, Greek and hints of Mayan and other mythologies. The Underworld is divided up in much the same way criminal elements of a city are divided by turf. All the Underworld gods want their piece of the pie. And to a degree, they band together to balance the vast power of the lord of chaos and evil, Sutekh.

In an effort to further his power and extend it more fully to the human realm, Sutekh sired four sons on three different human women. He raised those sons in different worlds until they were grown and could take their rightful places as princes among his army of soul reapers. Dagan is the hero of book 1, SINS OF THE HEART. He was trapped in the Underworld, raised by demi-demons, never learning of his human heritage until he was grown. That left him with a few problems with emotion.

Alastor is the hero of book 2, SINS OF THE SOUL. He was raised by a wealthy, titled human family until Sutekh blew in like a storm and ripped Alastor’s sheltered, privileged world to shit. Which left Alastor with a fetish for order—he likes to be in control.

Malthus is the hero of book 3, SINS OF THE FLESH. He was raised in abject poverty and he learned to fend for himself early on. He took to petty thievery, then pirating. Mal hasn’t changed much. Some habits are hard to kick. Mal has a fondness for the adrenaline high and for walking way too close to the razor’s edge.

In the first three Otherkin/Sins books, Dagan, Alastor and Mal search for the remains of their murdered youngest sibling, Lokan Krayl. They want to take revenge on his killers, and they want to bring him back. The first three books were released as a trilogy because while each book is a stand-alone romance, the three together tell the story of the hunt for the murderer. By the end of book three, the reader knows who killed Lokan, they know how and why.

But Lokan is the son of an Underworld god. There’s a chance to bring him back and his brothers want to do exactly that. Throughout the three books readers learned of his suffering, and the feedback I heard was that everyone wanted Lokan’s story. In BODY OF SIN readers get that story.

12) Where do you get your information or ideas for the OTHERKIN/SIN series?

Eve: I started out wondering how the mythologies and Underworld tales of all cultures and religions could fit into a single Underworld. I wondered about turning things upside down: What if the villains were the heroes? I wondered what would happen if the only person you could trust was your enemy. And I started writing SINS OF THE HEART (book 1). Then I followed threads of mythological reference and became immersed in stories and lore of Japanese mythology and that inspired many elements in SINS OF THE SOUL (book 2). By that point, the world was quite vast, and I drew on that vastness as I wrote SINS OF THE FLESH (book 3).

For BODY OF SIN, I returned to Egyptian mythology and followed a soul’s passage through the Underworld, including the terrifying tests and gates the soul would face.

The heroes that arose in the Otherkin/Sins books are interesting characters. They have issues, to say the least. And each one of them needs a woman who can meet and match them, someone who can stand toe-to-toe with them. I was inspired to write strong heroines who could match each of these larger-than-life heroes.
13) The fourth book, "Body of Sin", will be released on 8/23/11.  How many books do you have planned for the series?

Eve: It would be lovely to have the opportunity to write many more books in the series. I have ideas for all three of Bryn’s brothers, for Asmodeus (a character introduced in the e-novella prequel to the series, SIN’S DAUGHTER), for a number of the Daughters of Aset who have popped up through the books. And of course, it would be fun to write a book for Dana.

14)  What can we expect as the series progresses?

Eve:  I always write strong heroines, lots of action and, of course, sexy, dark, tortured heroes ;-)

15)  If you could spend the day with one of your characters from the OTHERKIN series, who would you pick and why?

Eve:  I’d love to have a girls’ day with all my heroines. I think it would be fun to just hang out.

16)  Is there a character in the series that you are finding it a challenge to write about?

Eve: Lokan was challenging because of all he had suffered. How to write him in an authentic manner that would acknowledge and respect all he had been through?

17)  What are some qualities you feel all heroes and heroines should have?

Eve: A code of honor, even if it’s a little off-beat.

18)  Your book covers are amazing!  Who does your art?

Eve:  The Otherkin/Sins covers were created by Harlequin. The covers of my self-published digital titles (HIS DARK KISS and TRINITY BLUE) were created by my husband.

19)  What's next for Eve Silver?  What do you have planned in the upcoming months?

Eve:  I’m currently working on a couple of projects that have me very excited. They’re super secret right now, but I promise to post deets on my website very soon.

12)  Is there anything specific you would like to say to your readers while we have you here today?

Eve:  Thank you for reading my stories. You rock!
Eve, thank you so much for spending time with us today!  We’re looking forward to the release of "Body of Sin" and hope to have you back on Book Monster and LITERAL ADDICTION in the future.
Eve:  Thanks so much for having me. It’s been a blast.
