Meet the Real "Alpha" of the Pack - J.D. Tyler (aka Jo Davis)

Good afternoon Book Monsters and Literal Addicts, Book Monster Reviews is very pleased to welcome award-winning author J.D. Tyler (aka Jo Davis) to our sites today.

J.D. Tyler writes for New American Library under three pseudonyms (Jo Davis, J.D. Tyler and Jo Carlisle). Whether this is due to an overdose of ambition or a multiple personality affliction, she’ll never tell.  What we do know is that no matter the name she chooses to write under every book she writes is smokin' hot and leaves you craving more.  Let us give you some in depth detail about J.D.'s multiple pseudonyms and the amazing tales she tells.

When she isn’t writing, J.D.’s idea of a good time certainly isn’t cleaning house (sniff), bungee jumping (not in this lifetime, or the next), or camping (her idea of “roughing it” is a slow bellboy). She enjoys reading, being pampered like the diva she is, and spending time with her awesome family. She lives in Texas with her two teenagers.

J.D. Tyler, likes to write dark, sexy paranormal romance and has a huge thing for shifters, vampires, the Fae, and just about everything else that goes bump and grind in the night. She can’t get enough of those dangerous supernatural heroes, and the fun of creating her own was just too much temptation to resist… so she didn’t. J.D. doesn’t do self-denial.  J.D.'s newest creation is the Alpha Pack (whom we just had the pleasure of meeting).  The first book in the series PRIMAL LAW was released today and RT Book Reviews says:  "Tyler has set up an intriguing premise for her series, which promises plenty of action, treachery and scorchingly hot sex." And from NYT bestselling author Angela Knight: “Readers will fall head over heels for the Alpha Pack!” And finally, Night Owl Reviews, who chose PRIMAL LAW as a Reviewer Top Pick: “In a genre where the paranormal is intense, J.D. Tyler may just be a force to be reckoned with.”So let's read a little more about the book!

Founded by a group of former Navy SEALS, the Alpha Pack is a top-secret team of wolf shifters with Psy powers tasked with eliminating the most dangerous predators in the world. But the gift of their abilities comes at a price…
After a massacre decimates half his team and leaves him crippled, Jaxon Law must relearn how to fight—and battle the anger and guilt threatening to overwhelm him. But when he rescues a beautiful woman who reawakens his primal instincts, Jax is unprepared for the dangers that lie ahead.

On the run from her employer, brilliant lab assistant Kira Locke has evidence that leads the Alpha Pack on a hunt for someone targeting human civilians with Psy abilities. And as Jax and Kira circle both the killer and each other, Jax will have to decide if the deep connection he feels with Kira is worth breaking the ultimate shifter rule—because bonding with Kira means putting his abilities at risk, and they might be the only tools he has to keep his mate alive…

Sounds great right?!  Wait until you hear about all her other books.

Jo Davis is an award-winning, former Golden Heart finalist, multi-published author who developed a lucrative side business in the third grade writing and illustrating ten-page stories, then charging classmates twenty-five cents each to buy them, she discovered a calling that would last a lifetime.  She is an active member of the Romance Writers of America, has been a finalist in the Colorado Romance Writers Award of Excellence, a two-time finalist for the Australian Romance Readers Award, and has captured the HOLT Medallion Award of Merit .

Jo writes hot romantic suspense for Signet Eclipse. Her sexy series, The Firefighters of Station Five, launched in August 2008 with TRIAL BY FIRE amid rave reviews from Barbara Vey of Publisher’s Weekly, Romantic Times Book Reviews, Romance Junkies, and more. Michelle Buonfiglio of Romance B(u)y The Book named TRIAL BY FIRE  “YEAR’S BEST CONTEMPORARY” and “DEBUT OF THE YEAR” on her list of The Best Romance Reads of 2008. UNDER FIRE debuted in May 2009 on the Bookscan bestseller list and HIDDEN FIRE debuted in December 2009 on the Bookscan bestseller list and took #11 on the Ingram bestseller list.  LINE OF FIRE the fourth book in the series was released in May 2010 and was followed by the highly anticipated fifth book, and in the series RIDE THE FIRE which is the final book in the series.

Jo also writes scorching erotic suspense for NAL including the SHADO Agency series which currently has three books in the series I SPY A WICKED SIN, I SPY A NAUGHTY GAME and I SPY A DARK OBSESSION.  Jo also has her first thriller, WHEN ALEX WAS BAD,  which has also earned excellent reviews, including a 4 ½ Star Top Pick rating and is in development as a major motion picture with Mandalay Pictures. The book-to-film deal sold to Academy Award-winning producer Cathy Schulman, President of Mandalay Pictures, who took home the Best Picture Oscar for Crash in 2006.

Jo Carlisle’s erotic tales, whether edgy paranormal or realistic contemporary, carry her readers on a fast-paced ride of danger and forbidden passions. Jo invites you to leave your troubles behind, step into another world, and lose yourself in wicked pleasure for a while.  RAINA'S FANTASY was released in August 2006 and now Jo's working on a new series called the Lords Of Pleasure and the first book, TEMPTATION AT TWILIGHT, is to be released November 2011.

So now that we know all about the books, let's learn more about the incredible author behind them…..

Book Monster Reviews/LITERAL ADDICTION:  Hi J.D.!  We’re so very excited to have you today!  Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to drop by and spend some time with us!
J.D.: Thank you, ladies, so much for inviting me here today! I’m thrilled that you asked me to celebrate my book launch for PRIMAL LAW with your readers!
Book Monster Reviews/LITERAL ADDICTION:  We would like to start out getting to know you a little bit better?
Q1):   Can you tell us 3 things we don’t know about you, that we can't find out on the internet, in your bio, etc?
J.D.: These are just sort of fun and random, but here we go!
               1. Well, this might be out there, but I can recite the entire prologue to the Canterbury Tales in Old English, from memory. J
               2. I know a man who wrote several hit songs for Merle Haggard and traveled in his band when they were young and running wild.
               3. I am “sensitive” when it comes to ghosts and spirits, and I’ve experienced tons of weird things in my lifetime, including witnessing a full-bodied ghost of a woman in my old house where I grew up. Now, there’s at least one demon in my current house. Thank goodness he doesn’t cause trouble. Well, much. (And I’m not the only one who’s seen him!)
2)  We know you have wanted to write since you were a child.  What gave you the final push to decide to give up working as a teacher and try and become a published author?

J.D.: I’ve said this to folks before, but one day I woke up to get ready for work and I literally said, “Is this all there is? Is this what I’ve got to look forward to for the rest of my life?” I was so stressed at my teaching job, I was having chest pains. I knew it was time to do something new, and that meant following my dream of becoming a published author.
3)  How long did it take to get your first book published?

J.D.: I started writing in 2001 with the serious goal of getting published, and I joined Romance Writers of America and the Dallas Area Romance Authors to hone my craft. It took me almost 6 years to get published. I sold RAINA’S FANTASY to Ellora’s cave and I was thrilled!

4)  What traits do you feel are paramount for a hero?

J.D.: Honesty and integrity. A sense of humor. Loyalty. He cares for only the beauty inside, not just on the outside, and he’d die for his woman. My God, I just described my Boston terrier! (kidding)

5)  If you could list 3 things that never fail to make you smile, what would they be?

J.D.: Oh, first on my list would have to be my two teenagers! They both have an incredible sense of humor, and make me laugh. Baby animals make me smile, especially puppies and kittens. Hmm, last but not least… Ron White, comedian! What’s better than a good ‘ole Texas boy cracking naughty jokes when you’ve had a rough day and need a laugh? Pass the scotch, Ron…
6)  Do you have a writing routine?  Certain things you must have with you for the process to begin?
J.D.: I don’t have a routine, per se. I get up, grab coffee, and open my mind to my characters. They speak to me and tell me what to write. Some days they’re quiet, others they won’t shut up. That’s the way it works for me!

7)  What are some of your favorite hobbies and things you love to do when you're not writing?
J.D.: I love to read! My Kindle is addictive and I spend way too much money downloading books. I also love to go to the movies and have long lunches with friends.
8)  If you could have any super power, what would it be and why?

J.D.: Ooh, that’s a fun one! I’d love to be able to shapeshift into anything I wanted. Like, if I want to eavesdrop on someone—POOF! I’m a lamp! If I want to scare the shit out of someone who’s annoying me? POOF! I’m an ugly, eight-foot-tall demon with fangs the size of steak knives! That would be awesome.

9) What are some of your favorite television shows and movies?

J.D.: Right now, I’m loving Criminal Minds—Shemar Moore and Matthew Gray Gubler…YUM! I’m also getting into Supernatural with Jensen Ackles, and of course I adore TAPS Ghost Hunters with Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson. I’m totally addicted to that show! My favorite movie ever—As Good As It Gets with Jack Nicholson. There are SO many great quotable lines in that movie, and the characters are fantastic.
10)  Who are some of your favorite authors and what are some of the books you have in your TBR pile now?

J.D.: My TBR pile is brimming with books I can’t wait to read. Chief among them are the most recent ones of Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files series!! I’m SO addicted to Harry Dresden and reading about what trouble he’s gotten himself into this time, and immersing myself in his world. I just bought GHOST STORY and I can’t wait to read it!! Does Harry really die??? Tell me it’s not true!
11)  Out of all the books you have written, do you have a favorite amongst them or one that has sentimental meaning to you?

J.D.: TRIAL BY FIRE, my first Firefighters of Station Five book (as Jo Davis) is the most sentimental book for me. Lieutenant Howard Paxton, my gentle giant, will forever hold a special place in my heart.

12)  What is your favorite genre of romance to write and which is the most challenging for you?

J.D.: I love writing all of my genres for different reasons, but the most challenging is definitely paranormal romance. That’s because the world is so intricate with tons of details to remember. On the other hand, it’s such fun because I get to make all the rules pertaining to that world. Nobody can tell me, “Um, black panthers don’t really exist.” Because I’m like, “Um, neither do shifters, vampires, Fae princes, and gremlins!” So there.
Book Monster Reviews/ LITERAL ADDICTION:  O.K, now I'd like to ask some questions to get to know more about the ALPHA PACK series…

13)  Can you please tell us a little bit about the Alpha Pack Series and a little synopsis about the first book ("PRIMAL LAW") in the series?

J.D.:   Jaxon Law is a man struggling to overcome suffocating guilt and a terrible injury he received when his team was betrayed and ambushed. He’ll never forgive himself for falling for and trusting a lying, manipulative witch, or for the tragedy that resulted, and those aren’t mistakes he intends to repeat. But that’s before he rescues pretty Kira Locke from being killed by some very determined men who want back some incriminating samples she lifted from her employer—evidence that will lead the Pack to a sinister project that must be stopped at all costs. Jax is about to learn that he can’t guard his heart and protect his mate at the same time. Because what his wolf wants, he takes, with pleasure…

14)  There are seven (7) members of the "Alpha Pack".  Can you tell us a little bit about them and their abilities?

J.D.: Besides shifting, I worked hard to make each of them unique in other things they can do. I thought it would be cool if they had Psy powers as well, so I incorporated that into the series. Our readers can read Carla and Michelle’s interview with the guys to learn more about their gifts.
15)   Can you give us any detail into some of the things we can expect as the series progresses and how many books are planned for the series?

J.D.: This series will be ever-evolving and rich with main and secondary characters. Treachery abounds and the plots are fast-paced. Every single detail has a purpose down the line, maybe not for several books in the future, but each detail is important. If all goes well, the series could go on indefinitely, and eventually branch out into other worlds that are related.

16)  If you could spend the day with any one of your characters from any of the books you have written, who would it be and why?

J.D.: I’d like to spend the day with the entire Alpha Pack. I’d have them demonstrate all their abilities… and of course the fact that they’re naked when they shift back is a definite bonus!
17)  You have written some smokin' hot and very successful romantic suspense books.  What inspired you to start writing paranormal romance?

J.D.:  Thank you! Actually, I started my career writing paranormal, but then I sold the firefighter series to NAL and that was put on hold. Then last year, my publisher asked me to consider writing paranormal, perhaps a shifter series, and my answer was an excited, “Hell, yes!”
18)  What's next for J.D. Tyler and your other two pseudonyms?  What do you have planned in the upcoming months?
J.D.: Next up is a novella tentatively titled BLACK MAGIC (the title might change), and it will be a stand-alone story involving Kalen Black, the team’s newest member who’s a Sorcerer/panther shifter/Necromancer! Other Alpha Pack team members call him a cross between a rock star and a gunslinger. You’ll find out why in PRIMAL LAW. His novella will be released from Penguin eSpecials in March 2012, and will lead into SAVAGE AWAKENING (book 2), and Kalen’s own story, which will be book 3 of the series. And I’ll tell you right now, Kalen’s full novel, book 3, is going to be truly epic.

After Kalen’s novella is SAVAGE AWAKENING, which is Aric Savage’s story and will be released on April 3, 2012! Aric has been the most fun hero I’ve ever written because he’s such a snarky bastard. Of course, the prickly outside hides a heart as big as a continent. It will take a really special woman to make this sexy redhead accept his self-worth and be the hero everyone knows he is.
19)  Is there anything specific you would like to say to your readers?
J.D.: I very much hope you fall in love with my Alpha Pack heroes, and if you love their stories please drop me line! My email address is jd@jdtyler.com and I love to hear from readers! Also, go online and rate the books if you’re into the reader communities at Barnes & Noble, Amazon, Goodreads, etc.!
J.D., thank you so much for taking the time out of your busy schedule to answer our questions! We wish you the best of luck with the Alpha Pack series, and all of your future endeavors.  We would love to have you on BMR/LA again in November to help promote "TEMPTATION AT TWILIGHT" if you're free. J

J.D.: You bet I am! I’d love to come back and talk to you guys again! This has been loads of fun!
